Tag Ribary (12:59 PM)
Hey everyone. Thanks for stopping by. Let's get started.
Saagar (San Jose, CA)
Hey Tag. Being a former NFL Scout, what is the biggest thing you have to look at with a player?
Tag Ribary (1:00 PM)
Honestly it's the film. How does he perform against the level of competition he is competing against. Too much is made of the shorts and t-shirts workouts that occur during the offseason in my opinion.
Richard (Baton Rouge)
Would the Saints be wasting their 1st round pick if they selected a RB?? Why not select on the defensive side of the ball??
Tag Ribary (1:04 PM)
I don't believe so. Adding a more powerful element to their running game seems to make sense to me. They will continue to throw the ball well with Drew Brees and company but if they can run the ball more consistently they will have better success controlling the clock and managing the 4th quarter of games.
Bryce (Calgary, AB)
Why do teams even look at WR in the first round of the draft? Unless there is a guy like Randy Moss or Calvin Johnson there I would roll the dice later. I would guess 95% turn out to be classified busts and there are way more who get drafted later that pan out. You can get a bust at any postion I guess but the O and D lines seem to be a bit safer then those flashy WR's. The money is to huge for those odds for me. What are your thoughts?
Tag Ribary (1:08 PM)
There is a long list of failures at every position. Taking a WR early is a gamble but if you are convinced he can fill a role and you have enough talent around to help him succeed, then I can see it paying off. The matter of who is throwing him the ball is big and so is the role you have envisioned for him in his first season.
Are you sold on Campbell as QB of the Redskins? Obviously Zorn isn't, do they make a move in the draft or just wait until Shanahan is coach and let him make the decision?
Tag Ribary (1:11 PM)
From a distance I think it may be too early to tell if he has reached his maximum potential. But, I'm not around him every day to see how he reacts with his teammates and different situations. If they don't think he has "it" then they should be aggressive to go after the guy they want becuase it is the most important position on the team and toughest to fill.
Hey Tag...do you think the Browns move Edwards and if so what do you see them doing in the first round (with 2 picks hopefully)?
Tag Ribary (1:13 PM)
I'm having trouble with the getting rid of Edwards scenario due to their current depth at the WR position and limited playmakers for a young QB to grow with.
I think the Vikes should target Pat White. You could line him up at QB or WR, and do some wildcat stuff. Imagine the headaches him and AP would cause for opposing defenses...Thoughts
Tag Ribary (1:15 PM)
I see White as a gamble, particularly if your talking real early. He could pay big dividends but I guess I'm a little more conservative and RT or a more proven player at the WR position would be safer.
Hey, hows it going? Do you see the browns drafting Sanchez at 5, or are they just trying to bait a team like the skins to trade up if Sanchez is there?
Tag Ribary (1:19 PM)
I'm going to be real interested to see where Sanchez actually is taken. Certain teams are very high on him but I get the feeling several teams (that are drafting high) are hoping someone tries to move up into their slot so they can acquire more picks and fill several needs.
Jessie (WC Pa.)
Hi Tag! How far would the Eagles have to move up to land K.Moreno?
Tag Ribary (1:24 PM)
I've seen a few mocks where he could be available when they pick. We'll have to wait and see. If they can get him, look out. It will be fun to watch.
TAG, why would a team looking to draft a WR in the first round not take a sure thing and trade for Boldin or Edwards? Would the cap ramifications really be worse than a failed gamble?
Tag Ribary (1:27 PM)
Hey Aaron. It depends on their cap situation and whether they think they can get an appropriate deal done that works with their roster. I agree with you that a proven player like Boldin is a safer way to go but when you add up the compensation (trading draft picks) and the money involved it may not make sense for some teams.
Sean (TR NJ)
Hi Tag thanks for the time. The Dolphins by most mock drafts are believed to take a WR in the first, but shouldn't they target a CB or defense in general before a WR? Your thoughts?
Tag Ribary (1:31 PM)
I'm not sold on a WR for them in the 1st. They could go WR or get some more help for their defense. Adding another CB or some pass rush help for the future also makes some sense to me. The reality is, it will all depend on who is available when they get to their pick - it may not be a WR that they love.
Tag, chances Peppers is moved on draft day?
Tag Ribary (1:36 PM)
I think they are slim, but if someone makes them an offer they can't refuse it will be very interesting to see where he goes and what the Panthers get in return.
Ryan, N.E Pats Country
Tag, all recent mock drafts have the PATS going defense with their first pick. What are the chances of a draft day move for offense? I know they are well stacked however didn't Mel Kiper think they might go for Moreno if avail? What are the chances of that happening?
Tag Ribary (1:41 PM)
Hey Ryan. I have the Pats looking toward defensive help. The RB by committee works well enough for them and they do a good job of finding the right players to get by at the RB position. We'll have to see if Mel is right.
Andy (Ann Arbor)
Is Peppers worth a #1 pick? He's getting old, he takes plays off as often as he plays hard, and is a liability against the run.
Tag Ribary (1:43 PM)
Hey Andy, I'm not sure I agree with you on the age, liability vs the run or laziness stuff. He is worth a first round pick in my opinion.
Sean (TR NJ)
Is there anything more than gossip out there that the Dolphins are looking to trade Ronnie Brown? If so, and they do deal him, how important does selecting a RB become? Possibly #1 priority?
Tag Ribary (1:45 PM)
There is a lot of misinformation floating around these days. This sounds like gossip to me but I don't have any confirmation either way for you, sorry.
If they only need the 1st for Peppers, I would love for the Eagles to make that move, then try and trade up in the second for Donald Brown.
hank (Steeler fan in texas)
Hey Tag, Any truth to roscoe Parish becoming a Steeler? I like it. 3rd wr and returner!!
Tag Ribary (1:50 PM)
He would be a nice addition for Pittsburgh if that were to happen. Buffalo has made some interesting moves this year. Right now anything is possible with Buffalo.
Sean (TR NJ)
Thanks anyway Tag appreciate it.
Ken (Richmond, VA)
Tag, why would Washington be willing to trade two first rounders to move up and get Sanchez, a guy who's own college coach says isn't ready for the NFL?
Tag Ribary (1:53 PM)
The only way I can try to explain it is if they are convinced he would make the biggest impact for them. That's a real aggressive scenario to me and one that could set them back for a while if it doesn't work out.
Tyler ( Minnesota )
Hey Tag! I'm so sick of everyone wanting a bigtime play maker in Sota! Don't you think we need to start with protecting our QB that basicly don't stand a chance no matter how good he is? My dream pick would be someone like M.Oher or E.Britton. What are the chances that one of those guys will be there at twentytwo especially since the Eagles won't be going OT now? Am I wrong for wanting an OT to be able to properly evaluate our QB fairly?
Tag Ribary (1:56 PM)
Tyler, I'm with you on the addressing the OL issue or even some inside help on defense with an aging DT and suspension looming. Remain solid up front on both sides of the ball.
Sean (TR NJ)
What are the biggest concerns for the Bengals in your eyes? Is it still O-Line to keep Palmer healthy?
Tag Ribary (1:58 PM)
I've been thinking OL help for them since the season ended. After losing Andrews it seems like a #1 priority.
Why could'nt the Williams wall sit out for the 4 pre-season games every one saves face and gets what they want, and we can get a court back to worrying about something that matters.
Tag Ribary (2:00 PM)
That wouldn't be a punishment, but a reward. The suspension also has to do with losing regular season game checks.
Tag Ribary (2:01 PM)
I'm out of time. Thanks for joining in. Good luck to everyone this weekend!
