Clijsters takes match in 53 minutes

BRISBANE, Australia -- U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters won her opening match in the Brisbane International, beating Italy's Tathiana Garbin 6-2, 6-1 on Sunday.

Clijsters, the top-seeded woman in the joint WTA-ATP tournament at Queensland Tennis Centre, will face Australia's Alicia Molik in the second round.

"It was just a nice feeling to be out there again," the Belgian star said. "I am really happy that I'm here because it really makes the transition to Melbourne (site of the Australian Open) a bit easier."

Molik beat Russia's Ekaterina Makarova 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

On Monday, Justine Henin, the former No. 1 making a return to official tournament play after 20 months in retirement, will face second-seeded Nadia Petrova.
