Jeremy Green (12:05 PM)
Hey everyone... new time spot for me at least through the preseason... thanks for joining me.
Browns Fans (Cleveland, OH)
JG, should we be encouraged by the win on Saturday or just chalk it up to the fact we played the Lions?
Jeremy Green (12:07 PM)
I would be encouraged by any win if I were a team trying to come out of the doldrums like the Lions and Browns... Ultimately winning in the preseason means nothing... Detroit was 4-0 last year but it is always nice to play well and Cleveland did across the board.
Al (Wausau, WI)
Jeremy, do most NFL teams play their starters for most of the third preseason game? How much do the starters play during the last preseason game?
Jeremy Green (12:09 PM)
Depends on the team but most teams will play certain starters for the 1st half... if the offense or defensive starters struggle there is a chance they can play into the 3rd quarter. The QB dictates the offense, especially the offensive line. If the QB needs work then the 1st team OL has to stay in the game.
Stanton to me looks like the best Detroit QB. Will this preseason run get him a back up spot somewhere else? He is to good to be a 3rd stringer.
Jeremy Green (12:11 PM)
He also gets the advantage of playing vs. guys that are not going to be on a roster. It is not unusual for 3rd QB's to look good in the preseason... you are playing vs. guys that you would not see as the #1 QB in a regular season game.
Who has the best O-line in the league?
Jeremy Green (12:13 PM)
I think the best two offensive lines in the NFL reside in the NFC East... I think the Giants and Eagles have the two best offensive lines in the NFL.
Jeff (NY, NY)
Really looking forward to watching Sanchez tonight - what are your expectations for him?
Jeremy Green (12:15 PM)
This is one of the few preseason games I am looking forward to as well. Washington could not move the ball at all last week so for Sanchez I think moving the chains early is important. I think they would like him to make good decisions... even if the ball is not on target you want to make sure it goes to the right spot. Every play is not going to be successful but the Jets staff wants to make sure the right reads are made in the right situations.
Am I wrong to think Eric Mangini is simply a terrible coach? Sure he knows football, but he seems to have a massive ego and terrible relationship skills. Not a good combo if you ask me. The way he is handling the QB situation there is bush-league. What are your thoughts on Mangini and the QB situation in Cleveland?
Jeremy Green (12:18 PM)
Never been a Mangini fan... He was terrible in New York and he was not the right hire in Cleveland. However, it is not uncommon for a new Head COach to come in and stir it up but putting every players job on the line. Now he has created a QB controversy that should not even exist. If Quinn struggles next week then they may just have to go with Anderson when this position should have been Quinn's to start
I am fed up with crabtree. Should the 49ers start lowering their offer now, since his production this season is likely to go down the longer he stays out? I wouldn't have a problem if they just don't sign him and use the money elsewhere
Jeremy Green (12:20 PM)
I am all set with Crabtree as well but I don't think you penalize him by lowering the offer. You keep a fair market deal on the table and if he does not take it then I guess he goes back into the draft... His rookie season is a waste but you hope the future would still be bright if they got him into camp.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
Thoughts on how the Eagles will use Vick during the season?
Jeremy Green (12:22 PM)
I would make him the backup QB... As the 3rd you can't play him.. as the backup he can be used in some form of the Wildcat or whatever the Eagles want to call it. He is a great athlete who can make plays with the ball in his hands so they should make sure they use him and get him touches from week to week.
While I am annoyed at Crabtree for the way he is handling his situation, I am siding WITH Andre Smith in his situation. I keep reading the Bengals want to pay him less than the same slot got last year, and LESS than the guy picked behind him, who was a WR no less and not a guy protecting Palmer for 10 years. What are the Bengals thinking?!
Jeremy Green (12:25 PM)
I agree with you Rachel. The Bengals unlike the 49ers are in the wrong because they are not offering a fair market deal. They did what they said they would no longer do and that is take a player with a little bit of character baggage and now they want to treat him as such with his deal. They took him now they have to pay him as if he does not have that character baggage... Mr Brown doesn't get it.
Cosmo (Anytown, USA)
Isn't it curious that McNabb lobbied to get Vick on the Eagles, yet he threw a fit when they drafted Kolb (a less likely replacement) in the second round a few years ago? Any insight here? Seems strange to me.
Jeremy Green (12:26 PM)
I do not think Vick is a threat as a pure QB... He thought Kolb would be and he isn't. Even though Vick is in a Eagles uniform he is not a threat to take over as the starter which is what McNabb and Eagles fans THOUGHT Kevin Kolb would be.
JG, I'm not sure what to think about the Broncos. What do you think in the two preseason games so far?
Jeremy Green (12:28 PM)
I am pretty much like you Travis... not sure what to think with this team. They are mediocre on offense and defense... they are a middle of the road 8-8 type team as many are in the NFL where the difference between 10-6 and 6-10 becomes QB play. I thought Orton made some strides in the 2nd preseason game... if he does not play well they are a 6-10 football team.
the McNabb Vick to McNabb Kolb situation is completely different, that was couple of years ago when it made no sense to draft a QB high when there were needs elsewhere (WR), They now have some good weapons the offense and McNabb know's his career is winding down, Vick can definately help the eagles win a super bowl so at this point i really think Mcnabb just wants to win. I really don't see how people compare the 2 situations
Its funny to hear the Bengals dont want bad character guys. They resign Henry, sign Tank Johnson, and draft Bernard Scott. Its too bad Mike Tyson couldnt provide some football value for them.
just a comment on mcnabb and his reaction to the kolb pick. i think one of the reasons he was ticked off was that the eagles did not use their first round pick (for the second year in a row, i think) to improve the team. they needed some offensive skill players, and passed on any of them.
Will the Colts OL be able to protect Peyton this year?
Eric Mangini (Cleveland, OH)
Just great. Anderson plays horribly in the first game and great in the second and Quinn was just the opposite. What do I do know JG?
Ryan (San Diego)
Is this a new chat slot or are we gonna be getting the Friday 4 PM back when the season officially kicks off?
Jeremy Green (12:33 PM)
I might be back on Friday's... ya never know.
Favre looked rusty and he really could of used reps with his receivers in camp. How long will it take him to get comfortable with his receivers or could he still struggle early in the season?
Jeremy Green (12:35 PM)
I think he struggles early... He has not had an off-season unless you consider throwing at a high school an off-season. He understands the system but he is not on page with the players in the system.
The 49ers run game is looking pretty good. They rushed for 275 yards without their best runner, Frank Gore, playing much. Can a above average run game compensate for average/below-average QB play?
Jeremy Green (12:38 PM)
It can in the preseason and we have seen it done in the regular season maybe 3-5 years ago. In this day and age though it is a passing league and regardless of how well you run the ball it is tough to overcome marginal QB play. Teams show more in the regular season as well with fronts and looks so it is not going to be as easy to run the ball in the regular season without quality QB play.
Flacco and the young o-line now have a year of experience under their belts. Any chance we see a resurgance from Todd Heap if he's not kept in to block as much this year?
Jeremy Green (12:41 PM)
I think Heap does reemerge as a pass threat because of better OL play. Heap at times might be the 3rd target last season and Flacco did not always go through this entire progression or even if Heap was the first look he might not realize that even if covered he is a guy that can make a play so I think both QB and TE will be on the same page this season.
The Packers first team offense in 2 preseason games has scored 35 points, and the first team defense has shutout both opponents. Are the Packers going to surprise some people this year?
Jeremy Green (12:43 PM)
I don't think I would say surprise people... They were projected as a 10 win team last year at least by me and they lost a ton of close games that could have gone either way. The Packers have 10-win talent so if they win the North and make the playoffs it would not surprise me.
Ryan Deese (Fennimore wisconsin)
Do you think the cubs will make the playoffs and if they do do you think they will improve from last year?
Jeremy Green (12:44 PM)
I hate the Cubs right now... and I am a Cubs fan... tough to watch.
Ryan (San Diego)
Are you on the LT comeback train or one who thinks he can no longer be an elite back in the NFL?
Jeremy Green (12:45 PM)
Hey Ryan. I never really jumped off the train. This team had injuries up front last year and never got in sync. I think he is still one of the top 5 backs in the NFL
ollie (gulf coast)
if the saints continue to improve the running game an there defense can they win it all?
Jeremy Green (12:47 PM)
I think they are a real dark horse right now in the NFC. I have to wait to give my predictions... sorry Green Nation but they are in my NFC mix to be in Miami. The offense is one of the best in the NFL and the Sharper signing was huge because they finally have a guy in the back end that can get this defense lined up.
After Friday night you have to sit Stafford right?
Jeremy Green (12:47 PM)
Thought all along that asking him to start for an 0-16 team is too much to ask. He did not play well but I still think the future is bright.
Has it reached the point where unsigned rookies won't be making an impact this season?
Jeremy Green (12:50 PM)
I think every position is different. I think Andre Smith can still come in and have success as his job is to protect the QB regardless of what is called. As for say Crabtree? Way too far behind right now to have a major impact in my opinion. The WR spot is the toughest other then QB to develop at the NFL level.
We hate you as well. We don't know who is more overrated. You, Us, ND, or the Cowboys.
Jeremy Green (12:50 PM)
ALL but ME are overrated
How would you rate the QB's in the NFC North?
Jeremy Green (12:52 PM)
Tough call here because some have better weapons so if each guy had the same weapons and at this point in their careers i would go... Cutler, Rodgers, Favre, Stafford
Joey (Rutland VT)
will the Giants b as good w/ out Plaxico??
Jeremy Green (12:53 PM)
Come on Joey... you are a Giants fan... you saw the end of last season... of course not! They were not very good without him. Say what you want about him off the field but he made them a better team on the field.
JG, the Buzzmaster seemed a bit too excited over the return of your chat. Does he owe you a favor or something? Glad you're back man!
Jeremy Green (12:55 PM)
He is probably more excited then me... Just kidding... glad to back
Is Kyle Orton definitely the guy now in Denver or will it still come down to the Cutler Bowl on Sunday?
Jeremy Green (12:56 PM)
He is the guy... he has to be the guy and if he isn't then they might as well just fire Josh McDainels now!
Jeremy Green (12:58 PM)
Monday at Noon? Not as exciting as Friday at 4, but we will work with it for now... thanks Green Nation... see you back here next Monday at 12:00 PM EST.... have a good one... JG
