Maleeva wins opener at last tournament of career

ZURICH, Switzerland -- Bulgaria's Magdalena Maleeva beat
Russia's Anna Chakvetadze 6-1, 6-1 Monday in the opening round of
the Zurich Open.

The 30-year-old Maleeva, who has said this tournament will be
her last, will face sixth-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland or
wild card Gisela Dulko of Argentina in the second round.

Former French Open champion Anastasia Myskina, seeded seventh,
advanced when Fed Cup teammate Vera Zvonareva retired while
trailing 6-2, 3-0.

Myskina will play Silvia Farina Elia of Italy in the second
round. Farina Elia also advanced when her opponent, Elena
Likhovtseva of Russia, retired. Farina Elia was leading 2-6, 6-4,
The four top seeds -- Lindsay Davenport, Amelie Mauresmo, Mary
Pierce and Elena Dementieva -- all have a bye into the second round.
