Chat with Billy Corben
Welcome to SportsNation! On Tuesday, we'll have director Billy Corben chatting about his film "The U" that is part of ESPN's 30 for 30 project, commemorating ESPN's 30th anniversary. The film debuts Saturday (9 p.m. ET, ESPN).
30 for 30 is an unprecedented documentary series featuring 30 films from some of today's finest storytellers, detailing the events that transformed the sports landscape from 1979 to 2009. "The U" tells the story of the 1980s in Miami, Fla., which was at the center of a racial and cultural shift taking place throughout the country. Overwhelmed by riots and tensions, Miami was a city in flux, and the University of Miami football team served as a microcosm for this evolution.
Corben was born in Florida and graduated from the University of Miami where he majored in political science, screenwriting and theater. His feature documentary directorial debut, "Raw Deal: A Question of Consent," premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001, making him one of the youngest directors in Sundance history.
