Jim McCormick (2:54 PM)
What's good everyone? Let's get this here chat started - if I don't get to your question try me on Twitter @JMcCormickESPN, that said - let's do this...
With the news of VJAX being able to play in Week 5, do you think 750yds and 7 TDs are out of the question?
Jim McCormick (2:57 PM)
So of course Vincent Jackson is a big story today as he had his 6-game suspension (really about his 3-game team-imposed susp.) reduced to 4 games. My guess, Keith, is that the numbers you're proposing are possible given the right landing spot. The tricky part of all this wasn't the suspension, but where he lands via trade and how quickly this gets done. I think this is certainly a positive what went down today - and if he lands in say Minnesota, where they have a specific need for him, then he could be a nice fantasy source. Lot's of ifs, though.
Andy Reid (The Moon)
Will my play calling ever improve or will I keep re-hashing the same old plays every season?
Jim McCormick (2:59 PM)
I'm a Philly native and resident so I know all to well the frustrations that come with Reid regime. In short, no, Reid's version of the "West Coast" offense is going to stay as long as he does, which seems like a while given his recent extension. Hey, there's always the Phillies.
any love left for Malcolm Floyd? Nanee looked pretty rad, but i drafted Floyd in 3 different leagues.
Jim McCormick (3:00 PM)
For sure there's love left - I believe Floyd was targeted 12 times and in the downpour the connections weren't there. In a dry game I think he nabs one of those short touchdowns. Have some patience with Floyd, Rivers will continue to look for him.
Kelly (CHicago, IL)
Hello, Jim. What's the deal with Nicks' ankle? He didn't practice again today and I am worried that I could lose him this week and might have to start Reggie Bush if needed. Should I press the panic button yet on Nicks?
Jim McCormick (3:02 PM)
No - it seems Nicks will be good to go given that he was in practice today - there was some confusion that he was listed as "out" on the pre-practice report but he was out there from reports that I've seen. You also have the luxury of Bush playing after Nicks - so check in before the Giants Sunday night game and make sure Nicks is a go.
Demaryius Thomas (Denver)
Am I worth stashing on IR?
Jim McCormick (3:04 PM)
I don't think so, Denver has a number of veteran options and I think the plan all along was that Thomas is a project that they hope to groom. In a keeper/dynasty format, sure, but not in a redraft league.
Who would be a good buy-low candidate if I'm selling high on McFadden?
Jim McCormick (3:05 PM)
Tough to say given the parameters of your league etc - I would look to sell if you can get a legit return - seek out an owner with a thin backfield and try to pry away a solid wideout possibly?
Kolb was dropped in our league. No-brainer to pick him up and drop Orton? Or are things still too up in the air with what will happen going forward with the Eagles suddenly controversial QB situation?
Jim McCormick (3:06 PM)
I would stick with Orton - not that Kolb couldn't regain lost luster when he returns. And there really isn't an internal controversy brewing - in the locker room there may be some shifting, but Reid and the brass will stick with Kolb for this season.
I think Crabtree is just going to cause me to bang my head into a wall all year? Would trade for Floyd be worthwhile?
Jim McCormick (3:07 PM)
I think you're selling a little low in this case, since Crabtree is coming off of a weak outing - why not give him a chance to put some numbers together this week before putting him on the market.
What's going on in the Seattle backfield? Is it time to give up on Forsett? Pete Carroll always uses committees. I can trade him for Vick which would help me out, but I know it's only for a 1-2 week period. But I need QB help.
Jim McCormick (3:09 PM)
If you would start Vick and he's a clear upgrade it's not a bad guy to pursue but I wouldn't pay Justin Forsett for him. I know it's extremely frustrating being a Forsett owner but that situation isn't settled, give it some time - even though it does seem like a RBBC. Go for Vick if you can, but not with Forsett as the bait.
That high on Orton? Would you rather have him as your backup then Vince Young? The ESPN updated top 200 still has Orton much lower....
Jim McCormick (3:11 PM)
I personally think that Orton is a valid matchup play QB, not a weekly starter. I just think that their defense will get him into the occasional shootout and by all account that's a passing team at this point.
Hey Jim, should I drop Grant for Vick? I already have Kolb and Flacco.
Jim McCormick (3:11 PM)
You should certainly drop Grant, and I suppose handcuff Kolb, man, this is a weird situation isn't it?
Leif (Los Angeles)
True or False, Brandon jackson is a better start this week then Ronnie Brown
Jim McCormick (3:12 PM)
True, Buffalo is a weak rush defense and Minnesota will key on the backfield and try to incite Henne to beat them.
Would I be nuts to drop Witten for Cooley?
Jim McCormick (3:14 PM)
Must be a small league? I suppose it's not nuts considering that I'll assume it's a shallow talent pool - I like Witten but he's spending so much time blocking and has never been a redzone target of Romo's. If you can, I'd try to roster both since they are solid fantasy starters at the position- but again, depends on your league.
What do you think of Jahvid Best for the rest of the year? Just bad in a lions Offense or will he turn it around
Jim McCormick (3:15 PM)
Yeah I think we'll see some ugly outings based on the offense and the fact that Best is a rookie - I do think he's a great matchup back to own and serves as a great third option or low-end second back in a deeper league.
Hector (McCormick Place (Chicago))
DEFENSE! Is New England for real? Thanks!
Jim McCormick (3:16 PM)
Not sure if they are real in the sense that you can start them every week - but against the anemic Jets' offense and with some bad blood between the teams - I could see them being a very nice option this week.
Deangelo Williams going to have a big week this week?
Jim McCormick (3:17 PM)
I would think so, he's in your lineup either way.
How worried are you about Moss's trip to Revis Island on sunday?
Jim McCormick (3:18 PM)
Worried in the sense that he'll have a below-average game? Sure, but I don't think he's certain to have a poor outing - he is certainly motivated specifically to challenge Revis - but I think they'll move him around and get him going - I'm hoping for a short score and 60 yards if I'm a Moss owner (which I am).
Zack (Little Rhody)
Yo Jim, how come your opinion isnt important enough to be included in the weekly rankings? Rather than answering who to start above who, wouldnt that be easier? That said, this week would you go with Donald Driver in the flex over Addai or Moreno if your opponent had Rodgers?
Jim McCormick (3:20 PM)
Tell you the truth Zack wouldn't it be just as confusing if our full staff posted their rankings - I think the way it works now is just fine - and these chats can serve as a chance to get a different perspective given that we all have different takes on what is happening on the fantasy market. That said - I'd rather have Addai in there - and I rarely care who my opponent has.
Jay (confused commish)
AJ for cadillac and pierre garcon has to be vetoed right? standard league.
Jim McCormick (3:21 PM)
Tell you the truth Jay - as a commish I never veto trades if both parties are honestly behind the deal. Only trade I ever vetoed was my two goon friends making a basketball/football swap that basically traded Randy Moss for Steve Nash, that was a rare case indeed.
Rank away then! Jacobs, Harrison, Hightower (assuming Wells plays)
Jim McCormick (3:22 PM)
Just using this as a reference for all of the Hightower/Wells questions coming in - if Wells is a go, which seems likely- then Hightower should be on the pine in fantasy leagues.
Is my dream of Run DMC becoming a breakout player this year officially over when Mike Bush comes back, is this going to be a 50-50 timeshare?
Jim McCormick (3:24 PM)
You have weird dreams Kyle, but I hear you - the wait has been quite long - but I'm no so sure his numbers from last week are indicative of his future performance - I do see Bush creeping into the work and thin DMC is about the best sell-high guy out there.
Would you drop D. brown for Jennings? At least Jennings getting in the game and would do more than Brown if Addai or MJD went down right? Thankspost your question or comment
Jim McCormick (3:26 PM)
I've read several times before that Peyton and the passing game just can't trust Brown given his issues with protection and blitz pickups - so I think he'll have trouble posting any value outside of an Addai injury. I think if you own either starter then back them up, but Jennings and Brown are very similar commodities - with Jennings getting a slight edge given the stronger dedication to the run in Jax, whereas if Addai went down- I'm not sure they just don't pass even more than they already do.
Does it pay to start garcon and collie both in my fantasy
Jim McCormick (3:26 PM)
I don't think that pays - would rather get more diversity in the lineup.
I have Romo and Austin on my team. With Colombo slated to play on sunday can i rest easy now?
Jim McCormick (3:27 PM)
With Austin you should rest easy already, and Romo will be fine as well - the line getting back to form will certainly help - but that DC defense is going to shut down their share of QBs this season.
Ian (Paris(the TX version))
Whats your take on Wrs like Megatron and Fitz with horrible qb play? Would you rather have a safer option like Colston in NO?
Jim McCormick (3:28 PM)
Not sure Colston is a "safer" option - both Calvin and Larry have proven to produce with subpar signal-callers - I would still value both over Colston, who is a nice option - but is subject to Brees spreading the ball around.
Hi, Jim. I don't think I have heard of you before can you tell me your background?
Jim McCormick (3:35 PM)
Well I enjoy late 80's video games and warm glasses of Jameson, oh, you meant professionally, ok - I've been with ESPN since Berry came over - was with his site for a few years prior, and I worked on a (non-fantasy) football magazine - Blitz - for a few years and contribute to the Washington Post online. I'm our resident IDP nerd and I work on general fantasy content as well. Back to fantasy questions - I'm boring. My bad guys - tech issues - I'm back - not that vain. But in any case -
Jim McCormick (3:35 PM)
I'll say late to make up for the wait there
what are you 3 most common mistakes fantasy owner make during the season?
Jim McCormick (3:37 PM)
Beside poor grammar? I'd say people love their own roster too much and don't see it as a fluid collection of stats - we are really just looking to maximize our production each week - and I think people are too attached too often to their team. I think active, trade-heavy leagues are the best because the power shifts and it's truly a market. Not sure I have three, but that's one take at least.
Matt Forte (Chicago, IL)
What do you think about me, Jimmy boy???
Jim McCormick (3:39 PM)
I think you are a great bounce-back option who will put up a nice total yards campaign - the TDs might not be as common as last week but in PPR format you are quite the commodity.
Landry (Washington DC)
Take it or leave it? I was offered Harvin for Best. My RBs are AP, Best, Bradshaw, and Felix. My WRs are Welker, Dez, Evans, Jacoby, Cotchery, and Amendola.
Jim McCormick (3:40 PM)
I value Best well ahead of Harvin.
Which Jets RB do you like this week in a PPR, Greene or LDT?
Jim McCormick (3:41 PM)
It's insane that this is the case in just Week 2 but in a PPR you'd have to say LDT until we see Greene hold onto the ball and take back a majority of the work.
I'm thinking about picking up and stashing Gresham as a backup tight end to winslow in my keeper league. Do you see him making much of an impact this year and in the future? The only player on my squad I would drop though is Hightower...
Jim McCormick (3:41 PM)
As far as a keeper league I would value Jermaine higher, Hightower is a nice veteran change of pace back - but not much else.
I was lucky enough to pick up Brandon Jackson, but I am pretty stacked at RB (CJ, Turner Charles, Greene) but hurting at WR (embarrassed to say). What kind of talent at WR could I get in a trade? Roddy White?
Jim McCormick (3:43 PM)
I can never assume what you can get - but if you can sell Greene or CJ for a solid number two wideout that would work - of go elite and move a Charles or Turner.
Had to stop for a snack Jim?
Jim McCormick (3:44 PM)
No, had to reset the signal. I feed at night mostly.
Anthony (Brunswick, OH)
Gaffney or Maclin this week? I liked Maclin @Detroit until I read ESPN projections have 15 for Gaffney vs Seattle and 5 for Maclin so now I'm confused
Jim McCormick (3:45 PM)
Yeah, I don't really track projections so much - but I do like Gaffney more this week, if only because I know he'll get a solid batch of looks (7-10 targets) while Maclin has more upside but we don't really know what we're getting with a Vick-led offense.
It's in the rankings, yes, but need a gut reaction - J Harrison or J Stewart?
Jim McCormick (3:47 PM)
I prefer Stewart this week - KC can be run on, but Stewart's history against TB is compelling - don't let that 12-yard outing blind you- that was a circumstance that Matt Moore's turnover display caused.
IDP..........I love all 4 of my LBs this week and am having a difficult time deciding. Which LB SITS this week? R.McClain(vs StL), J.Mayo(@ NYJ), J.Beason(vs TB) or S.Tulloch(vs PIT)
Jim McCormick (3:48 PM)
Matt at "work" - I assume the quotes are due to his managing his football teams during said work. I'd sit McClain this week - let the rookie force his way back into the lineup.
Karyn (New Jersey)
Will Mike Williams (WR-SEA) become a viable starter or is Jabar Gaffney a better possibility?
Jim McCormick (3:49 PM)
I like them both, honestly, but I like Gaffney for a more consistent season.
Dude, took Stewart over Charles. Talk me down off the ledge. Please.........
Jim McCormick (3:50 PM)
Yeah, that's tough - Charles was sensational last season and I'm not sold that Jones really hurts him so much statistically - maybe keeps him fresh? In any case - Stewart will have his games - always has, be patient - it's very early, even if that doesn't help, it's true.
IDP question....Revis scored a whopping 0 points for me last week....but I'll consider that part of what happens when you hold out as long as he did. That said...is Revis worth starting each week....or will QB's just simply not look his way...making his chances for INT's and tackles go down to the point where he shouldn't be owned?
Jim McCormick (3:51 PM)
No - Revis isn't a valid fantasy source - like you said - he's avoided often and given the lack of discipline across the field with Cromartie - I think we'll start to see the 10-on-10 thing we've witnessed in Oakland for some time.
Looks like the ESPN experts disagree on Dez Bryant this week. Any thoughts? Do you think he is a viable #2 in a few weeks if not right now?
Jim McCormick (3:52 PM)
I think Romo certainly wants the kid to get his touches - which helps. I think he's more of a viable #3 at the time - and not a secure one just yet. But the upside and attention are there for him to excel.
Fred Jackson or J. Harrison in the flex spot this week?
Jim McCormick (3:52 PM)
Harrison, I don't really want any part of that Buffalo offense - with Spiller having upside but not much current value.
Rick (City by the bay)
What's your thoughts on the situation in philly? Do you think if vick does well this week and maybe next week that kolb will lose his job?
Jim McCormick (3:54 PM)
No, touched on this earlier. This is Kolb's gig for this season - they invited this scenario by toggling Vick in and out so often, but I do predict a circus ensues. Sports radio in Philly right now doesn't even know who Cole Hamels is.
W. Mcgahee (Baltimore, MD (For Now))
Hey Jim, what do you feel the chances are of me getting traded to Green Bay? I have alot left in the tank and would be a top 10 fantasy RB with the Pack. Will I be taking my talents to Green Bay?
Jim McCormick (3:55 PM)
We don't see a ton of in-season trades go down, mostly it's a draft weekend thing - and I really can't see why Baltimore would disrupt a productive backfield that has struck a really nice balance. How about another mercurial Buffalo first-rounder - Marshawn Lynch - he's much more likely, if anyone is, to be moved.
I see you are not high on Hightower this week. Would you play D. Bowe in your flex spot instead?
Jim McCormick (3:56 PM)
Yes - again - I like Timmy if he's the sole guy - but with Beanie in there he's a third down back with some PPR punch - Bowe will rebound nicely.
Your thoughts on if DeAngelo and Stewart both stay in Carolina after this season...
Jim McCormick (3:57 PM)
Stays the same? I mean - they are two very good backs in a system designed to run and keep the clock running. If they can find some balance with the passing game not sure anything need to happen.
What is that guy smoking that he thinks Mcgahee would be top 10 at GB? This is the guy that had net -2 yards and a fumble on like 8 touches this week.
Jim McCormick (3:58 PM)
Matt - that was clearly Willis McGahee trying to up his trade value and finally move to Wisconsin, and I can't confirm what he was smoking.
My husband made me play ff this year.. 1st timer need help. Which WR is the odd man out in PPR: R Moss, Boldin, Nicks, or Bowe? thanks Jim
Jim McCormick (3:59 PM)
With Nicks looking like he'll go - I'd sit Bowe - who I just said I like but I'd rather take the risk with Moss than with him. Glad you joined us nerds - this hobby will get you, just saying.
Yo Jim, If you had to start a RB would you pick Peyton Hills or Cedric Benson?? I need your expertise
Jim McCormick (4:00 PM)
Ced Benson - hands down. The guy will be fine, Hillis remains a deep league play, and if his fumbling continues he could lose value all together.
Joe (New York)
Over Under 8.5 pts for Beanie this weekend?
Jim McCormick (4:00 PM)
You do realize that none of this woman are really women, what man in his right mind would want his wife to play fantasy football??? This week, Arian or B. Jackson?
Jim McCormick (4:02 PM)
Solid analysis Bob from Orlando, and I'm sticking with Foster over Jackson - BJ has the better matchup, but I still prefer Foster given that we know his role and he'll get the looks at the goal line.
Trade Arian Foster to get Reggie Wayne in a .5 PPR vacuum?
Jim McCormick (4:03 PM)
They make .5 PPR vacuums now? I thought my Dyson was sweat...I would move Foster to get Wayne, yes.
I'm still creeped out by Kameron.
Jim McCormick (4:04 PM)
Yeah you are.
Yes, I really am a woman, and its very satisfying when i beat the men...Aromashadu a # 3 WR? What happens with the Bears WR corps?
Jim McCormick (4:06 PM)
See what impersonating a woman gets you - but really, I would say that Mr. Aroma is a nice #3 in a PPR league - I think he's the possession guy - lots of targets and receptions but short on big plays and scores. I think Knox is the homerun threat and most of the value will be with Forte when Cutler's not doing his best Delhomme impersonation.
Roll with Cincy D this week or pick up Oak?
Jim McCormick (4:07 PM)
I treat kickers like defenses - by that I mean I pick the best matchup - not that I make fun of them in the locker room and isolate them in the social structure of the team. In this case - I like Oakland at home against a rookie versus a solid Ravens attack.
If you get the wife involved, the football watching argument is moot. Come on, man.
Jim McCormick (4:08 PM)
Not sure if Rob is for or against this concept, but it's an inspiring topic.
people need to stop asking player A or B position questions. check the weekly rankings. Should I trade Steven Jackson & Zach Miller for Colston and Vernon Davis? Ward is my #1 WR.
Jim McCormick (4:09 PM)
Well - if people stopped that then I would do is answer questions about trades and wives and what not - regardless - I think you are selling low on Jackson - he'll improve his stock this weekend and then maybe you can reconsider the market.
PPR league, with return yardage points. Who sits this week: Nicks, Harvin, or Best? Thanks!
Jim McCormick (4:09 PM)
Harvin sits for me - I like him as a flex/third wideout - but prefer Nicks and Best.
hey jim, thanks for chatting - 2 flex q's for wk 2, different leagues: welker or forte? and foster or smith(car)? Thanks!
Jim McCormick (4:11 PM)
Forte - despite the fact that Welker put up 15 receptions in a game against the Jets last season - I just prefer the tailback in most cases (which sounds super weird when you read it again) - and Foster.
Would you trade Portis for Jacoby Jones or Knox? I already have four good RBs in AP, Daily Show, Foster, and Forte.
Jim McCormick (4:11 PM)
Portis is the feature back in DC, not that he'll necessarily be profound, but you should get a more solid and proven return.
What is your take on the NY Jets WRs? Who do you want?
Jim McCormick (4:13 PM)
I want to not own any of them. Possibly Holmes, given his discounted value - but other than that Edwards made several mistakes on MNF and I just don't like trusting the kid from Entourage to man my offense.
Jim McCormick (4:13 PM)
Two more - then I'm out.
Bharath (New Jersey)
David Garrard or Chad Henne?
Jim McCormick (4:14 PM)
Garrard, both this weekend and going forward.
1st time playing fantasy football. I won week won but barely. I had Ryan Grant, so I need a new RB. What could I get for Andre Johnson, could I get a decent RB and and decent WR?
Jim McCormick (4:16 PM)
If your question didn't include Ryan Grant/Brandon Jackson or Arian Foster's sell-high status then you just weren't trying hard enough.Jonny - I don't think that the loss of Grant means that you have to rush to sell AJ, it's a season and NFL climate where there are more running backs that get work each week - but less that are feature guys - meaning that you would be best served going out and seeking a Jerome Harrison or Shonn Greene at a low price versus selling your best remaining talent.
Jim McCormick (4:17 PM)
Take care everyone, fun chat - if you have any more questions hit me up @JMcCormickESPN and if you are an IDP disciple check out D Up! on Fridays. Good luck this week.
