Defensive prospects commit to Terps, Tigers

Maryland has pledges from two outstanding defensive prospects in back Kent Hicks of Culpeper-Culpeper County, Va., over Boston College, Tennessee, Virginia and Virginia Tech; and linebacker Chase Bullock of Durham-Northern, NC., over Clemson, Virginia, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Georgia Tech and South Carolina.

Penn State gained its 20th commitment in quarterback Paul Cianciolo of North Charleston-Fort Dorchester, SC., over interest from Clemson, South Carolina, Mississippi, Maryland, North Carolina and UConn. The Nittany Lions recently gained quarterback/defensive back Kevin Suhey of State College-Area, Pa.

Florida State has a firm pledge from receiver Carl Grimes of Detroit-DePorres, Mich., over Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Iowa, North Carolina, Georgia Tech and Iowa. Grimes had once decommitted from Michigan State.

LSU has a commitment from defensive back/receiver Chevis Jackson of Mobile-St. Pauls Episcopal, Ala., over Alabama, Clemson, Louisville and South Carolina.

Big Ten Verbal List
Michigan State added linebacker Eric Andino of Buffalo Grove, Ill., over Boston College, Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin; and punter John Goss of Scottsdale CC, Ariz.

Defensive back/running back Andre Butler of South Holland-Thornwood, Ill., committed to Northwestern over Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin.

Long considered headed to the Badgers, linebacker Nick Sutton of Detroit-Crockett, Mich., committed to Wisconsin over Iowa, Florida and Michigan State.

The Missouri Tigers gained offensive lineman Aaron Saunders of San Antontio-Jay, Tex., over Baylor, Kansas, Colorado and Purdue; and receiver Jerrill Humphrey of Ewing-Highland, Mo., over Iowa and Kansas State.

Iowa State picked up a pledge from running back Webster Patrick of Spring-Westfield, Tex., over offers from BYU and Utah.

Texas Tech added offensive lineman Josh Aleman of Sherman, Tex. The Red Raiders recently gained defensive back Dwayne Slay of Brunswick, Ga/Reedley CC, Cal., over interest from Tennessee, South Carolina, Missouri, Kansas State, Oregon and Kentucky. Four of Slay's teammates pledged to Tech in mid-October.

Baylor has pledged quarterback Dane King of Gonzales, Tex/Blinn CC, Tex., over interest in SMU, Kansas, Hawaii and Louisiana Tech. He passed for 2797 yards and 27 touchdowns during the 2003 season.

Arkansas gained offensive lineman Jonathan Luigs of Little Rock-Pulaski Academy, Ark., over interest from Nebraska, LSU, Memphis, Vanderbilt and Kansas State.

Defensive lineman/offensive lineman/tight end Ryan Tuggle of Bartlett, Ill., has chosen Northern Illinois over Northwestern, New Mexico and Eastern Michigan.

Tulsa has pledged defensive back Randy Duncan of Mesquite, Tex.

Washington added a pledge from defensive back Keauntea Bankhead of Seattle-Ballard, Wash., over Oregon, Oregon State, San Diego State and Washington State. The Huskies recently gained linebacker Rashaad Goodrum of Los Angeles Valley CC, Cal.

UCLA pledged offensive lineman Scott Glicksberg of San Jose-Leland, Cal.

Arizona State has a pledge from offensive lineman Leo Talavou of Fountain Valley, Cal., over Washington State, Oregon, USC, Hawaii, Arizona and San Diego State.

The BYU Cougars have pledges from quarterback Jason Beck of Oxnard-Hueneme, Cal/Ventura CC, Cal/College of the Canyons, Cal., over Iowa and Kansas State; offensive lineman Nick Longshore from College of the Canyons, Cal; receiver Michael Morris of Itawamba CC, Miss; and sophomore linebacker Aaron Wagner of Lethbridge, Alberta, who is transfering from Washington State.

Colorado State has pledges from quarterback/athlete Chauncey Duckett of Colorado Springs-Wasson, Colo; and defensive lineman Matt Rupp of Rancho Santa Margarita-Santa Margarita Catholic, Cal., over Fresno State, Nevada and Utah.

New Mexico pledged defensive back Jake Bowe of Albuquerque-LaCueva, NM. The Lobos recently gained running back Rodney Ferguson of Albuquerque-Manzano, NM., over New Mexico State.
