Good afternoon everyone...let's get his partaaaayyy started!
hey Mark, are Jeff Gordon and/or Tony Stewart good picks for sun day's race? If I remember right, Tony got the pole and was a top 10 car until he got wrecked out, and the 24 led the most laps and should have easily had a top 5 car if not for the same wreck that knocked Tony out, right? I just want to know if they're good picks this weekend, and if not, who are better options...thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:02 PM)
I think both Jeff and Tony could be good picks this weekend Daniel..but I like Hamlin, Johnson, and Kyle Busch a little better as well as probably Biffle and Kenseth...The problem I have with Gordon and it's something I talked with him about last week is that they seem to start a season running well, on the verge of winning, and then tail off a little bit at the end. If you look at how Jeff's run on the 1.5-mile tracks he was definitely stronger earlier in the year.
mike p (danbury ct)
good afternoon mark, the mac man dropped me from 2 to 6 140 out of the lead, big questins should i still keep harvick for homestead, were he might just have to win or a top five finsh to win the championship?also texas you told me to go with either 14 or 31 phonix who ever we dont use for texas. i also have the 20,5,33 tell me what you would do for these three tracks, i need help, martin is hot the 20 is hot and 33 on a mission .pick one driver per track also i think we are on the same page with harvick if not slide somebody else in his place?thanks think a little deeper into the guru ball ty.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:07 PM)
14 and 31 have begun to worry me a little bit lately Mike. Both run well inside the race but when you look at the finish they are down the running order and it just doesn't match up. Given McMurray's prowess on the plate tracks last year thought he was safe and hold on to Harvick...if I was going to come off 31 and 14..would have to give serious thought to 33 who's been fourth and seventh in last two fall races at Texas...Martin might then get kicked over to Phoenix...Harvick at Homestead..On paper I think Stewart's your pick for Texas..but nothing seems to be playing out on paper well these days so keep Bowyer in mind.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will win the O'Reilly Auto Parts Challenge & the AAA 500 at Texas?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:07 PM)
Kyle Busch Saturday....Denny Hamlin Sunday.
When making your rankings for the week, how much do you weigh the chassis info, and does it scare you to pick a driver that is bringing a chassis with 500 or 1000 miles on it? For example, would you prefer Biffle this week because he is bringing his winning Pocono chassis, or Burton, who is debuting a new chassis? Do you have any worries that Biffle would have more of a chance of blowing up? Thanks!
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:10 PM)
Mike as close as these chassis are these days not much difference if "used" or new...Used can mean it's race proven...new can mean it's latest and greatest and a little lighter than the previous chassis...As for engines blowing up FR-9 has had a few issues and being a newer engine than the chevy, dodge or toyota's that is a little bit of a question mark and will be until they get a little more development done..Still, the new Ford engine seems pretty reliable.

QUESTION TO MARK GURU GARROW HOWDY GURU WHO DOES THE TEXAS GURU HAVE FOR FORT WORTH SUNDAY
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:10 PM)
Listen up everybody...Ray Gordon is in the HOUSE!...Hamlin could be hamming it up in victory lane.
Nick Rolando (Orlando)
Mark, pre-lim for Texas is 11-00-33-98, should I switch out the 18 for the 11 and/or the 17 for either the 00 or the 33?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:11 PM)
I'd keep the 11 Nick and ditch 00 for the 17, keeping the 33...both 17 and 33 have more potential upside this weekend in my opinion.
Hello Mark, Is a Roush car a good bet for this weekend? There was a point when they were so dominant?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:13 PM)
Wes, they aren't as dominant obviously as they used to be but since Chicagoland they have been running pretty strong in the intermediate speedways led by Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle with a little help from Matt Keenseth. I have all three top-10 in my pre-race rankings.
Guru is Kasey a decent pick for this weekend considering Red Bulls 1.5 track history? Could you rank these: 83, 43, 88, 12, 98, 6
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:14 PM)
I think potentially Kasey could be a decent pick...here's my pre-race top-30 rankings to help with the other part of your question.....1.Denny Hamlin2.Jimmie Johnson3.Kyle Busch4.Greg Biffle 5.Matt Kenseth6.Jeff Gordon7.Kevin Harvick8.Kurt Busch9.Clint Bowyer10.Carl Edwards11.Jamie McMurray12.Ryan Newman13.Tony Stewart14.Jeff Burton15.Juan Pablo Montoya16.David Reutimann17.Paul Menard18.Mark Martin19.Martin Truex, Jr.20.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.21.Joey Logano22.Kasey Kahne23.David Ragan24.A.J. Paige Nash (Corbin Ky)
Who has the best chances of winning the chase, and does brad already have the championship from nationwide in his hands?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:30 PM)
I would still rate Johnson a slight favorite over Denny Hamlin and Kevin Harvick..but we're at a point where the tiniest little think could turn the deal upside down. If it is still tigh heading into last race Johnson will finally have to race at Homestead instead of stroke...as for the Nationwide Series title...It's all Brad easy-peasy lemon squesy...
Paige Nash (Corbin KY)
Trevor Bayne makes his debut at Texas this weekend... does his run at Texas effect if he is going to get a ride next year or is it already set in stone?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:35 PM)
He's already got a deal to run the Nationwide Series full-time with Jack Roush that is set in stone...what's likely to happy Roush will run up to eight Cup races with his team or farm him out to the Wood Brothers...He'll run eight to protect his rookie status for 2012...Then again, as lame as the rookie-of-the-year deal is on the Sprint Cup circuit this year that might not even play into Roush's plans for Bayne.
All Knowing-All Seeing-Prince of the Pavement, do you have any update from the RPM camp on their ability to run all three of the last races? Thanks.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:37 PM)
They've just got Budweiser straightened out. They made their final payment to the team and the Bud logo will be on the #9 for the remaining three races..with that in place pretty good bet all four cars will be good to go in the final races as well. Petty is still trying to get some financing together to buy out majority owner George Gillett and buy the team at a discount if Gillette is forced to walk away.
If Harvick loses the Cup title by 14 points or less, does Bowyer shoot himself for costing him that many points by winning at Dega or does Childress shoot him?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:41 PM)
No Bowyer doesn't shoot himself and no Childress doesn't shoot him either..A wins a win and neither Harvick or Childress expect Bowyer to roll over and play dead when he's got a chance to go to victory lane. If he went the other way and gave Harvick the win it would be no better than that mess in Formula 1.
Marybeth (Philly )
why do u have Mark around 18th? he hasnt finished outside the top 14 since louden. he finished in the top 7 in all 3 races w/ hendrick at texas. he is finally turning things around. have u noticed that he has the best avg finish w/ cot there.
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:44 PM)
Marybeth I don't disagree with any of your points, and what I've done with Mark lately is put him mid-pack and then move him up accordingly after looking at practice and qualifying in the race day rankings. I suspect I'll be doing that again a little bit at Texas.
Big T (wyoming)
Mark, in my league we have to pick one from Labonte, Kvapil, Gilliland, R. Gordon. I have picked Labonte the past two races and he has just killed me, any thoughts on which one of these 4 I should pick for Texas???
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:49 PM)
That's a toughie Big T...Kvapil has had a tough time making races..Gilliland and Gordon have a hard time finishing top-30..I'd probably stick with Bobby and hope..no make that pray...he doesn't do you in again.
Which team looks better?1) 48, 11, 29, 18, 24, 17, 1, 982) 48, 11, 29, 18, 24, 17, 20, 883) 48, 11, 29, 18, 24, 14, 6, 12
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:51 PM)
Chuck, I'm getting a better "vibe" from the first team listed..good luck.
Are you high on Menard this week, judging by your top 30 rankings?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:53 PM)
Yes, I very high on Menard..just don't know how high to put him..but should be a top-15 threat and a possibily a top-10 with a chunk of luck.
Mark, Your info has been very useful. I'm in second place in my league thanx in large part to you. i have Burton, Kenseth, Bowyer, Kurt B, and Edwards left to use. two of those drivers i have to leave out. Which drivers would you use at the remaining tracks?
Mark "Guru" Garrow (3:55 PM)
Kenseth or Burton feel like the pick for Texas..Bowyer maybe at Phoenix and Edwards at Homestead.
Mark is LaBonte running a Childress car again at Texas?
