Joel is just settling in over at Syracuse, so we'll get to answering some questions in just a second...
Gergs (Davenport, IA)
How well will Cornell match-up with Virginia next week? Is that the game not to miss ?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:04 PM)
I think the match up between cornell and virgina will be a very good game, cornell is playing a little more up and down then you usually see.. and of course vriginia is going to be running, so i think it will be a good test for both teams.
What was the mood of the team after Sunday's loss?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:07 PM)
It is so early in the season, there really isnt time for us to be in any kind of mood after the virginia game, we just have to take what we can away from the game, and look toward next weeks game and try not to make the same mistakes twice.. we are going to be learning this entire season, so getting better everyday is what we are looking to do
Cuse Fan (NYC)
Hey man, love watching the way you play. You remind me of Marshall Abrams from the 2000 team. If you guys had a shut down d-man along the lines of John Glatzel you would be killing people. Who do you try to emulate your game after? It has been a long time since we had a top notch D man like Glatzel or Abrams around...
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:11 PM)
i try and take what i can from everyone's game.. Me not playing long stick until i got to Syracuse, i can use as much work as i can get, so my game is just about watching a bunch of the best defenders in the game play and see if i can take a little from each
kegan (mtp sc)
Do you feel that Syracuse University represents CNY lacrosse?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:14 PM)
I don't know that Syracuse represents all of CNY lacrosse, because we have so many good players from everywhere around the country as well as there are so many other great players from CNY playing at other places so it is hard to say that Syracuse is the only place representing CNY
Hey Joel hope your ok mate, You had the best possible start as a freshman and Jr and you had some great leaders in those teams are you still as hungry as day one and do you want to walk away with hands like Mr T's (full of rings) and also what is the main thing your learned off the captains of the last two years? All the best mateWoody
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:19 PM)
Yes, i am still just as hungry if not more hungry than i was at day one. I have the opportunity to win four national championships, and not only that but am playing for Orange, there is so much history here, there is no way that i or my teammates couldn't be as hungry to win both for each other as well as the program
Dave Hallows (Stockport, England)
Hey Joel,Congratulations of two great years at Cuse and two Rings. After winning it all Back-to-back how do you and the other upper classmen stay motivated? What do you tell the freshmen about the experience to get their heads screwed on right? It's been a pleasure watching you represent the Orange, keep up the good work HHH.
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:21 PM)
Staying motivated is easy when you are in a program like syracuse, we expect to be competing for a championship every year, and winning back to back was great, now its a new season, different team and a new task.. as far as the freshmen, we have great character on this team and we all want the same thing, so we will keep working hard everyday and it will pay off in may
James K. (New York)
i always hear about you playing middie in high school than switching to d pole middie in college. How hard was it to switch from a short stick to a long stick middie?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:22 PM)
The switch was tough. It was tough at first because it was new to me and i had to work on stuff that had been coming easy to me for so long, such as simple things like passing and catching, but after i began playing and learning more, it has become alot of fun for me
What advice to you have for young long poles just staring out
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:28 PM)
The best advise that i can give for young lacrosse players both short stick as well as long sticks, is get on a wall and just play wall ball to get your stick skills down, once you are comfortable with your stick in your hands everything else comes much easier.. Also to all the young kids, play to have fun! if your not having fun something is wrong!
whats your go to check & whats your best take away check
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:29 PM)
The best check in the game is a poke check, it is not flashy, but it gets the job done and doesnt get you out of position. My favorite check is the ding dong, although, body position is the key to defense.
how has playing box lacrosse affected your field game
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:31 PM)
One of the biggest things the box game does for a filed player is help his stick skills, it helps protection of the stick as well as your ability to catch and finish in small spaces
How you feel about the basketball team blowing it today?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:33 PM)
I am not worried.. They didn't blow it, still plenty of season left for those guys.. they will get it done in the tourney. No reason to be alarmed
BubbaCuse (Mother's Cupboard, James Street)
Joel, It looked like last week there was a little bit of hesitation on the offensive end. Are the coaches addressing this at all in practice? There are certainly a lot of weapons down there, it just looks like people are trying to figure things out a little bit.
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:35 PM)
Our offense and our team are trying to find their identity.. It was a learning experience for the whole team, i am not worried about our offense we have so many good players and good coaches we will be fine
In what aspects do you see your team making improvements after the loss to Virginia?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:36 PM)
Our team is looking to make improvements everyday. We took a lot away from that game, we know we need to clean a lot of things up, but at the same time, we are young and it is nice to see a young team come back and show plenty of character in the fourth quarter.
Did you watch the 6ot game last year between uconn and cuse?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:37 PM)
I did watch that game, great game.. love watching our basketball team do well, we have a great program and i look forward to watching us kill it in the ncaa tourney
any advice to high school players? and what did you do to during high school to get recruited?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:39 PM)
My personal advice for high school athletes is play as many sports as you can, every one of them will help your athletic ability and a lot of times you use the same skills in different sports.
Stefan C (Westchester)
What kind of stick do you use? Has it helped you be an offensive threat when you bring the ball into the box
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:43 PM)
I use an x10, I am not real big on what stick I use, whatever works, if I can pass, catch, and pick up ground balls then its a great stick.
Troy (in the Syracuse Training Room)
What prompted the recent change from shaggy hair to the buzz cut?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:44 PM)
I needed a new look, a 'fresh' start... Plus it might make me faster! We'll see.
What is Galloway like off the field? He is very intense on the field. And what are your thoughts on Duke this year, they seem to be faltering lately.
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:47 PM)
Galloway is a great person off the field, my roommate too, he is just an all around great guy! You don't really see him being very intense off the field, that is something that he brings to the field to, and a great thing to bring. But off the field, just a well mannered teddy bear.Duke has a great team and a great coach, i see them making some sort of run here in the coming weeks
how do you string your stick? differently than when you played offense? and what stick do you use?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:49 PM)
I use an x10.. it is a little different from when i was in high school, although i know nothing about stringing sticks, so i hand all my stick problems to my friend and teammate Thomas Guads for repairs.
i'm a defensive midfielder that also plays LSM occasionally, i'm having trouble sliding mainly with wanting to throw a stick check as i slide, any advice?
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:52 PM)
When sliding you never want to slide with your stick, they will run through your check.. While sliding, dont hesitate go if your gonna go, and slide and get your body or hands on them so you can guide them where you want them to go
Hey Joel - how are you guys going to make up for the loss of Kevin Drew this weekend against Gtown? How do you see the match up this weekend shaping up? Go Orange!
Joel White (Syracuse) (2:57 PM)
Kevin is a tough loss for us, he does so many things out there, but things like this happen, kevin is going to work as hard as he can to get back, and until then we will try and fill his spot as best as we can.. The match up shoul dbe a good game, gtown always plays tough and are playing well this year.. we look forward to getting back out there and hopefully getting a win
Sean Burns (2:58 PM)
