Juve just waiting for Di Vaio

MILAN, Italy -- Juventus is set to sign Italy striker Marco Di Vaio after agreeing to a deal with his club Parma.

A spokesman for Parma said that all that remained was for the 26-year-old Di Vaio to put his name formally to a contract.

Juventus midfielder Matteo Brighi will move to Parma on loan as part of the deal for the Italy international forward.

Juve has paid Parma 7 million euros to loan Di Vaio for this season and retain the right to buy him for a further 14 million euros for the 2003-2004 season, the Serie A side said on their official website.

Rome-born Di Vaio scored against Juventus in last week's Italian Supercup match, which Parma lost 2-1 in the Libyan city of Tripoli.

Di Vaio began his career with Lazio before moving to Verona, Bari and Salernitana.

He scored 20 goals last season for Parma and, although he narrowly missed out on a place in Italy's World Cup squad, he was included in Giovanni Trapattoni's side for the friendly against Slovenia earlier this month.

Brighi, who rejoined Juve after an impressive loan spell at Bologna last term, was given a debut for Italy in that defeat to the Slovenes.

Juventus said that Brighi had been loaned to Parma for two seasons on a co-ownership deal.

Parma now have just a short time to find a replacement for Di Vaio in attack with Verona's Romanian striker Adrian Mutu tipped as a likely option.
