France to investigate alleged racial bias
PARIS -- France's sports minister wants the country's soccer leaders to "shed light" on a report that accuses national coach Laurent Blanc and top executives of agreeing to a quota for black and Arab players in training programs.
Thursday's report by the website Mediapart says Blanc and senior members of the French soccer federation secretly approved proposals to limit blacks and Arabs in national training academies to 30 percent once they reach 12 to 13 years old.
Mediapart says it learned of the plan by "internal sources" at the federation who are "scandalized" by the proposal.
The federation denies such action. Sports minister Chantal Jouanno says she "takes note" of that but wants the federation to "shed light very quickly" on the allegations.
