DUESSELDORF, Germany -- The United States has been eliminated from World Team Cup tennis after failing to advance out of round-robin play.
Sweden will play host Germany for a place in Saturday's final. Germany beat France 3-0 to remain in contention.
Eight teams are split into two groups and three rounds are played as a round robin, with each tie consisting of two singles and a doubles played over two days.
The Red Group comprises France, Germany, Sweden and the United States, and the Blue Group is made up of Argentina, Italy, Russia and Serbia.
In the Blue group, Russia was eliminated after losing to Serbia 3-0, and Argentina beat Italy 3-0.
Serbia has two victories from the first two rounds, with Italy and Argentina standing at 1-1. Italy will face Serbia and Argentina will play Russia in the last of the round-robin ties to determine who will advance to the final.
