Matthew Barnaby (3:01 PM)
Trade deadline is just a couple of weeks away. We're going to find out who's going to be buyers and who's going to be sellers. Let's go!
Will the Pens make any big moves at the deadline or will they just scrap this season with the losses of Crosby and Malkin?
Matthew Barnaby (3:02 PM)
I think they will make a big move at the deadline. Shero has always been known to make big moves and I think he will once again make a move with all their injuries.
Which team in the East should the Flyers be the most worried about?
Matthew Barnaby (3:03 PM)
I would say Boston. They have balanced scoring and a defense with Chara on it.
What would have happened, say in 1995, had Matt Cooke knee'd or boarded Pat Lafontaine?
Matthew Barnaby (3:05 PM)
He would have taken about 15 of my right hands to the face. And once I was done with that I would have used my left.
Richard (Greensboro, NC)
What's up with Carolina lately? They really are not playing as well as they had been before the break.
Matthew Barnaby (3:06 PM)
They caught on a streak right before the break. I think they go away from paying attention to those little details that they need to follow to be successful.
Thoughts on the Devils? What do you think will happen at the deadline with them? And do you think they have a realistic shot at the playoffs?
Matthew Barnaby (3:08 PM)
I don't think so. I think when you look at this team, they are playing much better hockey but it is so hard to make up the kind of points that they have to make up. I look for maybe a Jason Arnott to be moved as we get closer to the deadline.
What do you think of the Bruins this year, and do they have the talent to win the Stanley Cup?
Matthew Barnaby (3:09 PM)
Yes I do. I think they can use another forward or defenseman come deadline but when you have a goalie like Tim Thomas you can absolutely steal a series. And I think they've shown lately that they are tough and will stick together.
Nathan Horton (Boston, MA)
Finally I find the back of the net and also add 4 assists for a 5 point night. Can fans expect me to be this good the rest of the year after a disappointing season thus far?
Matthew Barnaby (3:10 PM)
(Laughing) Well Nathan, nice of you to write in. You got off to a great start but then got away from your work ethic but it seems like you've gotten in back in the last month.
What did you think of the goalies scrapping with each other this season?
Matthew Barnaby (3:12 PM)
I absolutely love it! I think they are playing with passion in a league that is as intence as it's ever been. I'm just glad I never fought Brent Johnson.
Justin (Rochester, MI)
I predicted that Nashville would be a playoff contender this year. A legitimate playoff contender. Who or what has been the driving force behind these Preds solid run this season?
Matthew Barnaby (3:13 PM)
Their goaltending. If you look at the play of Pekkarinne he has given them a chance to win every single night.
Chris Drury (New York)
How am I getting paid $7 million a year to score 0 goals?
Matthew Barnaby (3:15 PM)
Well Chris, because fortunately for you in the past you proved you were a winner and an elite player. Unfortunately those days are gone but the checks keep rolling in.
I was lucky enough to catch the last 30 seconds of the Bruins-Canadiens game last night. I got to watch about 9 fights and I heard there was more! Is the fighting in hockey more for show or are the players really mad and want to fight?
Matthew Barnaby (3:16 PM)
Most of the time guys are really made or they are defending their teammates. There is the odd time when it is for show but most of the time guys are trying to hurt each other.
Philippe-Olivier Chartrand (Montreal)
Do you think Boston Bruin's Gregory Campbell should be suspended for hitting Montreal Canadien's whit his elbow pad ?
Matthew Barnaby (3:17 PM)
No. it was a fight and the elbow pad came off. I don't thin he was trying to maliciously hit him with an elbow.
Steven (New Jersey)
Do you think its possible for the Rangers to pass the Pens in the division by the end of the season?
Matthew Barnaby (3:19 PM)
I don't see it but right now with the injury and suspensions problems with the pens, anything is possible. The Rangers main concern is to play well and make the playoffs because they haven't been playing well as of late.
Why can't the NHL admit that hockey isn't working in Phoenix and move the team back to Winnipeg or Hamilton?
Matthew Barnaby (3:20 PM)
I'm sure there will be a couple of teams moving in the next few years. the are very diligent in making things work but I do think they as well as a Florida team and maybe Atlanta will be moved.
Mustard (Kingston, ON)
Afternoon Matthew, so big trade for the Sens. I am not a fan but they get some nice picks and cap relief. What are your thoughts?
Matthew Barnaby (3:21 PM)
Absolutely a great trade. They got a lot in return for Mike Fisher. This is a team whose window for a championship has closed and this is a great start toward rebuilding for that championship.
what are the chances that sid will never be the same player? i hope crosby comes back better than ever cause he is the best
Matthew Barnaby (3:23 PM)
Crosby is the best player in the NHL. I love the way Pittsburgh is handling this, with a lot of caution. We've seen players come back too soon and because of it careers are threatened.
Will the Sabres trade Drew Stafford? He is in the last year of his contract right?
Matthew Barnaby (3:24 PM)
I think it comes down to the trade deadline and they see what their chances of making the playoffs are. New ownership will reevaluate and reassess everything. If they feel they won't make the playoffs, its open market.
Do you think all 5 Pacific division teams will make the playoffs? 4 of 5?
Matthew Barnaby (3:25 PM)
No I don't think all five will make it but it is a very strong division. but coming into the last two months of the season they play each other way to must and by process of elimation, one or two team will get knocked out.
Hardest question all day - who serves the best wings in Buffalo? While I'm asking - pizza too?
Matthew Barnaby (3:26 PM)
By far, Lanova! Great wings, great pizza, great family!
Matthew Barnaby (3:27 PM)
Hope you guys enjoy your teams over the next two weeks. Some of you will be happy and some of you not so much.
