Mark "Guru" Garrow (2:57 PM)
Good afternoon one and all..let's get this partaaayyyy started!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (2:58 PM)
okay lkh means?
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, hope you are doing well bud. Prelim line-up for Bristol: 2-00-1-77? Thoughts for improvement, I'm taking the performance from the previous race into account. By the way, Dustin Johnson was robbed at the PGA last week.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:00 PM)
Now there's a team full of question marks...2 is going to be really good..00-1 look like top-15 to me and no telling what you get with Hornish.
Guru are the Fords running the new engines this week at Bristol.. Pre-Race Line-up 29-31-14-18-99.. What do you think Love ya
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:03 PM)
I think that is a really strong pre-race line-up...and I think all the Fords are committed to running the FR9 engine pretty much every week now.
mike p (danbury ct)
good afternoon mark,I really feel that the 99 will be great this weekend how do you feel about top five to mybe a win. also the 5, if i had to guess,mr h will throw the sink at this car to make it like last year were he qulify 2m and won the race. this is make or break for him to make the chase. how do you feel about that. do you see him contending to win. who is your pick for sat.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:08 PM)
I think you're right about the 99. I have him ranked fourth on my pre-race top-picks..The 5 car is another story...should be strong but might not finish that high, which is the story of his year. It's not make or break for Mark and his guys but the timing could be a little better. Martin is going to push maybe too hard and that usually gets him in trouble like it did at Michigan last week. As for Saturday...Kyle Busch and Brad K should put on a good show.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will win the Food City 250 at Bristol?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:10 PM)
Like I said anticipating it to be a grudge match between Kyle Busch and Bradk.
Ryan (Ventura CA)
Mark, With onlt one finish ouside the top ten since May. Could Smoke be a threat in the Chase?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:12 PM)
Yes, I think he can be a real threat but the longer he goes without winning, the more pressure he's going to be put a lot of pressure on himself and that could be good or very gad.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:19 PM)
Sorry little technical glitch..back on..and here we go again..
i knows it a little early to already have this weeks team ready but what do you think of mine it is the 24, 14, 18, 29, 1. who would you change and to who
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:21 PM)
I think for B drivers this week its 29 and 31...don't see it anyway else until getting to the track anyway. 14 and 18 should be good..24 is a question mark to me..always seems to score better finishes by and large in the spring at Bristol than the fall ..no explanation for that bue it is what it is.
hey mark, happy Wednesday, hope to see some good truck series action tonight at Bristol. Here's my question, I need one driver to go with a line-up, and only get to choose from the following: 88, 00, 20, 6, 47, 56 and 19...which one of those drivers should I go with?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:22 PM)
I like Martin Truex, Jr. in that bunch quite a bit..He was 12th back in March..and has scored the fourth highest amount of points on the short tracks this year.
howdy Mr. Garrow, who gets it done on Saturday night? I gotta go with Cousin Carl or Rowdy Busch, what say you guru?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:23 PM)
Well...you'll like my top-30 pre-race rankings I bet...so here it is.....1.Kyle Busch2.Kurt Busch3.Jeff Burton4.Carl Edwards5.Tony Stewart6.Greg Biffle7.Kevin Harvick8.Jimmie Johnson9.Jeff Gordon10.Denny Hamlin11.Ryan Newman12.Martin Truex, Jr.13.Clint Bowyer14.Mark Martin15.Matt Kenseth16.Kasey Kahne17.Juan Pablo Montoya18.Jamie McMurray19.Marcos Ambrose20.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.21.David Reutimann22.Brad Keselowski23.A.J. Allmendinger24.Paul Menard25.Elliott Sadler26.Scott Speed27.Reed Sorenson28.Regan Smith29.Bobby Labonte30.David Ragan
Well Mark, we held hands and took the plunge together on Sunday with using Kahne. I guess he didn't hear us screaming, "Come on, Kasey!" The bad news is that I no longer have any starts for the 9 car....The good news is tht I no longer have any starts for the 9 car.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:24 PM)
Amen to that Taylor...amen to that..
RAY GORDON REID ( MARTIN TENNESSEE 38238)
QUESTION TO MARK GURU GARROW GOOD WEDNESDAY GURU WHO DOES THE BRISTOL GURU HAVE THIS SATURDAY
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:24 PM)
Good afternoon Ray Gordon...I think it could get a little "Rowdy" in victory lane Saturday night..
How do you see the drivers on the chase bubble doing this weekend? You know know they'll be diggin', but will it be enough to earn big points?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:27 PM)
I think Bowyer, Martin, Newman and McMurray have the chance run top-10 and one of these guys could sneak a top-5...they are all pretty sporty at Bristol and should be a lot of fun to watch..
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:31 PM)
Got knocked off line again..sorry.
Toolman (Helena, Al)
Mark, Give me 4 drivers at Bristol out of this group: 16, 48, 99, 14, 11, 1, 29, 18, or 17.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:33 PM)
18,99,14,16 or 29...that should be a solid four or five for you.
What are your top 3 picks for the 2010 Chase???
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:34 PM)
At this point I'm becoming a believer in Kevin Harvick. I think he and Denny Hamlin will give Jimmie Johnson a run for the money.
When will Jeff Gordon win a race? Seems like the racing gods are against him. It was fun watching him go through the field after starting 36th at Michigan though.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:35 PM)
They have got to figure out how to close the deal. It's that simple. Gordon used to be the best "closer", but has lost his magic. There's no reason he hasn't won two to four races already this season..hard to understand since he and team are so good.
Toolman (Helena, AL)
Who in the chase today will not make the chase this year?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:36 PM)
In my mind..the top 11 drivers are in..Biffle is 11th with 193 point advantage over 13th place Mark Martin...So, I think the only position that has a chance to change is 12th and the currently sitting there is Clint Bowyer.
Andrew (Cole Harbor, NS)
Mark, do you think NASCAR will ever expand into Canada?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:38 PM)
Well, the Nationwide Series is now in Montreal and Jeff Gordon is really excited about the oval track that's being built now in Canada under his supervision. If that track is being built so it can be expanded and they don't cheap out in building it that might be the place for NASCAR to go oval track racing in Canada which would be pretty cool.
Guru I said it back many races ago 48 will not win the CHAMPIONSHIP this season. There are about 5 drivers that will give him fits. Roush, RCR are really making strides throw in the Toys and you have a great title race this season..
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:39 PM)
Easy girlfriend...just sit down and relax....lol...I like Jimmie but who doesn't want someone else to win the title?
Mark, do you see the 19 running well this weekend after last weekends good run?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:40 PM)
It's possible...Sadler loves Bristol..I mean really loves it..He was 20th in May and that team is running better, a lot better than it was then.
Jeff Burton's season hasn't exactly gone to plan, any chance he can rebound and end like he did last year?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:42 PM)
One...Burton will run top-10 this weekend...two..when the Chase begins he is going to be tough to deal with..He's super smart behind the wheel and with the kind of horsepower he's got under the hood with ECR engines Burton's got a fighting chance.
With Ambrose signing a mulit year deal with RPM do you think RPM will be around for the next several years? Additionally, how much better do you think the RPM situation is over his current ride. I have gotten the feeling that the 47 team is the bastard child of the MWR. Your thoughts? PS: It sure has been fun tickling the bear the last three weeks?you starting to run a little scared eating my dust?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:44 PM)
Keep poking the bear dude..just keep poking...lol....with RPM probably shedding two teams and consolidating to two teams I think this is going to be very manageable for them. Allmendinger seems to be the real deal and just keeps getting better. As for Ambrose he's not at the level of the guy he's replacing Kasey Kahne, but he had to leave JTG-Daugherty to find out if he could eventual get there.
Jenn (from D.J.I.C., NJ)
What tracks should I use my remaining 5 Junior picks on for the rest of the year? He is running so poorly & evidently doesn't care anymore, I am debating whether or not to use him at all anymore. He is a lower-class driver at this point.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:46 PM)
Well this weekend might be the time to take a shot, maybe the final shot. He was seventh at Bristol back in March and has finished top-10 in the summer Bristol race three times in last four years...after that he might be a good bet for Richmond and that could be it.
GURU, Just a short "side bar", what do you think of the changes in the 2011 schedule so far?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:48 PM)
First, I thought the way NASCAR was talking there would be big changes and what we've seen so far are little tweaks...Kentucky needed to be on schedule and Fontana needed just one race...Atlanta that was a toughie because I think the spring crowds were starting to come back and the racing there is great...I also think we need to end the season somewhere else other than Homestead-Miami.
Guthrie (Oklahoma City)
That Dale Jr. is one mighty fine driver, any chance he can overthrow Jimmy as the points leader this season?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:49 PM)
Easy...no sense kicking a dog that's already down...easy
Chris ((Ventura, CA))
Where do you think Jeff Gordon will break through with a win?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:50 PM)
It's hard to say...they run well at so many different tracks...As I said earlier that team has got to figure out how to close out the deal at the end of races. When and if they do, Gordon will be tough to deal with again.
Joey (Tampa, FL)
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:51 PM)
Did once already...where were you...and besides you can look at the full transcript and get it each ...but here goes again...just to make you happy..lol........1.Kyle Busch2.Kurt Busch3.Jeff Burton4.Carl Edwards5.Tony Stewart6.Greg Biffle7.Kevin Harvick8.Jimmie Johnson9.Jeff Gordon10.Denny Hamlin11.Ryan Newman12.Martin Truex, Jr.13.Clint Bowyer14.Mark Martin15.Matt Kenseth16.Kasey Kahne17.Juan Pablo Montoya18.Jamie McMurray19.Marcos Ambrose20.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.21.David Reutimann22.Brad Keselowski23.A.J. Allmendinger24.Paul Menard25.Elliott Sadler26.Scott Speed27.Reed Sorenson28.Regan Smith29.Bobby Labonte30.David Ragan
Do u feel a chase championship is comparable to the old one? I don't think they are prestigious and petty's, earnhardt's, gordan's waltrip etc.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:53 PM)
I hear what you're saying...they're different ...but the same...don't know any other way to say it...pressure to get it done in just 10 races has to be enormous...trying to beat guys you might have beat like a drum all year and then suddenly they're in even terms again..
Jimmy Johnson gets a lot of doubt as to if he is as great as the greatest. i think it is because he only has chase championships not like the others. Nascar in my mind did a diservice to him with that do u concure?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:54 PM)
Jimmie is underappreciated I agree mainly because there's really no one that has pressed him hard down to the last lap, of the last race..he needs to find the perfect "foil".
Mark, during the chase we see that the 12 guys competing for the championship are always...How could I put it...Pampered by Nascar. How does this conflict with the Have at it boys position of this year. And who do you think might be a chase spoiler that can win some races that is currenlty out of the chase Ex.. Mc Murray or Montoya.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:56 PM)
JP I don't know if they're pampered but the other drivers try not to mess with them too much..and "have at it boys" could make this year's Chase a little different no doubt about that..I think Montoya and Kasey Kahne have the best chance to take some wins away from the Chase guys.
GURU,These Wed. chats are great for pointing out what to watch for in practice and qualifying and the race day chats are Golden. That said, thought I would re-ask a question from Sun. Will the A group in the chase segment be the top 15 in points, so 31 and 29 are in the proper place?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:58 PM)
That's not up to me Richard. I have made that request and it has gone up the ladder at ESPN so we'll just have to wait and if they do that. I, again, think it would be wise move up two or three and drop two or three down from "A"..
The Kid (Reno N.C.)
I read your chats religiously but I still suck. What am I dewing wrong ?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:59 PM)
You just have a little bad "mojo" but keep at it and it will turnaround...I promise and while you're catching up this is still a lot of fun right?
The Red Bull is very optimistic about Vickers returning next year however the condition he has is kind of like Type II diabetes?once you have it, it only gets a little better but does not go away. To combat the problem a person has to continually take blood thinners every day, mostly likely the rest of his life. Don?t you think the NASCAR doctors may have a problem approving him for competition?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:01 PM)
Vickers keeps saying he's on schedule to comeback at the beginning of next year, but if he's on any blood thinning medication at all I've got to believe NASCAR doctors will take a dim view of that..then again if the dose is really small maybe I guess...
GURU,Don't know if the glitches wiped out this question the first time, if so, your thoughts on the announced schedule changes.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:02 PM)
Pretty sure I answered it Richard...I see it in the transcript...
Running short on options for decent B drivers in the yahoo league and am considering using JR. Do you think I'm crazy?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:03 PM)
Not this week..Seventh in may...top-10 in three of last four summer races at Bristol...he could be of help this weekend.
will jr. run decent
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:03 PM)
He could...certainly top-10 capable.
Do you think JJ will win anymore ?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:03 PM)
Of course...does a bear do his business in the woods?
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, so you see RPM eventually getting back to 4 cars?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:03 PM)
Not for the forseeable future.
Do you think Sadler stays in Cup next year?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:04 PM)
It's going to be hard for him to find a decent Cup ride at this point..don't see much out there.
I too would like to see someone else win the Championship besides Jimmy but, you have to realize that if you look at the history of the chase, it looks like NASCAR only used tracks that fit right into the 48s mold. If you take a look at the point history of the various drivers, Johnson?s record leads everyone else by a bunch. I wish they would put a Bristol and a road race into the chase to even up the score?your thoughts
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:05 PM)
Not just because of Jimmie but I think NASCAR should change out three to four tracks every year and rotate in others who can race that late in the year...mix it up and let the chips fall where they may.
ZACH (HAGERSTOWN, MD)
Hey Mark, thanks for answering my question.....what is the general feeling on the thought of Smoke sneaking away with his third championship this year? Not a win yet, but noone has earned more points since May other than Smoke besides Harvick. Able to real off 3-4 wins in chase? I think they are about to peak at the perfect time.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:06 PM)
Harvick is certainly peaking at the right time...Tony is getting there..but they have got to win a race to make him a serious threat in my opinion.
To JP(miami), the chase isn't about wins. If you finish 4th behind Montoya, Martin and McMurray, you still gain on the other eleven.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (4:08 PM)
Got to run...talk to everyone again this Saturday afternoon at 3:00 from the Bristol Motor Speedway. Until then have a great week and God Bless...The Guru has left the building!
