Great to be back with you to talk hoops, baby! Today is a very emotional day as I am speaking at the funeral of Adrian Littlejohn, who passed away at the age of 15 months old due to cancer. We must beat this dreaded disease. Please try to help us, so call 1-800-4-JIMMY V.
Joe (Miami,FL) [via mobile]
Good morning! A big fan of yours. I would like to know what you feel about Miami getting Jim Larranaga as head coach? Thanks!
Dick Vitale (11:04 AM)
Great choice. He will bring a lot of experience and has a lot of energy. You have to win down there since there are so many activities going on down there like the Heat. There has been apathy on campus for basketball compared to football and he can chaneg that. He has knowledge of the ACC. It was a good hire for the Hurricanes.
Ray A. (San Francisco, CA)
Do you think the WCC can be a power conference next year? I could see BYU, Gonzaga, St. Mary's, and Santa Clara(Won CIT) all making the tournament next year.
Dick Vitale (11:05 AM)
I don't know about power conference but BYU does add a lot of basketball stature to the conference. It was already a pretty good league.
Jeremy H (Minneapolis)
Dickie V, Do the Tarheels have a chance at going undefeated next season?
Dick Vitale (11:08 AM)
Yes, they do. Nobody has beaten them yet. Seriously, it will be tough because teams get fired up when they see that jersey and give them their best shot. Nobody has gone perfect since 1976, when Robert Montgomery Knight led the Hoosiers to the title.
Dick Vitale (11:08 AM)
With the three-point shot, it is so tough to go through without an L. You have an off night and it is upset city.
Luke (Tiffin, OH)
How concerned are you in Mike Brey's NCAA track record? He wins the Coach of the Year Award - and deservedly so - but then gets bounced in the 2nd round. He's only been to the Sweet 16 once ... is this a problem for Notre Dame??
Dick Vitale (11:10 AM)
The talent level has not been where they should go beyond. I thought he did very well this season and everyone should have the success that Mike Brey has. Too many people evaluate the season based on the tourney. If he went 15-11 or so int he regular season but got to the Sweet 16 is that a success? He has done a very good job with the Irish.
Chioke Hassan (Baltimore,Md)
Dear DickCould you see Jimmy V making the Hall of Fame?
Dick Vitale (11:12 AM)
He is a Hall of Famer in the game of life. We should all make an impact the way he has for generation after generation with raising over $100 million for cancer research. His impact and legacy is not cutting down the nets in 1983, but what he did to help raise awareness for cancer research. Enough said.
Eric (Provo, UT)
How do you see the MWC doing this next season? With BYU leaving and SDSU having leanord leave? Do you see UNLV coming back with Dave Rice?
Dick Vitale (11:13 AM)
It will probably go a step down. New Mexico could be a team to keep an eye on too. It will be interesting to see how UNLV does with Rice and he made a great move by bringing Stacey Augmon back, joining his staff.
Sam (New York)
DICK V BABY!!!!! What is with NO hype for Cuse this year? I mean I know i they will pre season top 5 but i don't hear anything about them! Only Rick Jackson leaving and then you have down low Center Fab (with some offseason work he will really improve) Power Foward Kieta, Gaurds Scoop, Triche, and Kris, and on the bench down low you have Christmas, and at gaurds you have Dion Waiters, Carter Williams, and C.J. Fair, and Mookie Jones. What do you think Dicky V???
Dick Vitale (11:16 AM)
I think Hall of Famer Jim Boeheim will have a very good team next season. They will be loaded as that is a great class coming in. We have to see about Waiters. Scoop Jardine and Kris Joseph will make lots of noise in the Big East. There is no doubt Syracuse will have top 10 talent.
Did Alec Burks make a mistake entering the draft?
Dick Vitale (11:18 AM)
We don't know yet but I would have loved to see him come back top school. If he is not a first-rounder then he would have made a mistake. He could have had a big year next year. You also have to look at the labor situation in the NBA and see if these kids would have been better off in school. There is a possibility some of them can still come back to school if they didn't hire an agent.

do u think the new nba draft commitment deadline will help college basketball to the elite status as it was before we entered the 21st century when we actually had great players in schools? finally i must say that college basketball is very hard to watch now. thank u.
Dick Vitale (11:20 AM)
What will help the college game if we had the baseball rule and kids have tio stay in threwe years. The new rule is a disgrace. Having to decide by April doesn't give a kid a true indication of what his status is. I think it should be May 15th. I think that new rule is a sham.
I lost my mother at the young age of 61 to Lymphoma. You are doing a great job raising funds for cancer. Keep up the good work.
Dick Vitale (11:22 AM)
Thank you very much. We our proud that our event in sold out. To go over our major numbers, fans need to make donations. Just test to Jimmy V. tonumber 85944 to donate $10. You can be part of our team be donating.
Luke (Tiffin, OH)
Thanks for answering Dickie V!! You bring up a great point in your response. What determines a successful season?? Does it depend on the goal of the team prior to the year? In other words, should Duke and ND be held to different standards due to talent level/prestige/etc? I love Mike Brey, but I also think he has had enough talent to at least get to a Big East Championship game and/or a couple Sweet 16's.
Dick Vitale (11:23 AM)
It is an interesting topic.
What do you think of Brad Brownell..he did a good job at Clemson?
Dick Vitale (11:25 AM)
I thought Brownell did a very good job there and he recently received a contract extension, so I guess the administration agrees with me. The Tigers made the big dance and played North Carolina very tough at the ACC tournament.
Cheesehead Sports Nut (Chicago, IL)
As a UWM fan I appreciate how Bruce Pearl helped put UWM on the map. After the horrible end to his tenure at Tennessee, if you were in charge of an up and coming basketball program, would you offer Bruce Pearl a coaching job?
Dick Vitale (11:26 AM)
We will have to see what the NCAA rules later in the year. I do not think he will be hired right away. I have respect for what he meant to the community and his charity work down at Tennessee too.
Nick (Syracuse, NY)
Should Brad stevens find a new home? With his young coaching talents i think he could be one of the greats if he finds a new program now that Matt Howard and Mack are gone.
Dick Vitale (11:27 AM)
Brad Stevens is happy at Butler. I do not think there is an opening right now that he would go for. What he has done there is incredible. Butler has become the gold standard for mid-majors by leading the Bulldogs to back-to-back national final game appearances. I am thrilled that he will be at my gala on May 20th as well. He is a class act.
Chad (Sarasota, FL)
The rumor is Brandon Knight will remain in the draft but, Terrance Jones will stay in school.. What does that do for a ky team that already soundly defeated the preseason #1 team in UNC in the Elite 8 w/o their vaunted class coming in with 3 out of the 5 top HS players?
Dick Vitale (11:29 AM)
We will know about the Kentucky kids in the next few days. John Calipari has a lot of talent coming in with Gilchrist, Davis and Teague. If Jones would come back and try to raise his stock even more, watch out. I think Kentucky could be right up there behind North Carolina.
Jeremy (Chicago, IL)
What is the one thing that you have to do before every broadcast?
Dick Vitale (11:31 AM)
Preparation is very important to me. I usually get to work on getting information on the teams before I call the game. I am very proud of my work ethic. I also do some voice exercises before a game as well.
Can anyone stop Jared Sullinger in the low post next year? Go Bucks!
Dick Vitale (11:34 AM)
Sullinger is going to be the best big man in the nation next season, I recently spent time with him at the Wayman Tisdale Award ceremony and he is a super young man. I think the Bucekeyes, with Sullinger, Buford and Craft, will win the Big Ten again next season.
Have you seen the UK recruits play? If so, are they really that good?
Dick Vitale (11:34 AM)
Yes I saw Gilchrist in person and he is the real deal. Very impressive and he will step in and fare very well right away.
Chad (Sarasota, FL)
Also, my Mom passed from Leiomyoarcoma, a very rare cancer in 1999 at the age of 48... We all really appreciate all that you do for Cancer research... My heart goes out to the Littlejohn family... Thank you so much for your efforts Dick; My Mom was a huge UK fan & loved hearing you call games in front of the BBN!... Keep it up Mr. V!
Dick Vitale (11:37 AM)
Cancer has affected so many people. Little angels like Johnny Teis at age eight, Lucy Weber at 17 months and Adrian Littlejohn at 15 months all left us too early due to forms of cancer. It is so heartbreaking. I hope people can help support us in the battle against cancer.Next week we will know which players are staying in the draft and which ones will be returning to college. I will talk about it in the chat next week. Take care.
