Michigan State keeps piling up defense

Michigan State has added defensive lineman Nii Adjei Oninku of Clayton-Northmont, Ohio, over Iowa, Pittsburgh and Wisconsin. The Spartans recently gained linebacker Eric Andino of Buffalo Grove, Ill., and punter John Goss of Scottsdale CC, Ariz.

Auburn pledged defensive/offensive lineman Greg Smith of Chattanooga-Tyner Academy, Tenn., over Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina and Middle Tennessee State.

Touted quarterback David Koral of Malibu-Pacific Palisades, Cal/Vanderbilt/Santa Monica CC, Cal/Florida State/Santa Monica CC, Cal., is near a decision between UCLA, BYU, Illinois, UNLV and Hawaii. He set state and national records at Palisades, including four 500-yard passing games as a senior. Koral had a 764-yard, seven-touchdown outing in a 48-30 win and threw for 4,002 yards and 44 touchdowns his final year. Sophomore quarterback Matt Moore of Valencia/Newhall-Hart, Cal., earlier announced he will transfer from UCLA after starting four games this season. He is considering Tennessee and San Diego State, among others.

Super Prospect quarterback Jordan Steffy of Leola-Conestoga Valley, Pa., is near a decision between Clemson, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Penn State and Michigan State.

Colorado has pledged linebacker Maurice Cantrell of Cedar Rapids-Washington, Ia., over Iowa State. The Buffs recently gained defensive back/receiver Reggie Foster of Long Beach-Millikan, Cal., over Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon State and Washington; and receiver/athlete Patrick Williams of DeSoto, Tex., over Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Utah.

Defensive back Bernard Hicks of Fresno-Edison, Cal., decommitted from the Cougars and is considering California.

The California Bears have a pledge from punter/kicker David Lonie of Australia/Ellsworth CC, Ia., over Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky and Texas A&M. The Bears recently gained offensive lineman Mike Tepper of Garden Grove-Pacifica, Cal., over Oregon, UNLV and Wyoming.
