Hewitt, Murray, Blake win in Adelaide

ADELAIDE, Australia -- Top-seeded Lleyton Hewitt beat Jan Hernych 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 Tuesday in the first round of the Australian men's hard-court tennis championships.

A sluggish Hewitt dropped his serve twice in the first set and was broken by Hernych while serving for the match at 5-3. But he did the same to the Czech in the following game to seal the win.

Britain's Andy Murray had a slow start Tuesday before beating
Italian qualifier Paolo Lorenzi 3-6, 6-0, 6-2. He will face Tomas
Berdych of the Czech Republic in the second round.

In other matches Tuesday, fifth-seeded American James Blake beat Alberto Martin of Spain 6-3, 6-3 and Australian wild card Mark
Philippoussis, a former U.S. Open finalist, advanced with a 6-4,
3-6, 6-4 win over American Vince Spadea.

It was Philippoussis' first singles match at Memorial Drive
since losing twice to Sweden in the 2004 Davis Cup that started an
18-month rankings slide.
