Force Hood's run leads NHRA qualifying

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. -- Ashley Force Hood topped Funny Car qualifying Friday in the United Association NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Force Hood had a 4.071-second run at 303.37 mph in her Ford Mustang.

Tony Schumacher, Allen Johnson and Craig Treble also led their divisions in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series event.

Schumacher, a three-time winner this year, led the Top Fuel field at 3.818 seconds and 314.46 mph, Johnson topped the Pro Stock cars at 6.607 and 208.23 in a Dodge Stratus, and Treble led the Pro Stock Motorcycles at 7.008 and 190.43 on a Suzuki.

Last year, Scott Kalitta was killed after his Funny Car burst into flames and crashed at the end of the track during the final round of qualifying. As a safety measure following Kalitta's death, the NHRA cut the length of Top Fuel and Funny Car races from the traditional quarter-mile to 1,000 feet -- a reduction of 320 feet.
