Skip Bayless (9:58 AM)
I'll be here at 4 p.m. ET to take your questions!
Skip Bayless (4:05 PM)
Good afternoon, boys and girls. Skip here. Fire away. By the way, Andre Iguodola has called me a "diabolical hater" on Twitter and he will take me on tomorrow on 1st and 10. That makes me a DH in the AL or the NL. He also says I look like a thundercat. What's a thundercat? Iguodola in big trouble tomorrow.
Justin (Princeton, NJ)
Skip, if you weren't covering sports for a living, what would you be doing?
Skip Bayless (4:07 PM)
I would be watching sports. Talking about sports. Dreaming about sports. I guess I would also be broke. Honestly, I've always wanted to be a doctor, but I think I would have come to hate it after a while.
John (Aspen, CO)
Why do you suck at life? You hate pretty much everything and everyone. The only thing that gets you out of bed in the morning is knowing that you can go on TV and criticize some hard working athlete. You start pointless arguments with your opponents on First Take just to argue. Do us all a favor and retire. You're Welcome
Skip Bayless (4:10 PM)
No, the truth is, John, is that I just tell the truth and you can't stand to hear it. I've said for 2 years that everyone has prematurely crowned LeBron, and I've been right. I've said for 5 years that Terrell Owens is Team Obliterator, and I've been right 3 times with 3 teams. If you don't want the truth, turn me off.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
Mr. Bayless: Which list is longer - players you like or players you take issue with?
Skip Bayless (4:13 PM)
Good question. Don't have time to start making lists. But nobody seems to remember when I applaud players -- Kobe, Duncan, Ginobili, Tony Parker, Chris Paul, Donovan McNabb, Tom Brady, Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Josh Beckett, Jason Bay ... I could go on and on. But nobody cares.
what about the goaltending in game 2 of nba finals, was it or wasn't it,if ball is above rim, you can not have hand in cylinder, correct
Skip Bayless (4:17 PM)
Gasol touched the rim, but didn't shake it or affect the shot, which barely touched the rim. My point on that play is that CLee unfairly villified as all-time goat, especially by Stan Van Gundy, because the more I look at that shot, it was nearly impossible to make, going full speed after catching the pass nearly even with the backboard. He had almost no angle because the pass was a little late and long. From that angle at that speed, it was 9 on a difficulty scale of 10. Give him a break!
Skip, I've got to give you a ton of credit for picking the Magic to beat the Cavs when no one else did. I was wondering, if Kobe wins the whole thing this year, where do you rank him among the best basketball players of all time?
Skip Bayless (4:20 PM)
Thanks, Rick. If he wins, I elevate Kobe to No. 7 on my all-time list, behind MJ, Russell, Magic, Bird, Shaq, Kareem, and ahead of Oscar, Wilt, West, Dr. J
I dont like the Lebron shaking hands issue. It turned me off towards him. Its alright to shake hands when you win but not when you lose. Please give break!
Skip Bayless (4:27 PM)
I'm with you, Jay, but I was not surprised by this behavior. LeBron hasn't treated the game or his opponents with much respect over the last couple of months. All the picture-taking skits, the flexing after dunks, the posing after buzzer beaters, the hotdogging, the frontrunning -- all beneath him and nothing that Jordan ever would have thought about doing. LeBron needed a dose of humility and got it.
Let it be known: Bayless said Urlacher was a great pick before Urlacher was Urlacher.Just had to give you props.
Skip Bayless (4:30 PM)
Thanks, George. I'm usually pretty good on NFL and NBA draft. (But must admit, I like Leaf slightly over Manning, because so many scouts and coaches I know did.) But in Chicago, I also liked Lamar Odom over Elton Brand with No. 1 overall, and Krause was afraid of Odom's character, which was legit doubt. But Odom's making a case for MVP of Finals.
LeBron is the same as Jordan in that both were prematurely crowned...... and this year Bron almost won a title with a team half as talented as Scottie Pippen's left thumb..... dont you think you should give Bron Jordan's seven years?
Skip Bayless (4:32 PM)
Fair enough. But trust me, LeBron does not have Jordan's leadership intangibles or his killer will. LeBron will never, ever eclipse Jordan. He's bigger and stronger, that's all.
Keep up the Twittering Skip! Who has been your favorite guest(celebrity or athlete) debater on 1st and 10?
Skip Bayless (4:35 PM)
I will, Travis, at RealSkipBayless. Especially during games and before/after shows. My favorite has been Lil Wayne -- really knows sports and very deep. But I also loved sparring with Spike Lee and LL CoolJ and Justin Tuck. Shaq has been challenged and says he'll take me on.
LeBron could've taken Pippen to school in 1-on-1 when he was 16
Skip Bayless (4:36 PM)
OK, even more a case for MJ.
J.B. (Dunmore, PA)
There's something to be said for a guy who speaks his mind and doesn't 'drink the punch.' For that, Mr. Bayless, you should be commended.
Skip Bayless (4:38 PM)
Much appreciated, J.B. I should at least get that much credit.
Jason (Spokane, WA)
Any chance of you writing a fitness book? or at least having ESPN list your work out regime.
Skip Bayless (4:41 PM)
Not sure such a good idea, Jason. Wouldn't recommend what I do. I'm addicted, but at least it's a positive addiction. Haven't missed a day or cardio exercise (running, biking, eliptical) since Game 2 of opening round of '98 playoffs, when I was so sick I barely made Michael Jordan vs. Charlotte Hornets at United Center.
Is it depressing that a healthy Celtics team or Spurs team would obliterate either one of these teams in the finals?
Skip Bayless (4:42 PM)
Wouldn't call it depressing, and wouldn't use obliterate, but this is a true statement.
Is it me or is this a down year in the MLB? Teams just don't seem nearly as good as they have been in years past, a Mannyless Dodgers team is the best in baseball? As you would say "Are you kidding me?!"
Skip Bayless (4:44 PM)
Intriguing thought ... though I believe RSox, NYY and even Rays (if get healthy) are a little better than Dodgers, who just keep amazing me with the way they keep winning.
Using the Houston series as a barometer...I think even if the Lakers lose tonight...it's vital that the team does not get blown out and that Kobe does not go overboard and burn himself out for Game 4. If they avoid that I think that bodes well for L.A. (terrible i know as a Lakers fan to bypass tonight's game, but hey, I am fully aware Orlando shoots lights out at home and the refs will favor the home team and dicate how the game is played). Your thoughts?
Skip Bayless (4:48 PM)
Kobe will go for kill tonight, knowing he doesn't have a tough 7-game series left in his body, which has been through way too much high level bball the last year-plus with no offseason. Kobe was gassed at end of G2 the other night, but he'll max out going for 3-0 tonight. Yet even at 3-0, wouldn't shock me if Magic slowly climbed back into series. Bizarrely resilient team.
Skip, have you ever personally met Lebron. Are you cordial?
Skip Bayless (4:50 PM)
I have never met him, but often hear from reporters around him that he gets a kick out of me, and he has invited me to sit courtside at one of his home games, which I'd be glad to do, with bodyguards.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
With this new chat format, is there a way we can block the picture of you from the top of the page?
Skip Bayless (4:51 PM)
I don't know, but if I were you, I would try to block it.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
Which would you prefer - play basketball like LeBron or golf like Tiger?
Skip Bayless (4:55 PM)
No contest. Golf like last Sunday's Tiger. Then again, in two previous tournaments, Quail Ridge and Players, Tiger looked lost on Sunday and rumors swirled that he would fire Hank Haney. So I was shocked at how well he drove ball at Memorial. Best ball-striking tournament in 5-plus years under Haney. Most shocking turnaround for a golfer I've ever witnessed. Yet Tiger did this at another legend's tournament on another course he loves, Arnie's Bay Hill, and turned right around and stunk up 17 and 18 at Masters on Sunday. So I won't pick him to win Open.
Skip, love ya on 1st and 10. How far can the Vikes go this year with a healthy Favre at QB? I think a deep playoff run, with that D and Peterson. The only thing holding them back would be coaching. And btw, your comments about Childress not being the man are dead on! You state how 80% of Vikes fan feel!
Skip Bayless (4:58 PM)
I was all for Favre going to Jets for a last hurrah last year, but I thought he hit the wall mentally and physically in December, and not just because of a minor arm injury. I'm just not sure he has another good year in him. I think Gus Frerotte would be a better option right now, but Vikes aren't interested. So I suppose Favre would be better than Tarvaris or Sage, but I still think Vikes would lose in first round.
Hey Skip...it sometimes seems like you say things on 1st and 10 just to be outlandish. Do you always believe EVERYTHING that actually comes out of your mouth? Or do you sometimes contradict your opponent just for good TV fodder?
Skip Bayless (5:00 PM)
Trust me, Heath, I just say what's in my heart. You can call it crazy, but I never, ever just spew something out for the "good" of the show. I believe everything I say 1000 per cent.
CRam (Los Angeles)
Your prediction for game 3 tonight?
Skip Bayless (5:05 PM)
I'm going Magic, close. But I dearly hope that Stan Van Genius scraps his Jameer experiment and goes back to his Boston/Cleveland rotation of Rafer starting and Anthony Johnson backing up. Playing Jameer starter minutes in G1 really hurt the psyche and momentum of this team. SVG tried to prove he could outcoach the Zenmaster on the national stage. Dance with who brung you, Stan. That's it for me. Love the questions and the banter. I take on Iguodala tomorrow at 10 Eastern, and I'll be tweeting tonight at RealSkipBayless. God bless.
