Reports: Freddy Adu to sign with Union
The Philadelphia Union are preparing to announce the signing of Freddy Adu, according to reports Thursday by FOXSoccer.com and the Philadelphia Daily News.
Adu, 22, started his career in MLS with DC United as a 14-year-old in 2004. He later played with Real Salt Lake before leaving the league in 2007 to sign with Portugal's Benfica. He has bounced around Europe on loan since then, but played well for the United States during the CONCACAF Gold Cup this summer.
The signing would reunite Adu and Union coach Peter Nowak, who previously instructed Adu at DC United and on the 2008 U.S. Olympic team.
Adu will not be joining the Union as a designated player, FOXSoccer.com reported.
A news conference is set for noon Friday, according to the reports.
