Toney Douglas records nine 3s

March, 18, 2011

Toney Douglas had another great night for the New York Knicks on Thursday, earning more minutes than Chauncey Billups in the win over the Memphis Grizzlies. Billups actually had a good night too, finishing with 18 points and eight assists, but Douglas finished with 29 points including an amazing nine 3-pointers, and was clearly the fantasy star of the night for the Knicks.

Douglas has shown, by this point, that he belongs on fantasy rosters even though Billups is back in the lineup. He struggled in his first game coming off the bench, going 1-for-12 against the Indiana Pacers, but in the two games since then he's averaging 23 points in 30 minutes (including 6.5 3s). Considering he's averaging 1.1 steals per game in just under 24 minutes per game on the season, Douglas is definitely worth owning in all fantasy formats even though he's coming off the bench.

Looking Back

Tony Allen continues to get less-than-ideal minutes for the Grizzlies, but reminded everyone why he's worth playing with three steals in just 23 minutes of playing time. Until he's unproductive for a few games in a row, he's worth keeping in your lineup. … Kris Humphries is averaging 16.6 rebounds over his past five games after grabbing another 16 for the New Jersey Nets on Thursday night against the Chicago Bulls. Almost as impressive are the 2.0 blocks per game he's averaging over that stretch; clearly, he's becoming a legitimately great fantasy player as the year goes on.

Looking Ahead

Instead of Taj Gibson getting big minutes for the Bulls on Thursday with Carlos Boozer out of the lineup, Omer Asik got big minutes and took advantage, finishing with 11 points, 16 rebounds and two blocks against the Nets. It's a good bet that he'll have another decent night against the Pacers on Friday. … If you're in need of blocks, you'll also want to get Golden State Warriors' rookie Ekpe Udoh in your lineup Friday; he had two blocks in just 19 minutes on Wednesday, and with Andris Biedrins out of the lineup with an ankle sprain, Udoh should be in line for major minutes against the Phoenix Suns. … Luis Scola is questionable for the Houston Rockets on Friday against the Boston Celtics with a sprained knee, and Patrick Patterson has been good enough of late (1.0 blocks and 1.4 steals over his past five games) that he's worth playing if Scola ends up being held out of the game. … The Portland Trail Blazers had their win over the Cleveland Cavaliers in hand by the end of the first quarter, but that doesn't take away from Rudy Fernandez's 13 points, five assists and three steals off the bench. He's not an elite fantasy player, but he's good enough in limited minutes (especially if you need 3s and steals) that he belongs in your lineup most nights.
