Columbus Crew SC Federico Higuain says "someone could die" if a club tried to change cities in his native Argentina.
Crew owner Anthony Precourt is exploring the possibility of moving his MLS team to Austin, Texas, after this season, sparking protests from the club's fans and a #SaveTheCrew campaign to keep the club in Ohio.
Higuain, 33, has played in Columbus for five and a half years since moving to MLS from Argentina in 2012.
He told ESPN FC at MLS's media day this weekend that the prospect of moving a club is hard to imagine in Argentina, though he understands relocation is a more common occurrence in the U.S.
"It's hard, it's hard," he said. "To me, it's very difficult to understand, because if this happened in Argentina, maybe people die. Someone could die, you know?
"Here, it's a different country, different culture. It happens in NBA, in baseball, I know, so it's part of American life, you know? You have to accept what may happen.
"If you ask me if I like it, it's hard to say yes. It's very hard to say yes... but I am a player."
"I really like to play for this club," he said. "I like the city. I like everything in Columbus."
