Hellas claim Verona derby honours to boost survival hopes

Hellas claimed the spoils in the Verona derby with a precious 1-0 victory over Chievo to move to within a point of Serie A safety.
Antonio Caracciolo scored the only goal seven minutes after half-time as Hellas jumped above Crotone and to within one point of SPAL in 17th. Chievo had 59 per cent possession and nine shots to their rivals' seven but could not find the breakthrough.
Daniele Verde was the first to threaten for Hellas but his long-range effort flew just past the post in the 11th minute.
Chievo began to dominate as the first half wore on and, after Mattia Bani had headed wide, Lucas Castro saw his shot saved by Nicolas Andrade.
But in the 52nd minute Chievo found themselves behind. Verde swung in a corner and Caracciolo found space in the box to send his shot into the top corner.
Chievo pushed for an equaliser but chances were few and far between and Castro's effort, which flew over the bar, proved to be their last opportunity.
