Tag Ribary (1:00 PM)
Hello everybody. We have one hour to talk some ball, so let's get started.
Which draft pick for Dallas will have an instant impact?
Tag Ribary (1:01 PM)
I don't know about instant impact but I would think Jason Williams would be able to help out in sub group personnel or at least special teams fairly quickly.
Are the changes to the coaching staff, and no Marvin really going to effect the Colts that much?
Tag Ribary (1:03 PM)
The Colts might try to run the ball more this year. After struggling in that area last year it would make sense for them to emphasize the run game and take some pressure off Manning and the offensive line. As far as the coaching situation goes, they will miss Dungy but I'm glad to see Mudd and Moore stick around as consultants.
Who is the best option at qb for the Broncs, Orton?
Tag Ribary (1:06 PM)
I'm leaning toward Orton. Simms can be productive but I like him as a backup more than the starter. I have a hard time with left handed QB's because it makes the receivers work a little harder to adjust to the ball. If they aren't used to the opposite spin it can take some getting used to.
Can Chad 'Ochocinco' back up his talk this off season, or is he past the point of max productivity in his career?
Tag Ribary (1:08 PM)
Chad can still be productive. He's probably the happiest guy on the team to see Carson Palmer back.
I feel like i should be asking you a Matt Stafford question, but Kellen Clemens, why do the Jets keep him, it kinda seems like he was in their future plans, but now Chads gone, and they have Snachez.....?
Tag Ribary (1:10 PM)
I don't think they feel Clemens has reached his full potential. He's still young enough to show signs of improvement and if he can be a solid backup when Sanchez takes over they don't have to worry about finding another QB. I also think Brian Schottenheimer likes some things about him, still.
are the bucs higher on Josh Freeman or Josh Johnson? and do you see either of them starting this season?
Tag Ribary (1:11 PM)
They better be higher on Freeman to take him that high.
Mel (Noth Dakota)
How much longer can the Rams rely on Bulger?
Tag Ribary (1:14 PM)
If they can get some better line play up front he still has a future in St Louis. He hasn't really had the type of protection that a lot of other QB's in the league see each week.
larry (fort worth)
can the texans make the playoffs?
Tag Ribary (1:16 PM)
Larry the Texans are on the verge of making it but they will need some help from the other teams in the division. If they can get more consistent play on the defensive side of the ball they are one of the teams I like as a little bit of a surprise this year.
Tag, just for the record Larry Fitz said that there wasn't much difference between a left handed vs a right handed spiral.
Tag Ribary (1:19 PM)
Consider the source. He's one of the most sure handed players in the game. Trust me, I've seen a lot of players struggle with drops as they try to get used to it initially.
do you see Pacman jones going back to the Cowboys?
Tag Ribary (1:20 PM)
I have a hard time visualizing that one. They gave him a chance and did all they could to make it work last year.
Do you think that Stewart and Williams will be okay with sharing the load this year? Fox loves his power backs, is it just a matter of time before Stewart gets the nod?
Tag Ribary (1:24 PM)
Clay I don't get the feeling that Stewart and Williams have a hard time with splitting carries. At least not right now. Stewart could be relied on more often due to his run style but it would be smart to utilize both while you have them. I'm curious to see if Williams will sign an enxtension whenever that time comes.
Kevin Cobb (Washington D.C.)
Hey Tag, what would you say is your favorite experience from working as a scout for the Washington Redskins? HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!
Tag Ribary (1:25 PM)
Game day was awesome.
Michael (Chicago, IL)
I keep reading that the Jets are interested in Plaxico. That makes sense. What does not make sense is why Plaxico would be interested in the Jets. They have no proven QB. They are in a tough division. Too many questions. Where does he wind up? I say the Bears.
Tag Ribary (1:29 PM)
Michael I've heard from a lot of Bear fans about their desire to land Plaxico and he would be productive in Chicago. New York makes sense because he is already established there, but it will usually come down to money - after the legal issue is settled.
Is it that crazy to think the Bills O-line can gel and become formidable before the season starts?
Tag Ribary (1:32 PM)
It will take some time for them to get completely comfortable with one another. There are so many looks that a defense can throw at you that I suspect they will keep it fairly simple (as far as protections) initially.
Tag, is the new setup different on your side? Just curious since it seems to be a tad slower than usual on this side.
Tag Ribary (1:36 PM)
It looks different from this end but seems to be going fine as far as I can tell.
Alex (New York)
Huh, what do you know, a guy that lives in Chicago thinks that Plax should end up on the Bears.
Tag Ribary (1:37 PM)
Surprising isn't it. I can't say I blame him for wanting a quality receiver.
DeAngelo had 15 TD's last year, I don't think Fox will be in a hurry to shift the load to Stewart.
Tag Ribary (1:39 PM)
I'm with you Sean. If it isn't broke...don't fix it.
I will just happen to be driving through Canton on Aug. 9. Is it worth my while to stop and attend the Hall of Fame game? Or would it be okay to just watch it in my hotel room?
Tag Ribary (1:40 PM)
You should visit the Hall of Fame for sure and if you have time, check out the game. At least the first half of it anyway.
What can we expect from Matt Ryan
Tag Ribary (1:43 PM)
He'll have another good year and he'll love having Tony Gonzalez to throw to. That was a great pickup by the Falcons.
i just dont understand the rex grossman situation. yes, hes been up and down. But hes got a lot of talent, and when he came back from his benching he limited his mistakes. Im not even talking about a starting position, how can he not even get a backup gig, yet Fitzpatrick, Boller, etc are scooped up?
Tag Ribary (1:46 PM)
Someone will pick him up eventually. I assume he and JP Losman will not be out of work for long.
stephen (keller tx) [via mobile]
Should r. Bush b moved to a slot wr in your opinion?
Tag Ribary (1:48 PM)
Nope. They should keep moving him around to take full advantage of his versatility.
Brett (Puget Sound)
Is Aaron Curry as a rookie going to have a bigger impact this season for the Hawks than Julien Peterson would if he was playing for us instead?
Tag Ribary (1:49 PM)
I don't think Seattle fans will see much of a dropoff and the future of the position is now solidified for a long time.
Tag, I read recently that Eric Mangini is considered one of the bottom 5 coaches in the NFL. First, do you think that is an accurate assessment, and secondly, do you think that the person doing the rating might simply not appreciate his sometimes prickly demeanor?
Tag Ribary (1:52 PM)
The person making the rating shouldn't care about his demeanor. Wins and losses speak for themselves. It's a bottom line business so right now they are probably going off what they've seen up to this point....whoever that person is.
if vick returns this year what team will he play for?
Tag Ribary (1:53 PM)
I'd say the Raiders since they have only have 6 on the roster right now, ha.
so i have been a vikes fan my whole life and this brett farve thing is out of control!!!!! do u think that the vikes should have waited this long to force an answer?
Tag Ribary (1:56 PM)
It's getting a little late but it's tough to gauge where a guy is with medical evaluations, rehab, etc.
SteveFitz (Cicero, IL)
Prediction time Tag. Who wins rookie of the year?
Tag Ribary (1:58 PM)
How about Chris Wells?
Tag Ribary (2:00 PM)
I guess we're out of time. I hope everyone has a good week and let's do it again next Tuesday.
