Andrew Feldman (4:02 PM)
Hey everyone! Welcome to Friday's WSOP Chat! Send in the questions, lets get started.
Pete (Rochester, NY)
Dean Hamrick chasing a bracelet has to be one of the best stories of the year, right?
Andrew Feldman (4:05 PM)
How could it not? Watching Hamrick become the bubble boy to Craig Marquis a few years ago was by far the hardest moment I've witnessed a poker player go through. Being there and watching the disappointment show on his face was brutal. He's come close in the past, but this could be the day he'll finally get the moment he's due.
Do you have any prop bets with Bernard Lee or Phil Gordon in this years WSOP? if you do you should be shaking in your boots with Bernard's deep run.
Andrew Feldman (4:07 PM)
Nope. If Bernard wins, I think the punishment of the prop bet is that we'd never hear the end of it...but I think in all reality, that would be something I'd learn to deal with. He's got a long day ahead of him and he'll need a quick double up in order to stay in contention.
Antoine (Reno, NV)
As the date draws even closer for the start of the TOC, is there any word on whether any of the invitees actually might not show up, or do you think it's pretty safe to say they'll all be there?
Andrew Feldman (4:08 PM)
You're freerolling in a million-dollar prize pool with only 26 players separating you from half a million for first. I don't know what excuse could be worth it to say that a player couldn't make it. I think Ivey's gonna show, but we'll keep digging on that angle.
Jeff (Charleston SC)
Whats more likely to happen...USA winning World Cup or Phil Hellmuth winning WSOP Main Event
Andrew Feldman (4:08 PM)
USA winning world cup. Neither are going to happen, but both would be amazing.
Russell (Waco, TX)
Last year there was the Champions freeroll, and this year there is the TOC. Any chance the WSOP makes a bracelet event next year or down the road where the entry is $10K or more, plus only previous bracelet winners could enter? It's not like all bracelet events are open events now (Seniors, Ladies).
Andrew Feldman (4:10 PM)
I don't think this event will ever be for a bracelet. I do think eventually we'll see an event at the end of each WSOP featuring former bracelet winners. Give the real champions a chance to compete and not have to deal with any voting, exemptions, etc.
The forums seem to have a lot of players they dislike. Who do you think get an unfair bad rap?
Andrew Feldman (4:12 PM)
I don't really know anyone that the forums really like...maybe Ivey, but then he gets throw into all the photoshop posts and who knows where those go. Dwan still remains the online idol, so maybe he's the exception. Pick a player where the post stars with "____ busto?" and that player is getting a bad rap.
I'm not sure if he was even eligible, but what if the fans had voted in Russ Hamilton for the TOC, kind of like those "Vote for the Worst" campaigns on American Idol. Would they have let him play?
Andrew Feldman (4:14 PM)
I don't think so. Remember that during last year's 40K celebration, Hamilton wasn't extended an invite to play. I also don't think he wants to be anywhere near a lot of other players at the moment.
For whatever reason (too many losses, too tired) have any big names decided to either pack it in until the main event, or play fewer events?
Andrew Feldman (4:16 PM)
I've heard after the $10K HORSE that Doyle was done until the main event. He's been really busy with doylesroom stuff and he hasn't had much success which also probably influenced his decision. Give him all the credit in the world though
Green Hat Guy (Vegas)
Can you give a quick update on Tourneys running right now. THanks
Andrew Feldman (4:17 PM)
You can find all of this in today's poker blog: http://espn.go.com/sports/fantasy/blog/_/name/poker/id/5326975/the-year-redemption-pt-2
I have no idea whatsoever, but I'll guess that Rounders 2 gets made and is released August 2012. Do you take the over or under on that date, or do you think it's never gonna happen?
Andrew Feldman (4:18 PM)
Over. I have a feeling that the next time we see Rounders it's going to be like a Karate Kid remake in another 10 years.
Am I the only one is a litte sick of Annette mania? If I hear about winning a tournament without looking at her cards one more time...I mean just because someone does something like that doesn't mean it was a smart decision. She is probably the only one do it but how many people would try something like that? I mean really, who cares?
Andrew Feldman (4:19 PM)
Hey, did you know she won a tournament without looking at her cards more than one time?
I had never seen Abe Mosseri on TV but he was pretty entertaining to watch during the Big Game this week. Who's in the lineup next week?
Andrew Feldman (4:20 PM)
I haven't received the release yet, but Barry Greenstein and Joe Cada are in next week's show and there's an interesting hand between them that will be discussed for sure on all forums.
Shane (Cleveland, OH)
What does it mean on the list of players who were in the money for a tournament and the list says "(did not report)"? Do people actually not pick up their winnings?
Andrew Feldman (4:21 PM)
It means that the official results do not include a player for that spot. Most likely the player has not picked up their money yet as you said.
Oh look........another day, another Chainsaw cash!!!! Leads WSOP this year with six!
Andrew Feldman (4:22 PM)
Yes...the chainsaw has officially become...a beast. With a solid finish tonight he could be...gulp...leading the player of the year race.
Randy (Shreveport, LA)
You hear all the time about players who were great but when bust, or those like Annette who apparently never went broke. What's the best example of a player who in the past 10-15 years was famously great and successful, then fell on hard times, but then became successful again?
Andrew Feldman (4:23 PM)
Best example is Daniel Negreanu. He openly talks about his struggles and how he overcame them to reach the point where he is today.
You guys are having a hard time having your columns line up with your links... Other then Ivey, what pro with average stack at final table would have best chance to take down title? Hellmuth, Mortenson, Dwan?
Andrew Feldman (4:25 PM)
Not sure what you mean with the links thing, feel free to clarify. If I could hand anyone an average stack at a final table, I'd give it to Hellmuth in a hold 'em event and Ivey in a mixed-game event.
Larry (Albany, NY)
What year do you think we'll see someone cash in their 100th WSOP event, and who do you think it will be?
Andrew Feldman (4:27 PM)
Hellmuth has 78. He averages 4-5 cashes a year, so I'll be dull and say Hellmuth in 2016.
Who has been the biggest disappointment thus far in this World Series?
Andrew Feldman (4:29 PM)
That's an interesting question. Think of this (and we'll talk about it on next week's Inside Deal): there have been no final tables for Negreanu, Greenstein, Ferguson, Doyle, Lederer, Chan or Matusow. That doesn't happen very often. If I'm giving an absolute winner, Lederer is my vote. He's played in a ton of events with no cashes at all.
Let's play Five Questions With Feldman: Favorite TV show, favorite junk hold em hand, favorite food, favorite sports team, favorite chat commenter.
Andrew Feldman (4:30 PM)
Favorite TV show: 24 (Cancelled, awesome), Favorite junk hold 'em hand: J-8, favorite food: anything. Look at me. Favorite sports team: Mets. Favorite chat commenter: Jobin (Quincy)..,until the next comment.
Go Braves! :-)
Andrew Feldman (4:32 PM)
Maury (Falls Church, VA)
Will there ever be another match between Andy Beal (or some other mega rich whale who know what he's doing, i.e., not Guy) and the best of the Vegas players? It would be so great to see that happen now with all the added poker coverage, or maybe is it all the added coverage that's keeping it from happening?
Andrew Feldman (4:32 PM)
No. I think if some rich guy comes to Vegas with that idea, he should read about Beal's experience, and realize that it's not a profitable adventure. Would be amazing to watch though.
JUNKO (glens falls ny)
NO GO REDSOX

Joe (Green Bay) [via mobile]
So, I tried to find out, but what's the story behind Allen Kessler? From what it seems he's just over-the-top quirky and complains a lot. Anything else?
Andrew Feldman (4:33 PM)
You got it.
anytruth to the rumor that a poker player is in the next edition of survivor, if so who do you think it is?
Andrew Feldman (4:35 PM)
I have no idea. My guess is a 21-year-old online pro...seems like the sort of persona Survivor would want...reserved and all about game theory.
What measures does the WSOP have in place to prevent underage players from entering events? What would happen if a kid used a fake ID and played, then cashed? Would he still get his money, or would they have measures to figure things out before he gets money? I have to think there are strict measures in place, since otherwise it could have hugely bad effects.
Andrew Feldman (4:38 PM)
The WSOP obviously takes things like this very seriously. When you make the money, your ID is verified a second time when you speak to the cashier. If everyone misses it and you get the money (and out of the casino), it's yours. That said, if you're caught, you're probably banned from the casino for quite a while and reported to the appropriate authorities.
Snoop (sitting next to green hat guy)
Your pick to win Main Event is????????
Andrew Feldman (4:40 PM)
Mike Matusow. Ok, really? Some guy we've never heard of.
Andrew,What has been your favorite WSOP ME final table to watch since ESPN began broadcasting poker?
Andrew Feldman (4:43 PM)
Not Jerry Yang's win. That was brutal in person. I've love the last two main events since I was there in person, then flew home in time to catch the shows on my DVR. Quite a cool experience. It's like being at at baseball game, getting home and watching the highlights. I'd go with last year's final table. All the excitement and hype around Ivey, the great intro created by 441 and the way everything played out was awesome.
Next to win a bracelet: Moneymaker, Raymer, Hachem, Gold, Yang, Eastgate, Cada?
Andrew Feldman (4:43 PM)
How much time has Ivey spent at 'The Ivey Room' since the Series started?
Andrew Feldman (4:44 PM)
He's been in Bobby's room a lot...the game still lives on there. He makes his appearances though...
Elaborate on the Yang comment if you would
Andrew Feldman (4:47 PM)
Sure. That final table wasn't exciting at all after the first hour and despite what you see on TV, the final tables drag on and on and on. We saw Jerry run over things for the first part, then watch nothing happen for the next few hours and then we reached a final four with zero personality and dry poker. There was nothing there to really keep my interest...I don't know, I just didn't love 2007...
Honest Question (via Twitter)
Who the hell is Kevmath?
Andrew Feldman (4:48 PM)
Haha, Kevin Mathers is the man. He is the ultimate fact checker for every poker site in the world as he reads everything and anything that is written on the game before it is even posted. It's quite impressive. He usually knows what I'm thinking, and corrects me on it, before I can even write anything about it
Andrew Feldman (4:49 PM)
Five minute warning....
jesus coronel (dallas tx 75211)
yes how do you get in mma for kids
Andrew Feldman (4:50 PM)
I don't even know what this means.
Joe (Chico, CA)
Stupid question. What channel and time is the Big Game-Loose Cannon show?
Andrew Feldman (4:51 PM)
Best place to watch it is pokerstars.tv. I've been catching up and watching them at once instead of each night for that very reason.
Kevmath ain't that great.Anyways, like the recaps for the FTs using all360poker. You should pimp them more.
Andrew Feldman (4:51 PM)
The videos are awesome and more of them, including Ivey's win with discussion by Barry Greenstein, are coming down the line.
Does Phil Gordon have any hint of athleticism? I know he's tall but besides maybe Prahlad and Lindgren, most poker pros strike me as awful athletes.
Andrew Feldman (4:52 PM)
He's pretty good at throwing beanbags. No, I'm not kidding. I can't imagine he'd be a bad basketball player, but I've never seen him. He is a sick golfer though.
Doc Gooden 1985 (Flushing NY)
Where Are They Now? Tuan Lam, Ivan Demidov, Dan Harrington
Andrew Feldman (4:54 PM)
Hiya Doc. Answer to your question, in order: No idea, no idea, probably at home. Harrington played a couple events so far this WSOP and I know we'll be seeing him at the main event. Action Dan! Best non-applicable nickname ever.
Andrew Feldman (4:55 PM)
Thanks for all the questions today everyone. Speak to you all on Monday! Have a great weekend.
