Chris Low (12:02 PM)
No more waiting. The game is here.
Who gets you vote for SEC COY?
Chris Low (12:04 PM)
I'm leaning hard to Nick Saban at this point. To go 12-0 for a second straight year despite having to re-tool his offensive line and going with a first-year starter at QB sort of sets him apart in my mind.
Chris, After you saw how the Gators are going now! And you are still stuborn to change your mind and pick the Gators. You will be eating a big CROW in Atlanta. Your thoughts?
Chris Low (12:06 PM)
I may be indeed eating crow. Anybody who says they have a beat on this game is telling a whopper. These teams are so close. But in my defense, I've been pretty hot this year when it comes to picking SEC games.
Matt (Baton Rouge)
Les Miles handled the ending of the Arkansas game 100% better than the Ole Miss game. Should LSU fans still be worried about Miles coaching abilities or was Ole Miss only a fluke?
Chris Low (12:07 PM)
Kudos to Miles and the Tigers for coming back from a terrible end-of-game situation against Ole Miss and working the clock to perfection in taking down Arkansas in overtime.
Which game benefited its respective team the most before entering the SEC championship game this weekend, Florida's schlacking of FSU or Alabama's close call with Auburn
Chris Low (12:12 PM)
The Gators were able to cruise in the second half, which helps. But I think the fact that McElroy and the Tide had pull off a late-game drive to win can only help. The extra day off should also held the Tide.
VolHokie (Richmond, VA)
Chris, is this the first week you've had 2 wrong picks in your predictions? And do you still get a limo for Atlanta?
Chris Low (12:14 PM)
First time in a while, but you still have to give me credit for getting the South Carolina, Tennessee and LSU games all right. We're negotiating on the limo.
Watching Tim Tebow's final bow in The Swamp reassured me that an NFL team would be crazy not to give him a chance to play QB. The kid will work his butt off, provide leadership, and positively impact his team before even taking a snap. Yes, he'll need to be molded, but I don't doubt he'd eventually be successful. I would love for my team (Buffalo) to take him. Where do you think he goes in the draft?
Chris Low (12:16 PM)
I think some team will take him in the first two rounds. And you're right, they will have to mold what they do offensively to his strengths. Tebow, too, will have to improve his mechanics in throwing the ball. I wouldn't bet against him.
Wow. Alabama has to come back against Auburn. Arkansas gets a go-ahead late drive, then LSU comes back and wins in overtime. Tennessee tops Kentucky in overtime. Florida, Georgia and South Carolina dominate ACC rivals. Did we just witness the most thrilling weekend in SEC football history?
Chris Low (12:17 PM)
I don't know about history, but it certainly was the best weekend of the season. Don't forget about Mississippi State pulling out a can of you know what against Ole Miss.
What was the deal with Mark Ingram Friday? I know he got an injury but he was completely ineffective before that. Do you think Auburn gave Charlie Strong a blueprint on shuttng down the running game or do you think Ingram will bounce back?
Chris Low (12:20 PM)
Ingram suffered a hip pointer late in the game. Those are extremely painful injuries. Nick Saban said on Sunday, though, that Ingram should be good to go for the Gators. Auburn played a lof of eight-man fronts, and Ingram was never able to get going. The thing Alabama has going for it is that freshman Trent Richardson is equally talented and they won't be afraid to use him if Ingram isn't 100 percent.
Thoughts on the big weekend for the Bulldogs? You can go whichever direction you'd like.
Chris Low (12:22 PM)
The Bulldogs showed a lot of pride bouncing back like that and honestly played in the offensive line the way I thought they would all season. Still think they have to address their defensive problems in some form or fashion.
Chris, who has the advantage in the matchup between Julio Jones and Joe Haden?
Chris Low (12:24 PM)
Jones is a lot bigger and so strong for a receiver, but Haden has such great closing speed and instincts. He's also a physical tackler. Should be a great matchup of two future NFL players.
I was at the UF-FSU game. Have you ever seen anything like that in a regular game with all of the flashes popping on Tebow's last drive? Pretty special (we saw him in the hotel the next day and he was gracious enough to interrupt his breakfast for pics with our baby). His popularity and career are unparalleled, agree?
Chris Low (12:27 PM)
He's the most visible college athlete of my lifetime for sure and has been such a class act. He's not perfect, and I don't think anybody has ever claimed that he is. But for those of us who love sports, he's the ulitimate competitor. And for those of us who have kids, he's the kind of athlete you feel good about them looking up to with the way he's carried himself on and off the field.
I am still in shock at how well Carolina and Georgia played last weekend. Where has that been all season? If they could played that inspired against the SEC they would be in the dome this weekend. Does Spurrier not know how to use his players (Gilmore) or did Richt not know he had a running game?
Chris Low (12:28 PM)
I'd been wondering all season why he hadn't seen a little more of Gilmore in the Wildcat package. But I also understand when you consider he's a true freshman starting at corner and also returning punts. Still, a guy that talented, I've got to get his hands on the ball some.
Colt McCoy would not have his numbers in the SEC. The only game he played a good defense was OU and he only got 16 points. You agree? And why isn't this considered in Heisman voting?
Chris Low (12:30 PM)
Yes and no. McCoy has had a great season and would get my vote right now. But I'm not voting until after this weekend's games. I think McCoy would be an outstanding player in any league. And keep in mind that Tebow only threw seven touchdown passes in SEC play this season.
Do you see any scenerio in which Ole Miss gets demoted to a Non-January 1 bowl, after the loss this Saturday? I am hearing rumors that both the Cotton and Outback may take a 3-5 team taht Ole Miss beat instead of the Rebels.
Chris Low (12:31 PM)
I don't think so, but the Rebels certainly left the door open with how poorly they played last weekend.
EK (Evanston, IL)
Does the coaching edge go to Meyer in this one? His teams always seem to step up in big games, while Saban's had some problems in the past (see the Sugar Bowl in January).
Chris Low (12:35 PM)
I'd take either one of these coaches in a big game. I don't think there's any appreciable advantage. But until Meyer loses a BCS game, I've got to go with him.
Hey Chris how would you rate year 1 of the Dan Mullen Era
Chris Low (12:37 PM)
Outside of not being able to get to a bowl, I think it's about as good as anyone could have reasonably expected. Winning the Egg Bowl sends a strong message to everybody in the state, including recruits. I thought Mullen and his staff did an excellent job of maxmizing their personnel. Now he needs to go out and have another good year of getting the best prospects in the state. Lot of young talent in the program, which is promising.
Jhon (Baton Rouge, LA)
Chris, is LSU doomed to mediocrity under Les Miles?
Chris Low (12:38 PM)
Listen, the deal at Ole Miss was inexcusable. I've been as hard on Miles as anyone. But if the Tigers win their bowl game, that's four out of five seasons that they've won 10 or more games. That hardly qualifies as mediocre.
When I look at Bama's team I see a team that will be even better next year. What do you think?
Chris Low (12:40 PM)
Yes, I think Alabama will be SEC favorite next year and possibly preseason No. 1 nationally. That said, I do believe Rolando McClain will turn pro, which won't help.
Kathy (Jackson, MS)
After an amazing game against Alabama, what do you think the future holds for Auburn and Gene Chizick?
Chris Low (12:42 PM)
I thought it was noteworthy that the Auburn fans gave the team a standing ovation as the players and coaches left the field. Chizik has to upgrade the talent on defense and build more depth. Finding a quarterback to run Malzahn's offense is key, too. Sounds like Rollison, who redshirted this year, is going to get the first shot.
Who do you think should be the All SEC QB?
Chris Low (12:43 PM)
I was leaning toward Mallett until this past weekend. He has the better numbers, but it's hard to ignore Tebow's overall impact. Give me a few more days to think about it.
What does Alabama's defense have to do to slow down Tim Tebow?
Chris Low (12:45 PM)
Keep him in third-and-long and make him beat you throwing the football. Of course, Florida is so good on first down that the Gators aren't in a lot of third-and-long situations. I don't think you'll see Bama sit back, either. They'll come after Tebow.
Jonathan (Baton Rouge)
Chris,Is LSU a lock for the Capital One Bowl? Anything that would keep them out?
Chris Low (12:48 PM)
Yes, I think. The Capital One likes to take the highest ranked team available, which is LSU.
Andrew (Little Rock)
Hey Chris, I think the 1st of half of the Ark-LSU game showed why Mallet needs at least 1 more yr of college ball. Do you agree?
Chris Low (12:51 PM)
Yes, I think Mallett needs another year. If he comes back, he'll be a top 15-20 pick
Matt (New York)
Does mark Ingram still have a shot at the Heisman with a great performance on Saturday?
Chris Low (12:53 PM)
Sure, if he rolls up 150 yards and the Tide win, I think he jumps right back in.
Chris, after losing to Tenn (and trip to Outback Bowl) where do you see Kentucky going bowlin' this year?
Chris Low (12:54 PM)
I would say Independence Bowl or Papajohns.com Bowl.
Chris, any word on if Willie Martinez is out at Georgia? The entire Bulldog Nation is getting impatient.
Chris Low (12:56 PM)
That's a tough call for Richt. Those two are extremely close, and coaches never want to part ways with guys they think have been loyal during tough times.
Florida is a 6 point favorite right now. Why?
Chris Low (12:57 PM)
Two words ... Tim Tebow.
Chris, Who do you see playing the Buckeyes in the Rose bowl? Oregon or Oregon State?
Chris Low (12:59 PM)
Doesn't this year prove that we need a playoff in college football?
Chris Low (1:00 PM)
A lot of years have, but we won't see one any time soon.
Jared (Athens, GA)
So, do you see the Dawgs as a lock in the Chik-Fil-A bowl now that they have beaten Georgia Tech or do you think that they might get passed up for South Carolina, even though Georgia has the head to head win against the Gamecocks. Also, I know many people have Virginia Tech as the ACC bowl tie in for Atlanta, but if the Chik-Fil-A Bowl Committee could do get Georgia Tech, would they go for a Georgia-Georgia Tech rematch?
Chris Low (1:01 PM)
No way there's a Georgia-Georgia Tech rematch. My projection is Georgia vs. Virginia Tech.
Chris Low (1:02 PM)
Hey, thanks for the questions. We finally settle the Alabama-Florida debate this Saturday.
