Highly-regarded QB Patton selects Tigers

Top 150 quarterback Chase Patton of Columbia-Rock Bridge, Mo., has chosen the Missouri Tigers over Kansas State, Iowa, Tennessee, UCLA and Virginia.

The Tigers also added defensive back Quincy Butler of San Antonio-Roosevelt, Tex/Tyler CC, Tex., over Tennessee, Texas A&M, TCU, Iowa, Kansas and Syracuse, among others; defensive lineman Stryker Sulak of Rockdale, Tex; and linebacker Arthur Miller of Kirkwood, Mo.

The USC Trojans added a pledge from Top 150 receiver Michael Bumpus of Culver City, Cal., over Washington State, Arizona State, Washington, LSU, Oregon and Oregon State, among others. The Trojans recently gained defensive back Josh Pinkard of Oxnard-Hueneme, Cal., over Washington State, Arizona State, California, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Washington State.

Miami-Florida has a pledge from Top 150 linebacker Josh Johnson of Stone Mountain-Stephenson, Ga., over Florida, Tennessee, Georgia, South Carolina, Auburn and Florida State.

Top 150 running back Peyton Hillis of Conway, Ark., has chosen Arkansas over Oklahoma, Nebraska, Florida, Alabama and Tennessee, among many others. He rushed for 2631 yards and 29 touchdowns as a senior.

Big Ten Verbal List
Ohio State added a pledge from linebacker Brandon Smith of Eculid, Ohio, over West Virginia, Cincinnati and UConn.

The Iowa Hawkeyes have pledges from defensive back Walner Belleus of Immokalee, Fla/Dodge City CC, Kan., over Illinois, Arizona State and South Florida; and running back Shonn Green of Atco-Winslow Township, NJ., over Clemson, Syracuse, Rutgers, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

Illinois gained linebacker Sam Carson of Downers Grove-South, Ill., over Indiana, Michigan State, Louisville and Northwestern; and defensive lineman Jeff Sobol of Herculaneum, Mo.

Linebacker Jammar Crane of Garland, Tex., decommitted from Wisconsin and is considering Kansas, the Badgers, Colorado State and Oklahoma State.

Defensive lineman Nii Adjei Oninku of Clayton-Northmont, Ohio, who recently committed to Michigan State, is no longer a Spartan verbal and is considering Louisville and Kentucky. The Spartans recently added linebacker Dwayne Holmes of Detroit-Ford, Mich., who decommitted from Purdue.

Kansas State has a commitment from receiver Romunn Grigsby of Clayton-Northmont, Ohio, over Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

Kansas has commitments from defensive back Aqib Talib of Richardson-Berkner, Tex; linebacker Mozell Axson of Lakeland-Jenkins, Fla; and receiver Dexton Fields of Dallas-South Oak Cliff, Tex.

Texas A&M has a commitment from linebacker/running back Kedric Goins of Freeport-Brazosport, Tex., over Northwestern and Iowa State. Dustin Long, a Texas A&M junior quarterback from Port Neches-Groves, Tex., will transfer to Sam Houston State. Long started nine games in 2002 and passed for 2509 yards and 19 touchdowns. New coach Dennis Franchione replaced him in the starting lineup this season with sophomore Reggie McNeal and the Aggies finished with a 4-8 record. Long played in all 12 games during 2003, passing for 709 yards and four touchdowns. His only start came in the season finale against Texas.

Virginia Tech pledged its 4th prospect from Hargrave MA for Class 2004 in defensive back Brandon Flowers of Del Ray Beach, Fla. The Hokies recently gained receiver Justin Harper of Catawaba, NC/Hargrave MA, Va., over Tennessee, Virginia, North Carolina State and West Virginia.

Defensive back/receiver Darrelle Revis of Aliquippa, Pa., has chosen Pittsburgh.

West Virginia pledged receiver Brandon Barrett of Martinsburg-Senior, WVa., over Ohio State and Pittsburgh.

North Carolina State has defensive lineman John Bedics of Bethlehem-Catholic, Pa., over an offer from UConn.

Georgia Tech pledged defensive lineman A.J. Smith of Tampa-Jesuit, Fla; and receiver James Johnson of Winter Garden-West Orange, Fla.

SEC Verbal List
Defensive lineman Jeremy Lomax of Lovejoy, Ga., chose Georgia over Indiana, Louisville, North Carolina State, Tennessee and Virginia.

The Florida Gators pledged tight end/defensive lineman Markell Thompson of Whitefish Bay-Dominican, Wis/Southwest Mississippi CC, Miss., over Wisconsin. Among others were Clemson, Michigan State and Oregon State.

Tennessee has its 10th commitment in linebacker/defensive lineman DeMarcus Stevens of Knoxville-Fulton, Tenn., over Marshall and Middle Tennessee State.

Louisville has a pledge from receiver Elijah Daniel of Brundidge-Pike County, Ala., over Mississippi State and West Virginia. The Cardinals recently gained linebacker Gabe Wallace of Fort Campbell, Kty., who had earlier decommitted from Kentucky.

Tulane has pledges from defensive lineman Ryan Johnson of Dallas-Carter, Tex., over Arizona, Baylor, Kansas State and Oklahoma State; linebacker/defensive lineman Michael McCabe of Kentwood-Sumner, La; running back defensive lineman Adeboye Tuyo of Houston-Jersey Village, Tex; defensive lineman Julian Sams of Slidell-Northshore, La; and running back Matt Forte of Slidell, La. The Green Wave recently gained defensive back Billy Skinner of Arlington-Lamar, Tex.

Central Michigan pledged offensive lineman Mark Barbaglia of Princeton Junction/West Windsor-Plainsboro South, NJ.

Ohio has gained offensive lineman Scott Rouse of Cincinnati-Xt. Xavier, Ohio.

Miami-Ohio pledged running back/defensive back Robbie Wilson of Cincinnati-Cincinnati Hills Christian, Ohio.

Linebacker John Bacon of Lakewood, Colo., chose Oregon over Colorado State and Wyoming.

The UCLA Bruins gained offensive lineman Chris Joseph of San Ynez, Cal. The Bruins recently added offensive lineman Scott Glicksberg of San Jose-Leland, Cal.

Washington pledged athlete Dan Howell of Newhall-Hart, Cal., over Colorado State and Fresno State; and running back/linebacker Luke Kravitz of Olympia, Wash. The Huskies recently gained offensive/defensive lineman Javon O'Connor of Los Angeles-Senior, Cal.

The California Bears have a pledge from offensive lineman Norris Malele of Carson, Cal., over Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State and Washington. The Bears recently gained punter/kicker David Lonie of Australia/Ellsworth CC, Ia., over Ohio State, Michigan, Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky and Texas A&M; and offensive lineman Mike Tepper of Garden Grove-Pacifica, Cal., over Oregon, UNLV and Wyoming.

San Diego State pledged defensive lineman Brian Wilson of Lancaster-Paraclete, Cal., over interest from Nebraska and Fresno State; and offensive lineman Eric Rouser of Ventura-St. Bonaventure, Cal., over Washington, Oregon State, Arizona State and Arizona, among others. The Aztecs recently gained offensive lineman Chris Pino of Palomar CC, Cal., over Ohio State, Washington, Utah, Arizona and Arizona State; and receiver/defensive back DeMarco Sampson of Chula Vista-Castle Park, Cal., over San Jose State and Wyoming.

Colorado State has a pledge from defensive lineman Tommie Hill of Littleton-Arapahoe, Colo., over interest from Wyoming, Utah, Oregon and Nebraska. The Rams recently gained running back Kyle Bell of Keenesburg-Weld Central, Colo., over Wyoming. The state's all-time rusher gained 2715 yards as a senior.

Offensive lineman Chris Bowser of Aliso Viejo, Cal/Saddleback CC, Cal., picked UNLV over interest from Washington and Colorado.
