Terry Blount (2:01 PM)
What's up folks. Should Indy have GWC. Is Danica back. Half way to the Chase, will the top 12 chance. Your thoughts?
Perhaps there was more to Kyle being upset the All Star race then we thought. Thinking maybe his share of the money ($400K) would help with his truck team. Thoughts?
Terry Blount (2:02 PM)
I'm sure it would, but typically drivers give a lot of the All-Star winnings to their crew.
Tanner (West Virginia)
What's your take on the Denny Hamlin/Kyle Busch feud? I think they just don't like each other.
Terry Blount (2:03 PM)
They aren't best friends, no doubt about that. But that's been true for many competitive teammates over the years.
IS JIMMIE JOHNSON IN TROUBLE AFTER HAVING THREE FINISHES 30 OR WORSE? IS RICK HENDRICK RIGHT SAYING THAT JGR LAPPED THEM AND CAN WE SAY THE SAME FOR THE BLUE DEUCE?
Terry Blount (2:04 PM)
No and No. Trust me. JJ will be in the hunt once the Chase starts.
Marco (Plano, TX)
With all the sponsorship and contractor problems do you think Kyle will cut his losses and shut down Kyle Busch Motorsports?
Terry Blount (2:05 PM)
I don't see him doing that this year. I think he will ride it out and hope some sponsorship comes along. Next year? Who knows.
Chance Duckworth (Alabama)
Do you think that a Ford could go to victory lane this weekend? It is really hard to believe how much Roush Fenway is struggling right now.
Terry Blount (2:06 PM)
Ford is using the new engine in four of the cars this wekeend. Pocono is a lot like a road course and it's a long race. The have guys capable of winnig it, but it would be my first choice. I'd go with Hamlin.
What's going on with Harvick and sponsorship next year? Any ideas on who the sponsor will be?
Terry Blount (2:08 PM)
Maybe Bud. Whatever potential sponsors they are talking to, I'm sure the sponsors wnated to know Kevin was coming back before agreeing to a deal.
Jeremy (Port Angeles, WA)
Indy does not need GWC. It should be only 500 miles.
Terry Blount (2:09 PM)
I agree, but it is an interesting question considering what NASCAR has done. Since 1940, 13 Indy 500s have ended under yellow, but six of those were from rain.
I realize that Kahne has had some bad luck this year....why isn't he getting a better performance now that, supposedly, he had better equipment, ie., Roush engines.
Terry Blount (2:10 PM)
Being a lame duck with a team almost always is a bad thing that affects performance.
Brian (Richmond, Ky.)
Heard anything on who D&R may get to replace Mike Conway while he recovers? That wreck was the most vicious hit, open-wheel or otherwise, I've seen since the last time Rusty went flipping down the backstretch at Talladega.
Terry Blount (2:12 PM)
I was scary. I haven't heard yet, but I would love to see them give Rahal a ride.
Can't nascar do something that would prevent the splitters from cutting so many tires?
Terry Blount (2:13 PM)
How about just taking it off. That works for me.
Joe B (KL Ontario)
I noticed all the Roush cars except the 6 and only the 43 are runing FR9 engine. Is RPM cuting back on the support to the 9 car becuse Kasey's Leaving?
Terry Blount (2:14 PM)
Officially no. Unofficially, he's no longer their top priority.
Terry, why do you choose 1940 as your reference point for finishes under yellow? The race has been going on since 1911. Is 1940 the advent of the yellow flag?
Terry Blount (2:15 PM)
Because many races before that time were drastically different. More cars, sometimes two drivers, lots of odd things that would happen today.
Did Graham Rahal do enough to secure a ride for the rest of the season?
Terry Blount (2:17 PM)
I thought young Graham showed a lot at Indy. I know he got black-flagged for blocking, but he raced hard, especially when he was trying to stay on the lead lap. He's got a lot of talent. Just ridiculous he doesn't have a full-time ride.
I would not say that Danica is back. She had a good finish in the 500, but she really struggled all day.
Terry Blount (2:18 PM)
Her finishing spot was a bit misleading, but she's always at her best in that race. She plays it smart and bides her time. She also wisely praised her crew after throwing the under the bus in qualifying.
Terry, if the white flag waves before the caution, doesn't that make the race official? Even if they had a GWC the wreck came after the white flag.
Terry Blount (2:20 PM)
Yes, which I wrote in my column. In this case, it wouldn't have mattwered, but it brought up a lot of what-if questions about GWCs in the IndyCar series.
Ron (Huntersville, NC)
We noticed yesterday on 1 of the Nascar shows a graphic comparing Kyle's 71 Nascar wins to Petty's 200 wins. Is that because Petty's 200 win were both Sprint Cup and Nationwide Cup?
Terry Blount (2:21 PM)
No. All of the King's 200 came at the Cup level. Comparing Kyle's win to Petty's is silly in my opinion.
Do you think Kasey will bring Kenny Francis with him to Hendrick?
Terry Blount (2:21 PM)
Yes, I expect that to happpen.
Ed (Fort Worth)
Which race weekend would you say is better, TB? Daytona 500 or Memorial Day weekend? Daytona is a great way to kick off the Nascar season, but there's something special about the Indy 500 and then 600 miles at Charlotte.
Terry Blount (2:23 PM)
And there's always a F1 race that day, and sometimes it's Monaco. I love the D500 to kick off the season, but the Memorial Day weekend Sunday is the biggest race day of the year.
Daniel (ATLANTA, Ga.)
Hey Terry just got home from Charlotte, great race and loved the Hall. I love CMS and love the All-Star Race, but don't you think it would be more entertaining for the fans and drivers to have it change every year? Like rotate from 5-7 big time tracks? Any chance of it happening?
Terry Blount (2:25 PM)
I'm with you and I've been syaing that for years. But it ain't happening. The drivers and teams like the extra time at home. Unless attendance for it at CMS gets horrible, it isn't moving.
Have you got an update on the condition on Biffle's crewman that was hit during the race?
Terry Blount (2:25 PM)
Yes, he's OK. No broken bones.
I'm a NASCAR fan, not an open wheel fan. With that said, I often watch the Indy 500. Almost every year that I have watched the 500, a driver has been seriously injured in a crash. What can you tell me about the safety of open wheel vs. NASCAR?
Terry Blount (2:27 PM)
NASCAR is safer now. That's just a fact. IndyCar drivers don't have as much protection around them. But Indy cars have never been safer than they are today. Conway is lucky to come away from thet crash with a broken leg a a back compression fracture.
How come Charlotte and INDY don't schedule 1 race for Sat. and the other for Sunday so the drivers can run both races?
Terry Blount (2:28 PM)
It would make more sense to have one Sunday and one on Memorial Day. But it won't happen.
Daniel (ATLANTA, Ga.)
Terry, the 48 is in a slump. How much longer do you think this continues and where does he bounce back with a much needed win? I thought Dover and if not, Charlotte for sure. His best tracks is where he's finishing poorly.
Terry Blount (2:29 PM)
I expect him to do well at Miichigan and at the Brickyard.
Iron Head Forever (New York)
I understand Pocono is hard to set up for because the turns are all different. Do teams try to set up for one specific corner or a compromise for all three?
Terry Blount (2:30 PM)
You have to compromise some of you might wreck in the turns that you didn't work on.
Jenn DJIC (New Jersey)
Hey - do you think that Jr will be let go at the end of the season like Casey Mears was when he was driving poorly? Is the money that he his pulling in for Hendrick making the difference?
Terry Blount (2:32 PM)
No chance Jr gets let go. He brings tons of sponsorship money to the organization.
Are you buying all the speculation that Henricks will release Dale Jr before the end of this season?
Terry Blount (2:32 PM)
I have been to Monaco, Daytona, and Indy. Nothing compares to Monaco. I know most of the chatters would disagree, but staying in Nice then traveling by bus to practice, qualifying and the race in Monaco is a once in a lifetime experience.
Terry Blount (2:35 PM)
I believe you. I've covered two World Series, six Super Bowls, three Final Fours, three NBA Finals, four heavyweight championship, 16 Indy 500s and 17 Daytona 500s. But Monaco is on my bucket list to do before I retire.
all the focus seems to be on the 48,11,18,24 for the title this year i know it is still early but why is harvick not getting any attention from anyone about being a contender for the title?
Terry Blount (2:36 PM)
I think KH got left out earlier because his situation at RCR was in limbo. He has a shot at it if his consistency holds, but he's need a couple of more wins so he doesn't start the Chase behind the others.
Tony (Columbus, Indiana)
Will Dario Franchitti participate in the June 9 Prelude to the Dream all-star dirt Late Model race at Eldora Speedway?
Terry Blount (2:38 PM)
He hasn't said. I plan to ask him this wekeend at TMS. But my guess is if may not commit to it this late.
Do you see a general pattern across the board with HMS? To me it seems like performance is down with every team, relatively speaking. Jimmie had at best a 3rd place car at arguably his best track, JG was 6-15 all race, Martin 10-15, And Jr was....well, you know. They were routinely having 3 cars in the top 10 comfortably last year, now, not so much.
Terry Blount (2:39 PM)
They've had a bad month, but I would count them out. Things can change in a hurry. They still have the best people in NASCAR working on those cars.
Stay at Hotel Negresco in Nice. Unbelievable. Plenty of squares with history and dining options.
Terry Blount (2:41 PM)
I would rather stay on George Clooney's yacht. I imagine a few grid girls might be around.
Terry, sure Harvick will be a contender too. But the team everyone seems to be overlooking is the 2. A past champion and Addington is a recipe for a sure contender in my book. You agree?
Terry Blount (2:42 PM)
I do agree. I think the 2 is the surprise of the season because many people doubted whether Dodge could make it work with only one organization and three cars.
so you picking for the stanley cup, i know chitown got a 2-0 lead, but i am a flyers fan
Terry Blount (2:43 PM)
I'll go with the Blackhawks. That wild-scoring first game was a hoot to watch.
here is my chase drivers when the chase begins.... 29,11,24,18,2,31,48,33,56,5,17,1. what you think?
Terry Blount (2:45 PM)
It's possible. Not sure about the 56. And the 1 has some work to do.
Will Jr be driving for another team next year
Terry Blount (2:46 PM)
His contract with Hendrick is good for two more seasons.
Sean (Logan, UT)
Does Kyle having the resources of Denny, Mike Ford, Joey and Zippy give #18 the championship edge because Kurt doesn't have any comprobable resources to draw upon?
Terry Blount (2:48 PM)
That's a good point. But Roger say all three of his crew chiefs work in the same room at the shop. But I don't know they are helping Steve as much as Seve is helping them.
Daryll B (Queens NY)
How about some love for the unheralded... Reutimann and Menard keep impressing me each week...and I can't say enough about the growth in David Regan. Terry who's your "unknown" driver to watch the rest of the season?
Terry Blount (2:49 PM)
Not really unknown, but I think young Joey is on the verge of some big things.
What did you think of Jeff Burton confronting Kyle Busch at the end of the race?
Terry Blount (2:50 PM)
I loved it. And JB handled it the right way. He kept his composure but let Kyle know how he felt.
one more for this week, for sonoma i am picking ambrose, robby gordon or jpm, you think jpm can get a win?
Terry Blount (2:51 PM)
JPM always is a contender at Sonoma.
Ed (Fort Worth)
I'm not an open-wheel fan either, but I was seriously impressed by Kanaan's effort at Indy. I was even more impressed when the first thing he said during post-race interviews was that the right car won. Why aren't we hearing more about this guy?
Terry Blount (2:53 PM)
Tony's always has been a class act. It's a real shame he hasn't won Indy. He's just snakebit there. When he does win it, and I believe he will, the crowd and everyone on pit road will cheer him. That's how respected he is. The man's is a pro's pro.
Larry (Norcross, GA)
Was Jeff Burton invited to Samantha's b-day party yesterday at Kyle's house?
Terry Blount (2:53 PM)
I'm guessing JB skipped that one.
Sooooooo Jeff Burton handled his issue with Kyle the right way, while Kyle handled his issue with Denny _____ (fill in the blank)
Terry Blount (2:56 PM)
Both men made their point. But maybe Kyle didn't need to drive over to Denny's hauler.
Which Tony wins their 500 first? Kanaan or Smoke?
Terry Blount (2:57 PM)
Kanaan. Not sure Smoke will race again in the I500, even if $20 million is on the line foer the double.
With Michigan June 13th marking the 2 year anniversary for Dale Jr's last win do you think it is time to make a crew chief change on the #88?
Terry Blount (2:58 PM)
I think something needs to change, but I'm not sure what it is.
kevin (new jersey)
i think mike meant the daytona 500 for tony stewart
Terry Blount (2:59 PM)
In that case, I might have to say Smoke.
Terry, how much will the # of questions you get for these chats be affected when Lance, Dale Jr., & crew get things turned around? :)
Terry Blount (3:00 PM)
Lots of I-told-you-sos from the Jr nation if that happens.
Is Rusty Wallace still part of the ESPN announcing team?
Terry Blount (3:01 PM)
Yes he is.
jon (Pa )
Ive noticed that most of Jr's wins came under Eury sr. Will they ever team back up in the cup series
Terry Blount (3:02 PM)
I don't think old Pops wants all those headaches at this point in his life.
Terry Blount (3:04 PM)
Gotta run to the studio folks for NASCAR Now. Be sure to watch at 6:30 pm ET. Lots of interesting questions coming my way. Don't miss it. Have a great week. Peace.
