Chris Low (1:00 PM)
Anybody ready for a chat?
Who do you think will be in the SEC championship game and who wins?
Chris Low (1:02 PM)
Alabama and Florida have clearly separated themselves at this point, and I think Alabama is the best team in the league right now. So if they played right now, I'd go with Bama
What are your thoughts about Tebow staying in the game? Was it Urban trying to run up the scrow or stats for Tebow and the Heismen? Thanks
Chris Low (1:04 PM)
I don't think Meyer was trying to run up the score in this case. I'd say Tebow was probably going to come out after that possession. It's a tough call. But given the fact that Tebow was already ill and the Gators were up four scores late in the third quarter, I would have already had him out of the game.
demitri (the real USC)
eric norwood or eric berry?????? and why
Chris Low (1:06 PM)
Eric Norwood. Nobody in the league has had a greater impact on his team to this point than Norwood. He can beat you rushing the passer, beat you making a play in the passing game and returning an interception and beat you in special teams. He also partially blocked a punt against Ole Miss. If he were a basketball player, the rim would look like the Pacific Ocean right now. He really has it going on.
Urban better get ready next year because other teams are going to start running up the score against him. He doesn't care of about this players getting hurt...Just leave Tebow in there and run up the score. His time for embrassement will come after Tebow leaves. What do you think?
Chris Low (1:08 PM)
Not buying that for a minute. Meyer and Tebow are extremely close. Meyer was as shaken as anybody to see Tebow take a shot like that and lying on the field. Now you can argue if Tebow should have been in the game at that point, but Meyer would never do anything to purposely put his players in harm's way.
Hey Chris. Love the blog. I've got to hear your take on the battle thats been simmering for two years now between GA and AL fans. AJ or Julio?
Chris Low (1:10 PM)
I would have taken Julio last year. I'd take A.J. right now. The Bulldogs would probably be 1-3 right now without A.J. He's bigger this year, just as fast and doesn't drop anything.
Chad (Las Vegas)
I know LSU hasn't looked pretty but I bet UGA, Ole Miss, Penn ST, USC, ect woudl take their record if it meant looking ugly in doing so.
Chris Low (1:12 PM)
No doubt. LSU has found a way to win, but the competition is about to get a lot tougher. The Tigers have to run the ball better. They're also giving up too many third-down conversions.
Jarrell Harris will be reinstated after six games. Will he make a big difference on defense?
Chris Low (1:14 PM)
With Hightower out, I'd say Harris would get every chance to play once he gets back.
who wins alabama vs georgia
Chris Low (1:14 PM)
Alabama. I'd take Bama against any team in the SEC right now.
Do the Razorbacks bounce back from a poor performance against the tide and beat Texas A
Chris Low (1:16 PM)
Boy they need to. I didn't like some of the body language and some of the things I heard out of the Arkansas camp after that loss to Alabama. Confidence is a problem at this point, and the only way to get that back is to win. The Hogs' schedule doesn't get any easier, either.
Hey Chris, It's been a long long 17 years since my Tide have been in the National Title game...do I stop waiting this year? I'm growing grey hair here....(PS Someone asked Heather D if Alabama and VT could be in a NC game together...she said yes but no comment on who would win...your thoughts?)
Chris Low (1:18 PM)
Alabama still has a long way to go to get there. But, yes, I could see a scenario where the two meet up again. Virginia Tech's defense is very good. For the Hokies to climb into position, though, they're going to need somebody to knock off Texas.
Who do you like this weekend in the big games, LSU @ UGA and Auburn @ Tenn?
Chris Low (1:19 PM)
I like Georgia over LSU and Auburn over Tennessee.
How do you think Auburn's spread offense will fair against Eric Berry and Monte Kiffin's defense this weekend? Prediction for the game?
Chris Low (1:21 PM)
Should be a great chess match. Monte Kiffin has done a terrific job with this defense, and you knew he would. Auburn is so balanced. The difference for the Tigers has been the way Chris Todd has played. When they haven't been able to run it, they've beaten teams passing.
Hunter (Knoxville, Tn)
Thank you Chris...by picking against us, you have virtually assured the Vols of beating Auburn this wknd!
Chris Low (1:21 PM)
I wouldn't give myself that much credit.
Wildcat Charles (Lexington)
Hey Chris, my Cats were atrocious in the first quarter, almost looked shell shocked, then settled down. Do you see improvement for the Bama game?
Chris Low (1:23 PM)
At least Kentucky settled down and played better after that awful first quarter. Even in the Louisville game, though, the Cats made too many mistakes. Alabama's defense is even better than Florida's, which is probably more bad news for Kentucky.
I am a very happy Bama fan and am excited about what could lay in store for us, but I'm also a Vandy grad....what's wrong with the Dores' offense this year?
Chris Low (1:24 PM)
No offense. Vanderbilt popped a few big plays in the win over Rice, but moving the ball and scoring points against SEC defenses is going to be chore all season long.
I know Jevan Snead didn't look very comfortable verse South Carolina, but don't you think Houston Nutt did a poor job of coaching? He didn't give McCluster the ball till the second half and faked a FG which could have only had them down 3 on the last drive....
Chris Low (1:26 PM)
Yes, it wasn't the finest hour for the Ole Miss offensive staff. McCluster only had four touches through three quarters. When they did get him involved in the fourth quarter, he looked like he was operating at a different speed than everybody else. I know the South Carolina coaches were surprised they didn't see more of him in the first three quarters. Keep in mind that Ole Miss only had 22 offensive snaps in the first half. South Carolina played keepaway.
if auburn beats tenn do you think they will make the top 25
Chris Low (1:26 PM)
To me, Auburn already deserves to be in the Top 25.
I have heard multiple analysts say over the past few days that Bama is probably a better team than Florida right now. Why then is Florida still holding on to 54 first place votes?
Chris Low (1:28 PM)
Because the Gators started there and haven't lost. Their only "close" game was Tennessee and that was a 10-point win. The good thing with Alabama and Florida is that it's probably going to play out on the field ... one way or the other.
Dru (Denver, CO)
What is it going to take for Julio to have just a break out game? He finally got a TD Saturday. What is going on? He's to big of a play maker to not be getting the ball in his hands.
Chris Low (1:29 PM)
Julio is getting a lot of attention from defenses, which is a big reason you're seeing so many other players make big plays for Tide. This is a much more diverse offense than a year ago, and Nick Saban likes it that way. Julio will get his. I'm not sure he's been 100 percent this season, either.
So how vulnerable is Florida right now to an upset?
Chris Low (1:32 PM)
The Gators are off this week, which is great timing. Go back and look at Urban Meyer's record when he has more than a week to prepare for a team. The biggest problem is a downfield passing game that really hasn't been there. Tebow has carried it a ton, too. So his health will be key. That said, I still think the Gators win at LSU whether he plays or not.
Ted Roof (Auburn)
Chris, what to you think will be the key for my defense in keeping Tennessee at bay? We're only 8th in the SEC in total defense.
Chris Low (1:33 PM)
Ted, you've got to keep Montario Hardesty from hurting you on first down and get Jonathan Crompton in a lot of obvious passing situations. Your defense has done a pretty good job of forcing turnovers to this point, and Crompton has thrown eight interceptions in four games.
Chris, Brown kept McCoy in game until middle of 3rd with score 50-7 against UTEP, Stoops usually had Bradford in games late last year even with 40-50 point leads. Don't see how anyone can blame Urban for something other premier coaches/programs do likewise. Particularly with all the fallout from the UT game, Urban needed to make a statement to quite the critics. Thoughts?
Chris Low (1:34 PM)
Again, my biggest beef with Tebow still being in the game at that point was that he was already sick coming into the game. You're up four scores and have a backup in Brantley who's more than capable.
How was Zook able to win 8 games at Florida? How was he able to win more than 2 games in that league? Is he getting worse strategically or is what we're seeing from the Illini indicative of who he is?
Chris Low (1:35 PM)
Zook recruited very well at Florida, and that state is brimming with great football players.
Do you think that Chris Todd has gotten the attention that he deserves so far this season? He's 6th in the nation in QB rating, 11 passing TD's and only 1 INT so far, and it seems that no one outside the SEC knows of him. Perhaps it's better for AU that way?
Chris Low (1:36 PM)
Chris Todd is my Comeback Player of the Year in the SEC at this point and would be strong candidate for those honors nationally.
What team should bama be most worried about?
Chris Low (1:37 PM)
I still think that game against Ole Miss in Oxford is going to be a tough one to win despite how bad the Rebels looked at South Carolina.
Cory (Gainesville Florida)
What is causing Garcia and the Gamecocks from scoring in the red zone, and what do they need to do to improve in the red zone?
Chris Low (1:38 PM)
South Carolina's running game hasn't been very consistent. That's one reason, and go back and look at some of the silly penalties the Gamecocks have had in the red zone.
Joel (Athens, GA)
You like UGA against LSU this weekend, what do you think UGA needs to do to win that game?
Chris Low (1:40 PM)
The No. 1 thing is not to turn the ball over as much as the Bulldogs have in their first four games. It's amazing they're 3-1 when you consider they've turned it over three times in every game.
Rich (Olive Branch, MS)
Hey Chris, another Auburn question. Whats the injury update on Kodi Burns and Onterrio Mccalebb?
Chris Low (1:42 PM)
McCalebb turned his ankle, but says he's going to play. He wasn't limping Sunday after the game.
Did the AP voters knock ole miss so far down because they exposed them for the hacks they are?
Chris Low (1:43 PM)
How would you not knock Ole Miss down after that performance last Thursday? The Rebels will get their chances to make amends.
Joel (Athens, GA)
Do you know anything about the severity of Tebow's concussion, and is he going to play against LSU in two weeks. I know they have held NFL players out for 4 weeks with concussions?
Chris Low (1:44 PM)
There are so many varying degrees of concussions. It's hard to say at this point. The main thing is that he won't have any contact until he's cleared by the doctors.
A.J. Green vs Patrick Peterson this week. Good individual match up. Who ya got?
Chris Low (1:45 PM)
You're right, just a great matchup. Peterson is a bigger cornerback and very athletic. Green has taken his game to another level. Nobody goes up and gets it the way he does. Can't wait to watch those two go at it. I'd say say they both will win a few battles.
How big of an affect is Hightower's injury?
Chris Low (1:47 PM)
It sure doesn't help. I felt he was the second best player on Alabama's defense and could do so many things. But with the way Saban has recruited, if anybody can weather that kind of blow, it's the Tide. Courtney Upshaw will get a chance to show what he can do.
Do you think Meyer is demanding too much from Tebow on offense right now and who do you see stepping up to take some pressure off of him?
Chris Low (1:49 PM)
I don't know that he's demanding too much. That's just the way Florida's offense is rolling right now, and Tebow is the kind of guy who's going to do whatever he needs to do to get the Gators in the end zone. That's never going to change. But, yes, I do think there's probably too much on his shoulders right now. Sort of reminds me of 2007.
Who do you like in the MSU vs GT game this weekend? Since the Auburn game State has held Vandy and LSU to 67 rushing yards combined. LSU only had 30 yrds on 31 carries.
Chris Low (1:51 PM)
I want to see how emotionally scarred Mississipp State is from that crushing loss to LSU. Georgia Tech's option offense is so hard to prepare for, but you've got to hand it to Carl Torbush and that 'D' for stepping up the last two weeks after getting shredded by Auburn.
Chris, do you see any problems with the rankings? UGA is 3-1 and USC lost to a team that is unranked and has only won 2-14 in it's last 16. OU lost to a team that lost to a team that is unranked. Miami should have dropped further! Etc Etc
Chris Low (1:52 PM)
Too much emphasis is placed on where a team starts in the preseason poll.
Given the inconsistent performances by Ole Miss, how do you see their season going from this point forward?
Chris Low (1:54 PM)
The first thing Ole Miss has to do this weekend is play with some confidence on offense against Vanderbilt and play up to its talent. I'm not even sure Ole Miss has played a 'B' game yet. Get a little momentum going heading into that home game with Alabama. You win that game, and the rest of the season looks a lot different.
With a win over Auburn would Tennessee finally get some positive recognition?
Chris Low (1:55 PM)
I thought the Vols got a lot of good pub nationally for the way they played at the Swamp.
Joel (Athens, GA)
Where are you traveling to this weekend Chris?
Chris Low (1:55 PM)
Traveling your way to see the Dogs and the Tigers.
I disagree with your assessment about Auburn beating UT. Curious to how you think it will happen. Thanks.
Chris Low (1:56 PM)
I don't think Tennessee will be able to score enough to win, and Auburn has shown to this point that it's going to score points against everybody.
Chris - you're rebuilding an SEC team from scratch; what current SEC coach do you hire to do the job?
Chris Low (1:59 PM)
Great question. I'd go with Saban. Here's why: He's a relentless recruiter, a proven developer of talent and is absolutely unwavering in how he wants to go about doing things. Win or lose early, he's not going to change. Case in point: His first year at Bama when the Tide went 6-6 in the regular season.
What's your thoughts on the comments of Petrino after the game? Did he throw his players under the bus?
Chris Low (2:00 PM)
Don't know if he threw them under the bus, but it wasn't the kind of thing you hear from a coach every day publicly. It will be interesting to see which way the Hogs go from here.
Big Vols fan here. I think the pressure of playing away from home for the first time in Neyland along with Monte's D will be too much for Auburn. Earning Kiffin his first big win. You don't seem to think it can happen. Do you not see a chance?
Chris Low (2:02 PM)
Sure, I see a chance. If the Vols play the way they did at the Swamp, I think they will win. But there are also those two performances against UCLA and Ohio to consider. I just don't have a lot of faith in the Tennessee offense in games like this.
Chris Low (2:04 PM)
OK, that's a wrap. Thanks for some really good questions this week. We find out a lot more about LSU this weekend and also get a gauge on whether Auburn is for real in the Tigers' first road game. Take care and play nice.
