A lot of stuff going on in the NHL. A lot of great games last night. GM's trading their won sons, maybe by the end of this chat I can get rid of Barry! ha ha
Travis Weaver (Columbus OH)
Also, with an impending lock-out in the NFL and NBA should the NHL be doing more to capitalize?
Matthew Barnaby (3:03 PM)
I think so. I really think this is the time with lockouts looming in other sports to really capitalize on our great game. We have some of the most talented players in the world and this is the time to strike.
Travis Weaver (Columbus OH)
Hey Matthew, The Blue Jackets beat the Kings last night at L.A. to give them their first home loss of the year. Big deal?
Matthew Barnaby (3:04 PM)
No, not at all. LA has a great team and especially a great goaltender. LA will be right near the top come playoff time.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Do you think that NY Rangers' Sean Avery Should have been Suspended for Punching Edmonton Oilers' Ladislav Smid in the Face?
Matthew Barnaby (3:05 PM)
I think he might have deserved a game but after watching it several times I just thought it was classic Avery being a coward and not fighting straight up.
Matt, love following you on twitter man. Great stuff. Anyways, we now have seen Malkin move back to center over the past few games and it is obvious he is extremely comfortable there. Well more so than at wing. Do you think it is in the teams best interest to get Jordan Staal to play wing with him upon return and let Staal handle defensive zone faceoffs? Thanks man, take care!
Matthew Barnaby (3:07 PM)
I think Malkin at center gives him more time and space. You want to have your best players playing with each other and Staal would be much better down low in D zone coverage. I think that they might go back to playing on three different lines.
What do you think of the disparity of penalties in games played in Pittsburgh?
Matthew Barnaby (3:09 PM)
That's a hard one. I don't think the refs intentionally try to favor one team or another. It's a fast game and sometimes superstars might get more breaks than an average player and Pittsburgh has two of those guys.
What do you expect from Marc Savard...does he make the B's cup favorites?
Matthew Barnaby (3:10 PM)
He makes them a more potent offensive team than what they are. The big question will be does he stay there or do they move him. My gut feeling is that he gets moved.
Matt, any word on Big Buff? saw he took one off the leg last night...
Matthew Barnaby (3:11 PM)
I haven't heard anything but that's 265 pounds of Texas prime beef. I'm sure he'll be ok.
Do you think they Avs will/should trade any of their young defensemen? They've got so many, but at the same time the club has no problems scoring goals. What could they trade for?
Matthew Barnaby (3:13 PM)
I don't think so. I really think they will stick with their gameplan and they will grow as a team with youth. A lot of teams try to retool too quickly and to me that's the worst think you can do.
Come trade deadline, whats your thoughts on the chances Brad Richards is moving to DC for Flieshman, picks and prospects? He would be an ideal second line centre.
Matthew Barnaby (3:14 PM)
I do not see Brad Richards going to DC at any point. That is definitely not what they need. They have an abundance of scoring up front and what they need is some help scoring on the back end.
Any ideas as to why the Pens don't seem to want to shoot when on the power play? It cost them the game against the Rangers on Monday by going 0-6.
Matthew Barnaby (3:16 PM)
If I had one problem with their power play it's either they try to force something and that they are to predicable. They should really watch Detroit move the puck around.
My Wings are the best team in the league right now, right?
Matthew Barnaby (3:18 PM)
I like them a lot. To me they have absultuly everything. They have the best group of forwards, solid D with Lidstrom playing some of his best hockey and a goalie that is making a name for himself. They don't have a bad coach either. This team will compete for the Stanley Cup.
Matt, love or hate the guy, Avery is an effective player down-low, on the forecheck, and gives full effort on every shift. Yet, he's only getting 4th-line minutes. Has Torts lost favor in him?
Matthew Barnaby (3:20 PM)
Yeah, I don't think Tort is a big fan of Avery. I also think that Avery, when given the ice time has responded with good production. He can be a valuable piece to any team; he just hasn't shown it this year.
Anthony (Kenilworth NJ)
Don't you think it's time for Bettman to leave the game, it's about 15 years now and who would you like to see a commissioner?
Matthew Barnaby (3:22 PM)
Wow ...I say myself! I would love to have a cushy job, travel around watching hockey games and making a ton of dough. No honestly, I think they have done a great job fixing a lot of problems with the game and made a great product on the ice.
Matthew Barnaby (3:24 PM)
Enjoy the week of games. Have a great Thanksgiving and good luck to all you teams. I also apologize to all those Islanders fans that got their hopes up. Have a great week. Follow me on Twitter @MattBarnabyESPN.
