Tyler (Forsyth, Georgia)
Farrell When do you think Mickelson will win another major or will he?
I am sure the USGA will make changes, but what was your impression of Erin Hills, site of '17 US Open, and how it played this past week?
Farrell Evans (2:02 PM)
David,7,800 yards is too long for a golf course. Period. When the pros go there in '17, equipment will probably allow the players to hit 400 yard drives to keep up with the yardage if they play it from the tips.
Cheesehead Sports Nut (@CheeseheadSN)
Three Cheesheads on the PGA Tour eclipsed the $1 million mark in prize money this year. Stricker has done well the last few years so that shouldn't surprise anyone but Wilson (and Kelly to a lesser extent) have been impressive this year as well. The easy answer is to say Stricker finishes the highest in Cheesehead FedEx Cup points race. Do you think Stricker will finish the highest or will one of the other Cheesehead golfers eclipse Stricker?
Farrell Evans (2:07 PM)
Stricker is the best of the Wisconsin guys on tour. Jerry Kelly is a nice player but he's not in Stricker's league.
I recall that you were pretty high on Spencer Levin earlier this year. He's just outside the top 30 on the FedEx list now. Can he play his way into the Tour Championship?
Farrell Evans (2:09 PM)
Jeff, I talk to Spencer a lot. He was down a little last week after missing the cut at the Barclays. But as you know he's a fighter. I think he will play well this week, based on his performance this year. But he can't miss the cut this week if he wants to go to Atlanta.
Will the FedEx series ever have a tourney or two on the West Coast? Seems like there are weather issues (high humidity, rain, etc.) every year on the East Coast.
Farrell Evans (2:19 PM)
The Tour has a nice group of tournaments with New York, Chicago, Boston and Atlanta, all very good golf markets to attract fans for the playoffs. I don't see it happening any time soon.
I hear Philly Mick was messing around with a belly putter today. Say it ain't so!
Farrell Evans (2:25 PM)
It's about time. He's putted horribly all year by his very high standards. When you're desperate to get the ball in the hole you'll try anything. But he's such a tactician on the golf course, I doubt he's actually going to bring it out on Friday.
How is Mickelson going to incorporate the forward press?
Farrell Evans (2:28 PM)
Marc,I think you know that he can't possibly do that with a long putter. That would be a first.
Your thoughts on Couples picking Tiger for the PC...does he really think Tiger can help or is this Finchem pressure for ratings?
Farrell Evans (2:32 PM)
Jefe,I wrote a column about this after the announcement, where I was pretty hard on both Tiger and Fred. I still believe that it was the wrong choice. But I think Tiger will play alright and help the team. But there were more qualified people.
Mick's problems stem from strapping that Manzire a little too tight....Dude's gotta loosen up the straps a bit and let the babies breathe....
Farrell Evans (2:34 PM)
Jefe,Phil just said that he's probably going to use the long stick tomorrow. And that he just got it on Monday and that it's an exact replica of the one that Keegan Bradley uses.
Rememer that look Tiger gave Phil years back when paired together at the Ryder Cup? Unless Tiger really get's his stuff figured out, I think you're going to see similar looks from Stricker at the PC.
Farrell Evans (2:36 PM)
Jefe,Tiger is going to bad for anybody in alternate shot. In two-ball he has a chance--maybe.
Any comments from the players this week about the shape the course is in (good or bad)? Did Irene make any course changes ealier this week?
Farrell Evans (2:38 PM)
TPC Boston was not impacted by Irene. The course is playing pretty firm and the players like it because it always gives up a lot of birdies.
Exact replica of Keegan's? I guess Phil's putting from the right.
Farrell Evans (2:39 PM)
Bob,You're funny. It's the same putter, specs-wise.
Farrell Evans (2:40 PM)
It's an Odyssey.
Perhaps "mirror image" would have been a better description than replica.
Farrell Evans (2:42 PM)
Tom,You could say it that way but the point is that he's been very diligent about learning how to use the long putter from Keegan and anybody who uses one out here. Phil says the only difference between his putter from Keegan's is that his has a White Hot XG insert, while Keegan's got the regular White Hot.
What do you think changed in Kuchar's game that made him such a constant top-10 that past few years? Guy nearly disappeared in 2004-2005 and started playing real solid since the middle of 2008?
Farrell Evans (2:45 PM)
Kuchar rebuilt his swing a couple of years ago to make it flatter and he has become a good putter. He always played with a lot of confidence. Now he has the full game to match his good course temperament.
After not being picked up out of free agency. Former NFL power house Todd Collins discussed pursuing a career in his true love of Golf. what are your thoughts?
Farrell Evans (2:52 PM)
Buck,What's Todd's handicap?
If you believe it is the wrong choice, do you then believe that the Captain should not get two "Captain's Picks"?
Farrell Evans (2:55 PM)
Marc,The captain should pick guys who have played consistent all year and not skip 11 guys to pick Tiger.
Steve (Wash DC)
Do you see Dustin Johnson running the tables and taking the FEDEX cup?
Farrell Evans (2:56 PM)
DJ can muscle any golf course in the world, probably. And TPC Boston is an easy course for most of these guys, if you go by the past years. So I wouldn't bet against him.
have you heard the news about former nfl superstar todd collins trying to make a push for the 2012 masters?
Farrell Evans (2:58 PM)
How will Collins play in the Masters unless he goes to Q-school and wins a tournament before Augusta? The US Am has already passed.
Steve (Wash DC)
My opinion on the Couples pick of Tiger is that it was solely based on Tiger's ability to draw media and fans to the event which = CASH $$$ Thoughts?
Farrell Evans (2:58 PM)
Steve,You are correct and everybody knows it.
If Tiger begged off the Pres Cup he would've been ripped by a whole lot of people, and no superstar athlete has ever said no, bc they didn't think they were good enough (or deserved to be there). Gehrig was an injury issue
Farrell Evans (2:59 PM)
Shoshana,Glad to see you have come over to this side with me. You're right. I probably overstated that.
Better question has Collins heard of Jerry Rice
Farrell Evans (3:00 PM)
Or John Smoltz, who also played pretty bad in a Nationwide Tour event.
Farrell Evans (3:01 PM)
Hey golf fans,Time flies when you're having fun. I hope to see you next week to talk more golf at a time to be announced. Take care.
