Rubin's struggles continue, Sucha advances in Bell

QUEBEC CITY -- Martina Sucha of Slovakia defeated Chanda
Rubin of the United States 6-4, 6-2 in a first-round match of
former champions at the Bell Challenge on Monday.

injuries to her left knee in 2004. She's won only one match in
seven tournaments this year.

In other matches, sixth-seeded Shenay Perry of the United States
beat Melinda Czink of Hungary 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, and eighth-seeded Olga
Poutchkova of Russia eliminated wild card Valerie Tetreault of
Canada 6-0, 6-2.

Laura Granville of the United States paid back Jelena Kostanic
of Croatia 6-4, 6-4 for a defeat in Hobart, Australia, at the start
of the year, and Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada beat Alina Jidkova of
Russia 6-4, 6-2.
