Ljubicic beats Gonzalez, defends Vienna title

VIENNA, Austria -- Defending champion Ivan Ljubicic defeated
fifth-seeded Fernando Gonzalez of Chile 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 to win the
BA-CA Tennis Trophy on Sunday.

The top-seeded Croatian, who won his third ATP title this
season, held serve throughout the tournament for the second
straight year.

Ljubicic, who allowed only one point on serve in the first set,
broke to lead 3-1 with his strong groundstrokes. He also won the
second set with only one break of serve.

Ahead 3-2 in the third set, Gonzalez wasted four break points --
the only ones Ljubicic had allowed in the entire tournament.
Ljubicic broke Gonzalez to lead 6-5 and closed it out on his second
match point.

Ljubicic beat Gonzalez 6-3, 7-5 in last year's quarterfinals.

"It feels like at home," said Ljubicic, who had 17 aces at
Wiener Stadthalle. "The court, the balls, the ambiance -- they are
just perfect for me. It seems that I can't lose in Vienna."

Ljubicic trails the eighth-place David Nalbandian by 75 points
for a final spot at the Masters Cup next month in Shanghai.

"I wanted to win here, but it was equally important for me to
collect some extra points in the race for the Masters Cup,"
Ljubicic said.
