Bernard (South FL)
Hey Terry, Im a huge Jamie Mac fan. What are his chances for a top 10 at darlington this week, and where do you see him next year (team,sponsor...etc)?
Terry Blount (2:01 PM)
Jamie isn't going anywhere. He's staying at EGR. Highly likely they will re-sign him. And I think his chances are good at Darlington. Truex finished 6th at Darlington in that car last year.
Where will Harvick end up next year? Any chance of him winning a cup championship this year?
Terry Blount (2:03 PM)
Harvick could win it if he announces he's staying at RCR. If he says he's leaving, I doubt it. Lame duck teams just don't have the same gusto. At this point, I think he staying, but they need to find a sponsor.
Lindsay (Auburn Hills, Michigan)
With Daytona USA, Henricks, Childress, Petty and a bunch of teams all having Nascar museums where did Nascar HOF get there stuff?
Terry Blount (2:04 PM)
There's tons of stuff out there, and almost every team contributed something. They all want to be a part of the HoF.
If Joey Logano wins at sonoma will they let him drink the wine in victory lane since he is only 20? Seems like it may be a PR nightmare if he did.
Terry Blount (2:05 PM)
Good question. I imagine he would skip it and hand it over to Zippy. And the team owner doesn't drink either.
Rico (Port Angeles)
Hey Terry, now that Kyle dominanted like never before at Richmond, is the driver of the Penske #22 your new Master of the Minors?
Terry Blount (2:07 PM)
No, it's still Kyle. That moniker doesn't mean he can't win in Cup. Kyle is one of the most talanted drivers I've ever seen. It means he dominates where he shouldn't be racing all the time.
Josh (Charleston, WV)
If RCR and Kevin Harvick can come together and work out an agreement to stick together, who might some potential sponsors be to help revive this once troubled relationship? RCR has obviously shown that it can be a contender once again, especially when it comes to horsepower. Or can they stick together at all?
Terry Blount (2:08 PM)
Budweiser is still talking to potential suitors.
I know some do not like road course racing, but I love road course racing! Which driver(s) will have a good chance to win at road course races this year in Sprint Cup?
Terry Blount (2:09 PM)
Some guys always are contenders on the road courses _ Stewart, Gordon, Ambrose Montoya and Kyle.
Are there any indication about changing tracks in 2011 schedule?
Terry Blount (2:10 PM)
KC will get a second Cup date. Kentucky may have to wait until 2012. Bruton wants to renovate and add seats first.
Earl (Portsmouth, NH)
Do the top teams like Kyle's #18 regard the All star race as a full race testing session and would a top driver like Kyle, Gordon, Kurt, Denny consider sitting it out so as not to waste a good race car and avoid possible injury?
Terry Blount (2:11 PM)
No one would sit it out. It's a big payday, especially for the crew.
mike (charlotte nc)
HI Terry love your work can you tell us non rednecks why dale jr sucks so bad? refresh my memory but has he won a race in teh last 5 years?
Terry Blount (2:13 PM)
Dale Jr. won at Michigan in 2008, his first season at Hendrick. The man has 18 Cup victories. That doesn't happen by accident. They were looking better this year, but Richmond was a horrible race for the 88 team.
How come no writer here will give us the story about Kyles lack of paying his bills???
Terry Blount (2:15 PM)
Because that's not the real story. Kyle doesn't own the building. Not yet. It's still being completed. It's complicated, but what you've seen written is misleading.
Because of the new spoilers, how much do we will see the Darlington stripes?
Terry Blount (2:16 PM)
Spoilers, wings, whatever, the Darlington strip happens to the best of them. I can't wait to see on the spoiler does on the Lady in Black. It's a bit of an unknown, but that makes it fun.
Jackie (Palmdale, CA)
Do you really believe that Knaus, Letarte take engines at random from Henricks engine shop and use the same engines that the customers like Phoenix and SHR lease?
Terry Blount (2:17 PM)
Honestly, I have my doubts about that. But that's what they say.
who is your pick for the championship this year?
Terry Blount (2:18 PM)
I picked Hamlin before the season started. If he can hang in there while his knee heals, which he has shown he can, I think he still has a great chance to win it.
caster and camber (bahama, nc)
whats up TB? i am by no means a fan of open wheel racing. i dont dislike it, its that i just dont keep up with it. in this months espn the mag, there is an article about this new "delta wing" indy car. it looks like the bat mobile. looking at it, it looks like the front tires are really close together. that cant help with steering with such a small wheel base. also whats up with the single tail fin too? so is this just a prototype? when will this new indy car be revealed? thanks again
Terry Blount (2:20 PM)
It is one wild looking car, not doubt about that. To me it looks like the car Craig Breedlove drove at the Bonneville Salt Flats in the old land speed record days. IndyCar officials have to decide if they want to make a big splash on go with soemthing way out there like this or stick with a more traqditional design like the one Lola has proposed.
Josh (Fairmont, WV)
Terry:Bobby Labonte has made some sad career moves of late by signing with Petty, then HOF racing and now TRG. His fans are starting to feel that he should retire as its hard to see him constantly in the back mainly due to equipment. Was he ever close to signing with RCR and do you feel he will retire or stay around in bad cars.
Terry Blount (2:22 PM)
As long as a team owner is willing to pay you millions of dollars, it's hard to walk away no matter how bad the equipment is. It is sad to see Bobby sort of fade away, but it's not unusual.
Jack Trae (KCMO)
Whats the deal with Vickers this year?
Terry Blount (2:25 PM)
That's a great question. I've been wondering the same thing. It looks like that team has taken a big step backwards. They don't know why. No one does yet, although the non-JGR Toyota teams aren't runnng well. But I believe Jay Frye is an outstanding GM and they'll do everything possible to get it turned around.
Terry, would Nascar even consider running a Cup race at Iowa? I thought the NW race there last year was great!
Terry Blount (2:26 PM)
A great track from everything I hear, but it isn't on NASCAR's radar for now in terms of Cup. They would need to add seats. But it's the size track that's conducive to good racing with these cars.
Coco (Ann Arbor, MI)
Terry perhaps you can answer this, why won't Nascar race at Rockingham again?
Terry Blount (2:27 PM)
A remote area that doesn't have enough seats and doesn't fit the needs of sponsors. That ship has sailed as far as Cup goes.
Brian (woodbridge, VA)
Harvick, Busch, and Newman have all broke 20 plus race winless streaks this year, Gordon, Biffle, Kenseth, Earnhardt Jr, Edwards, Bowyer, and Burton all have winless streaks up more than 20 races, do you think all of them could break their streaks this season and which ones have the best shot of winning this year?
Terry Blount (2:30 PM)
I don't think all of them well, but some of them will. Gordon is going to win this year. Mark it down. Burton is very close. The Ford guys will win if the equipment is up to the task, and going to the new engine this summer may help. As I wrote today, about 22 or 23 guys starts each race with at least a chance of winning, and that's a good thing.
Nicholas Rolando (Orlando)
Terry, will Alonso make his home country proud this weekend in Spain by winning?
Terry Blount (2:33 PM)
I think he has a really good shot at it. I know they team feels they are making big strides.
Justin M (Boone, NC)
Does the shark fin have to be on the left side, or can it be moved around? I ask because I wonder if it would affect the left-turn/right-turn balance on road courses, and if so, could they change it?
Terry Blount (2:33 PM)
It has to be on the left.
Will KBM fold? They seem to lack sponsors and only pay attention to the 18 truck.
Terry Blount (2:34 PM)
KBM is not folding.
Cremins (Columbia, SC)
If Kansas Speedway wasn't so close to the headquarters of Sprint, which is headquarted in Kansas City, would we even be discussing Kansas getting a second date? Just seems like there are much better options for race dates than two race weekends in Kansas, but that is just a never ending conversation really.
Terry Blount (2:37 PM)
Sprint isn't the main reason. Kansas Speedway is the favored track for Lesa France. That's her baby. She helped planned it from Day 1. I'm not sure it deserves two races, but it's an outstanding facilty in a great location. And now it will have a hotel and casino. Going there twice a year won't hurt my feelings one bit.
Why is it taking ford so long to roll out the new engine? By the time everyone is running it you would figure that it will be close being out dated again.
Terry Blount (2:39 PM)
Frankly, they rushed it a little bit and starting talking about it too soon. It takes time to build up all the parts and pieces the teams will need, and they had to make sure it was reliable. Plus, all the manufacturers were cutting back when Ford announces the engine plans. But this is the first Ford NASCAR engine built exclusively for racing. It has a unique colling design and could become something special.
Mark (Mount Airy,MD)
Terry, I agree it is inevitable that Kansas will get a second date. Who will lose a race date as a result??????
Terry Blount (2:42 PM)
That's the the big question. No one knows and I don't think NASCAR/ISC officials have decided. Most fans want it to be Fontana, but sponsors want to race there twice a year. Martinsville was thopught to be on the chopping block, but i don't think so now. The racing is good and the fans love the place. Phoenix also is a question mark.
Lucas (Salt Lake City)
Do you Nascar drivers get up really early like at 5:00 on Sundays to watch the Formula One races live?
Terry Blount (2:42 PM)
Depends on the driver, but for the most part, no.
Trevor (Columbus, Ohio)
Has Richard Petty ever uttered 1 single sentence without using the work "deal"?
Terry Blount (2:43 PM)
Very funny. Hey, here's the DEAL, I love the way The King talks.
Jeremy (Port Angeles, WA)
Do you see the Izod Indycar Series returing to Kansas Speedway in 2011?
Terry Blount (2:44 PM)
Probably, but I see they are planning a street race in Baltimore next year.
Cory (Geneva, IL)
What do you think of making the AllStar race an IROC type event. Have NASCAR set up even cars for everyone and find out who the best driver is. Otherwise it seems half the teams use it too test and the best teams win it, not the best driver.
Terry Blount (2:47 PM)
What I would like to see is NASCAR move the All-Star to different venues every year, which would automatically change things and give other parts of the country a chance to enjoy a different type of show.
Amy (Englewood, CO)
Why was Jamie Mac so harsh in his comments about Jack Roush yesterday on his ESPN interview saying he never felt like he fit in and Jack only calling him 3 times in 3 years? Everyone knows you never talk bad about your former employeer.
Terry Blount (2:49 PM)
Jamie was honest about his feelings, which I like. Too many guys won't tell you what they really think. He wasn't beligerent about it. His point was he just feels more comfortable at a smaller operation where he can speak to the team owner on a regular basis.
Best race of last weekend was the trucks! No cup guys and that double 180 save was sweet!
Terry Blount (2:50 PM)
That was fun to watch. I think this Hornaday-Sauter rivalry is going to continue.
Is graham rahal going to end up being better than his father?
Terry Blount (2:51 PM)
He'd have to be pretty darn good to equal his old man's accomplishments. But Graham is still very young, so it's possible.
Jon (Bakersfield, CA)
Do you hear more cheers for Kyle Busch now that the "new Kyle" has emerged from the old brash Kyle?
Terry Blount (2:53 PM)
I noticed that last weekend at Richmond. The boos are dying down a little. He's definitely gaining more respect, but having people boo you isn't always a bad thing. It's means they are passionate about what you do. Having then not boo or cheer, that's a bad thing.
Rob F (Hoboken, NJ)
If Kansas has to gain a date why not cut one (or both) from Poconos? It's probably the worst track on the circuit.
Terry Blount (2:56 PM)
I agree, but it's political. Pocono is independently owned by the Mattioli family. Kansas is an ISC track, which is controlled by the France family. They won't take a race away from the Mattiolis and give it to themselves. They will take it from another ISC track.
Are the Kyle Busch haters more obnoxious than the Little Junior haters?
Terry Blount (2:57 PM)
Little E haters are mostly online. You don't see many of them at the track, at least you dont' hear them because they are drowned out by the legion of Junior lovers.
Terry Blount (2:58 PM)
I gotta run folks. Great chat today. You guy are on it. Have a great weekend. Peace.
