Game set for March 29 in Seattle

[Associated Press]

CHICAGO -- The U.S. soccer team will play Asian champion Japan in an exhibition game at Seattle on March 29.

The Americans open their 2003 schedule on Jan. 18 against Canada at Fort Lauderdale, Fla., then play fifth-ranked Argentina at Miami on Feb. 8, and travel to Jamaica for a game on Feb. 12.

The game against Japan will be the first international soccer match at Seattle Seahawks Stadium. Earlier this year, the Americans beat Honduras 4-0 at Safeco Field.

The U.S. has played just one international game since a 1-0 loss to Germany in the World Cup quarterfinals, beating El Salvador 2-0 on Nov. 17 at Washington.

The Americans, who open camp Jan. 4 at Bradenton, Fla., are preparing for the FIFA Confederations Cup (June 18-29) and the CONCACAF Gold Cup (July 12-27), which is the championship of North and Central America and the Caribbean.
