Stephania Bell (3:02 PM)
Hello friends: I'm going to have to limit our chat today to 30 minutes due to dealing with computer issues the last two hours that have blocked my writing time. But there will be more in today's blog posting when it eventually gets out! So let's get to what we can...
Gordy Painter (Circleville ohio)
Good morning Stephania, I know it's early Mon am, but just wondering it you have any info/update on injury to my main QB Ben Roethlisberger???
Stephania Bell (3:04 PM)
Gordy: Way to get the question up early! By now you may have heard no fracture for Ben but a sprained left foot which may certainly affect his mobility, but at least at this point, doesn't look as if it will keep him off the field.
Please give me some good news with A. Johnson. How bad is the Hammy?
Stephania Bell (3:06 PM)
Eddie: Well, the good news is that we haven't heard the words season-ending. But there's still a lot we haven't learned. We know Johnson is consulting with other MDs so there's nothing definitive. My concern is if the injury is low, near where the tendon attaches, as it appeared to be based on his reaction, these are often slow to heal. And that means multiple weeks, how many we don't know. At this point, it simply means get insurance in your lineup and go from there until we hear more.
Any news on how Hernandez's availability for this coming week?
Stephania Bell (3:08 PM)
Jonny: No report on him and there won't be any clues until Pats start practice reports Weds. I still think this week will be a little early but won't have a clue until closer to Friday.
Hey SB, ur boy Gore had a good game despite not being 100%. Do u think he will b healthier this weekend? He seems to be better in the two running back system, wut do you think?
Stephania Bell (3:10 PM)
Drew: He did. He and Hunter were about even on fantasy points until late in the game. In that last drive, clearly Gore was the go-to guy. I never really thought he was going to lose out to Hunter, just didn't think you could count on him with certainty given how much the ankle was an issue right up until Sunday. It's amazing what adrenaline and a good game can do for you. I'm sure he's sore but after this week, I expect more Gore in Week 5 with Hunter, Dixon roles remaining relatively light.
David Cullen (Fremont)
Hello Stephania, I hope you are having a great Tuesday. I got a quick question regarding some injuries and who better to ask then you. Bye week is killing me and I need a solid WR or WR/RB. With Andre looking to be out a while is Jacoby Jones the best pick up for this week? Or is Redman going to put up decent enough #'s, there's no way I can start Ochostinko...
Stephania Bell (3:12 PM)
David: Jacoby Jones will be the targeted receiver and Kubiakl has already said he moves into Johnson's spot. I like Redman although I don't know how much I like him this week - but look at how they're using him already. He has promise. But right now, like Jones this week b/c he will practice all week in that spot, although Daniels is a beneficiary too in terms of targets.
Hopefully the first! Gates - another season of stress and last minute decisions. What is your view on him going forward?
Stephania Bell (3:15 PM)
Sean: First on Gates...but for all those asking. This is going to be a season of uncertainty. Supposedly making progress (consider this relative progress people) and TUrner says they will have him try and run and see how he does. Don't expect he plays this week, especially with bye in 6 and it will prob be touch and go all season
Stephania Bell (3:17 PM)
Kyle: The Steelers seem to think not too serious (hamstring) and are calling him day-to-day. You know how it goes with these by now. They see what the guy can do during the week and then grade the likelihood of playing near the end. Always a little nervous about a guy the first week back.
Thoughts on Marques Colston's production this year? Trade Mike Williams (TB) for him?
Stephania Bell (3:18 PM)
Mike: I think Colston will become a more valuable receiver than Mike Williams but it will take a few weeks. He only had a few catches this week and they'll likely increase his activity over the next few games.
igor (New York)
Stephania, do you think Moreno will play a bigger role on offense when he is healthy?
Stephania Bell (3:20 PM)
igor: I think he really has to prove something before that happens. They want to see him in practice, running and performing well on Sunday. McGahee and Moreno will likely continue to share but I don't think they'll trust Moreno until he does more.
How are Miles Austin and Daniel Thomas progressing from hamstring injuries. I know both are on byes this week, but any reason to part with either via trade?
Stephania Bell (3:22 PM)
CJ: Wouldn't part with either. While Thomas is of concern given that he just started to get hot before he got hurt, he's going to be their running back, but you may have to find a replacement for a few weeks. Austin they hope to have after the bye and we know what he can do, so I would hold onto him. As long as you have bench room, they're worth holding onto.
JB (San Diego) [via mobile]
Steph, why have this chat if you can never offer a straight answer and simply regurgitate the injury news on the site? Give Berry this hour.
Stephania Bell (3:22 PM)
JB: Stop coming every week and you won't have to worry about it!!!
Paul (Covington, KY)
Trade Andre Johnson for Jason Witten?? Is the hamstring injury serious enough to justify this ??
Stephania Bell (3:24 PM)
Paul: I'm willing to give Johnson 2-3 weeks because I think he's that valuable. However, that said, if I was badly in need of a tight end, I'd consider this. Witten is hugely productive right now and you get immediate value out of him. I'm not sure there's another tight end seeing as many targets.
Kelly (san fran) [via mobile]
Typical broad, have to start with a compliment to get an answer.
Stephania Bell (3:25 PM)
Kelly: Typical inappropriate remark, with no question.
Is Ryan Grant worth a Roster spot anymore?
Stephania Bell (3:27 PM)
Jason: Absolutely! He's been cleared to play and he had a great game right up until he left with a bruised kidney. The team was singing his praises as to how well he was running - don't think they forget about that after one week. While there is work for Starks too, I think Grant was starting to hit his stride after being out a year and he will be valuable.
Stephania Bell (3:27 PM)
It's a great day in my chat...
Insert Vincent Jackson update here.
Stephania Bell (3:29 PM)
Pat: Trying to get to the bottom of this one. VJax supposedly left with a "leg strain" created by compensating for his abdominal injury. Bizarre to say the least - and vague. Nothing sounds like the Chargers think he'll miss this week, expect another week of very light practice - maybe even a day or two off like last week - and then they'll hope he can do what he did this past week again.
So is the injury to Roddy White keeping him from being as good as he was last year? And is it time to see if you can trade high on him?
Stephania Bell (3:31 PM)
Brian: Have to believe that's part of the issue although he won't use it as an excuse. What's strange is the injury happened in the preseason and he had a spectacular final preseason game (granted preseason but still showed he could play). Then he seems to be struggling - and dropping the ball, which may in part be due to missed practices - kind of a vicious cycle. I still wouldn't give up. Think he gets it back in short order.
Any word on a potential calvin injury? took a pretty bad fall on that last td catch.
Stephania Bell (3:32 PM)
Henry: No word on injury - but I would not be surprised if he is granted a day or two off. I think he lands harder than anyone. But so far the ankle has not been an issue for him.
AJ with Nice Remarks (Miami)
How did Foster and Wells hold up this week?
Stephania Bell (3:34 PM)
AJ: I hear you...Foster - great - and they will be leaning on him going forward. Tate has a groin injury and while they hope he's able to be backup this week, they're not sure. And Ward still out. Wells apparently fine too. About time he had a game like that.
How serious is Henne's shoulder injury? There are reports surfacing it might be season-ending. Any truth to that? Thanks.
Stephania Bell (3:36 PM)
Bob: Based on who's reporting it, I think there's validity to the rumor. But not a foregone conclusion yet. Supposedly separated shoulder. It's his non-throwing shoulder but there's concern about landing on it and making it worse. There will probably be more internal discussion about it over the next few days but it sounds like it's a possibility.
Hi Stephania! Any news on Amendola?
Stephania Bell (3:38 PM)
Tom: Not good news. Setback with his elbow when he came to practice last Thursday. Last word was he was undergoing more tests but there was a possibility that it might translate to a shutdown. Nothing further from the team yet.
Thoughts on Hillis? Hardesty got a lot of action on Sunday. Is it a sign of things to come or the coaching just taking it easy on Hillis after a bad illness?
Stephania Bell (3:39 PM)
JB: Coach has now said they intend to get Hillis more touches. I think the notion there will be an even split with him and Hardesty is short-lived.
Stephania Bell (3:41 PM)
