Bondarenko, Gimelstob lose in co-ed Kremlin Cup

MOSCOW -- Marion Bartoli defeated Alona Bondarenko 6-2, 7-5
and Philipp Kohlschreiber downed Justin Gimelstob 6-1, 6-3 Monday
at the co-ed Kremlin Cup.

Patty Schnyder advanced with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Emilie Loit and
Florent Serra rallied to defeat Potito Starace 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 on
indoor carpet at the dual WTA and ATP event.

The 11th-ranked Bartoli easily won the first set, then won two
straight games after a 5-5 tie in the second.

"I did not play my best tennis today by far, but I managed to
win," Bartoli said. "In the second set, Alona played very good."

Bartoli will play wild card Vera Dushevina, who beat Eleni Daniilidou 7-5, 6-1.

The 12th-ranked Schnyder won five straight games in the second
set to close it out. Schnyder will play either Alicia Molik or
Elena Dementieva.

The four top seeds in the women's draw -- Svetlana Kuznetsova,
Maria Sharapova, Anna Chakvetadze and Serena Williams -- had a
first-round bye.
