Live analysis from Dallas

Final Four

NCAAW

There are no open practices this year at the Women's Final Four the day before the semifinals. NCAA spokesperson said that decision was a combination of factors: teams wanting more time at the WFF venue for "real" practices before semis, the NCAA's thought that not as many fans would attend open practices on a weekday as they would on Saturday, and having less time between the end of regionals and WFF's media day (today.) The WFF moved this year back to a Friday-Sunday format, which it last used in 2002. It had been Sunday-Tuesday since then. Also, last several years, WBCA All-American team was announced at arena between Saturday's open-practice sessions so fans could see that. This year, WBCA team will be announced Saturday afternoon at Tourney Town.

final four coaches on women coaching men

South Carolina

NCAAW

A bit earlier Dawn Staley was asked what it's going to take for a woman to become a head coach in men's game or NBA. Here is her response: It's all about opportunity. Basketball is basketball. It doesn't have a gender. it has a mind. it has an approach. It has a willingness, and given the opportunity women can excel in this game. As you can see, Becky Hammon is doing a great job. You need more people like coach [Gregg] Popovich to give people the opportunity to learn and to grow, to embrace it. I don't think he sees gender; he sees someone who has a great basketball mind, who is tireless. Once you're given that opportunity, you see great things come out of it.
