Clijsters, Malisse shut out Slovakia

PERTH, Australia -- Kim Clijsters and Xavier Malisse won
their singles matches and the mixed doubles to lead Belgium to a
3-0 victory over Slovakia at the Hopman Cup on Monday.

France beat Russia 2-1 in the eight-nation event, with Amelie
Mauresmo and Fabrice Santoro winning mixed doubles 6-3, 6-4 for the
clinching point.

Mauresmo, ranked No. 4 in the world, beat Anastasia Myskina 6-2,
7-6 (2), but 2000 U.S. Open champion Marat Safin beat Santoro 6-3,
6-3. Safin was playing for the first time after a nine-month layoff
because of a wrist injury.

Clijsters, No. 2 in the world, beat Daniela Hantuchova 6-1, 6-2
in 40 minutes, and Malisse beat Karol Kucera 6-2, 1-6, 6-1.

The defending champion Americans, with James Blake and Lindsay
Davenport, play the Czech Republic on Tuesday.
