KC Joyner (3:03 PM)
Good afternoon! Apologies for being a couple of minutes late. Let's talk some fantasy football!
Asky McQuestion (Clueless, USA)
This reeks of desperation but what do you think of Torrey Smith this week vs Houston with Lee Evans out?
KC Joyner (3:05 PM)
Not entirely sold on that, but the Texans secondary does have some weaknesses, so it might work out.
Your #1 Fan (I Think) (Virginia)
I've made some good trades this year but still started off 0-3. I'm now 2-3 but i am still weak at qb (Freeman and Tebow). Should i trade Bradshaw and Gore for someone like Brady or just roll with my team. I also have Turner and Rice. Thanks
KC Joyner (3:06 PM)
The upside of getting Brady would be more than offset by the downside of losing Bradshaw and Gore. Tebow should be good fantasy-wise and Freeman will get better. Stick with what you've got.
I traded R. Fitzpatrick & Legarrette Blount for Tony Romo
KC Joyner (3:07 PM)
If Blount's injury keeps him out a while and Fitz doesn't improve (and his schedule is fairly tough), that's a great trade.
Dr. Joyner... Best or Cruz in a .5ppr?
KC Joyner (3:08 PM)
SF has a really tough run D. Cruz is the better play. And please don't ask the question 100 times next time.
Cameron (Austin, TX BABY)
assuming BJGE doesn't start... Ridley/Delone Carter. What do you see the timeshare being b/t carter and brown?
KC Joyner (3:08 PM)
Ridley is the way to go. Carter and Brown will probably get a 50/50 split and Ridley would be a workhorse.
Kyle B (Miami, FL)
Decker's value if Lloyd gets traded? And, do you see Lloyd actually getting traded?
KC Joyner (3:10 PM)
If Lloyd gets traded and it isn't for another top wideout, that would hurt Tebow's value more than Decker's. Decker isn't a one-trick pony and does run routes on the entire tree, so his value isn't set by how well a WR on the other side of the field plays.
KC, why aren't you sold on Garcon yet?
KC Joyner (3:11 PM)
One of his TDs against TB was a fluke play where blocks in the back should have been called multiple times. And one game against the Chiefs just isn't enough to convince me. If he does well against a tough Bengals defense, that will be convincing.
Does James Jones become a reliable starter? Or were the last 2 games a fluke?
KC Joyner (3:12 PM)
Still more sold on Jordy Nelson than Jones.
in a vacuum... MJD for Gates and Mendenhall... which side do you like? I have MJD but is the risk too high on the other end of the deal to accept?
KC Joyner (3:14 PM)
This is just a guess with no inside info, but Gates's injury looks like something that isn't going to go away soon. He shouldn't be counted on as a dominant, full-season player this year, or at least it shouldn't be automatically assumed that will happen. MJD for Mendenhall is a fair trade, but the Mendenhall side is the one I'd want to be on.
What do you think of Brandon Marshall ROS? Matt Moore is QB, but some weak secondaries ahead. And will he really get himself ejected Sunday? If only that was a FF stat.
KC Joyner (3:15 PM)
That would be funny to see personal fouls penalties impacting fantasy football leagues! Marshall is still a short/medium pass target with some vertical skills. The schedule has some favorable points but also has a lot of unfavorable ones, so I'm not sold on Marshall being a great fantasy WR ROS.
TFS, is Cam Newton the perfect keeper at $1? YES WE CAM
KC Joyner (3:16 PM)
Of course he is. Check out this week's TFS article on the Tebow/Newton comparison for more details. In a nutshell, Cam is on pace to throw over 300 vertical passes this year, which would obliterate the 230 vertical passes Peyton threw to lead the league last year.
Tom (Trade Floor)
KC. HELP!!!!.. I through a trade out there in which I get Rivers and Bowe and sent Stafford and Boldin. Did I screw up???
KC Joyner (3:18 PM)
Probably not. Bowe is still a value and Boldin's value is entirely predicated on his not facing quality CB competition (he tends to disappear against top-rated CBs). Stafford is doing great but it's not as if Rivers is bad.
John (Mendham, NJ)
Seems you're a bit down on MJD. Stash Deji Karim now?
KC Joyner (3:19 PM)
It's more down on the Jaguars offense. They are run blocking well and he's hitting some home runs, but can he continue as the central point of that offense all season long? Stashing Karim makes sense.
stephen (los angeles)
49ers DST ROS? Worth stashing during next week's bye?
KC Joyner (3:20 PM)
Yep. They have some tough matchups after the bye but they also some very favorable ones. They are the type of D to give a big edge when the matchups are favorable, so those weeks could be wins on that alone.
Thoughts on Greg Little this week?
Would I be insane to play Little this week over Marshall and Moss?
KC Joyner (3:21 PM)
Let's keep Little in perspective, everyone. He's got 11 points this year. He's got talent and the Browns are getting better but putting him in a starting lineup right now is a risky proposition.
Bring back my SuperSonics (Seattle)
Dallas Clark worth a spot on Bench?
KC Joyner (3:22 PM)
He might even be a drop candidate. His YPA under Peyton had been dropping the past couple of years to a subpar level, so to see him really struggle with another QB is not entirely a surprise.
Bob Swerski ((Da Chicago))
Someone in my league dropped Manningham. Should I pick him up and who do I drop Ridley or Little?
KC Joyner (3:23 PM)
Little. As good as he might be, the Giants offense is much more explosive than the Browns. Manningham is not playing badly (even his coach backs that up) and he'll start to make a fantasy impact sooner rather than later.
Never got a Q answered by you KC...please? (California)
Im in a PPR league that awards 1 point for every 25 receiving yds (instead 1 for 10) and 7 points for touchdowns. I need three of the following this week: Santana Moss, Percy Harvin, Victor Cruz, Greg Little, Jacoby ford, Lance Moore
KC Joyner (3:25 PM)
Hey, glad to get your question in but word of advice for the future. I try to keep the questions moving as fast as possible to keep the dead time as limited as possible. Picking between six players makes that quite difficult and it is why I normally avoid these types of questions. Having said that, go with Moss, Cruz and Harvin this week.
Follow up (NY)
I just lost Blount. MJD needs to play big!!! NO Deji Karim!
KC Joyner (3:25 PM)
One vote against MJD.
Time to quit playing Percy Harvin? He's leaving a hole in my lineup every week...I'm playing Danarius Moore over him regardless this week...just wondering if I should expect to do that every week
KC Joyner (3:26 PM)
Probably not, if only because Harvin plays a bigger role in the Vikings offense than Moore will play for Oakland. The Raiders are getting their WR corps healthy again and that competition could keep Moore's contribution level down.
can you turn auto-update on so we don't have to keep refreshing?
KC Joyner (3:27 PM)
Consider it done!
Is Tebow worth dropping a Decker or Harvin for if you have decent WR depth and two top 10 QBs already?
KC Joyner (3:28 PM)
That kind of move has to be looked at from an overall value perspective. Tebow should post quality fantasy points for as long as Denver keeps him as its starter. Decker will post solid fantasy points (and maybe better), so keeping Tebow over him is a good move.
Is there any news for Ryan Mathews?
KC Joyner (3:29 PM)
He's off this week so don't expect a lot of news.
If you dont want people to post question 100x, then why do you answer, encourages the behavior by acknowledging it? Best for Bradshaw, what side would you want to be on?
KC Joyner (3:30 PM)
Did it to remind everyone not to do that (hasn't happened since). Tough call on that one, would probably take Bradshaw if only because Best has a history of injury woes and that could recur.
Jimmy N (Arlington, VA)
K Sidge, im a REGULAR! I'm always timely with my SAAGE jokes. Can a brother get his question answered? One of M. Crabtree, T. Young, D. Driver, or Bernard Scott in the flex? Thanks.
KC Joyner (3:31 PM)
Jimmy, your questions are always a top priority! Tough call on that question. Would have to go with Young.
Mike (San Diego)
KC, your start/sit charts...who are your top 5 WRs for this week? If you can't throw that out there, I completely understand.
KC Joyner (3:32 PM)
Don't mind doing that at all. Top 5 WRs on the TFS start-sit charts are: Welker, Austin, Megatron, Jennings and Nicks. Quick note: more info about acquiring the TFS start-sit charts can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com.
What are your thoughts on Laurent Robinson this week? PPR 14 team deeeeeeep league.
KC Joyner (3:33 PM)
Big issue for him is that the Cowboys now have a healthy WR corps. He'll be target #4 on that roster because of that (and maybe lower if the RBs are targeted ahead of him). Good matchup but it's still a longshot play.
Trade advice please... Which side you want: Cam Newton/Stevie Johnoson or Arian/Dez?
KC Joyner (3:34 PM)
Newton/Johnson, as the other pairing's injury woes are a concern.
thoughts on sproles?
KC Joyner (3:35 PM)
If only they were to get him the ball more often. He's got a burst he lacked last year and NO isn't going to wear him out. Big time point candidate for ROS.
I'm confused by your Percy Harvin assessment...Harvin had two rushed for 23 yards last week and left early...how exactly do you equate that to "plays a bigger role in the offense" than Danarius Moore (who was taken out of the game by Jonathan Josepth last week, and gets a Joe Haden-less Brown's team this week)....what exactly am I missing here...not to mention McNabb's arm looks weak...So, if Houston thinks Moore is the most dangerous reciever on Oakland, and Minnesota doesn't even think Harvin is a starting WR...I have to believe your statement is more of a guess than anything that's actually happening on the field....I thought you were supposed to be a scientist or something
KC Joyner (3:36 PM)
Think about more than one week when assessing these players. If you are sold on Moore, then by all means play him.
Auto update is still off.
KC Joyner (3:38 PM)
That means the auto-update button on this page only controls this screen. Can't break away at the moment to ask how to fix this for this chat, but I will promise to ask about this the moment the chat is over. Hopefully that can fix it for next week's chat.
Apparently BJGE put in a full practice today. You think his style of running lends itself to possibly making him more productive against the Cowboys solid run D, or is Ridley's skill set better? I need to start one of them this week... was actually hoping BJGE would be Out. And it sounds like Woodhead might return... arghh.
KC Joyner (3:40 PM)
If BJGE was a full go in practice today, he'll probably be the bell cow. He's shown a second-level burst he lacked last year, so don't look for him to lose PT to Ridley over production. As long as he starts, play BJGE.
A name I havent posted from yet (New Location too)
Torain or Garcon this week?
KC Joyner (3:41 PM)
Torain. The Eagles D is giving up way too many big rushing plays this year and Garcon is playing the toughest secondary he's faced since Painter has joined the lineup.
Jason (New York)
KC, this trade got vetoed and our league is upside down now. It was Chris Johnson, Nicks, and S.Jax for Darren McFadden, Jason Campbell and Reggie Wayne. Was that a vetoable trade in your eyes?
KC Joyner (3:41 PM)
It isn't a trade I would have vetoed.
Ryan (New Haven)
KC, Thoughts on Sidney Rice and AJ Green ROS?
KC Joyner (3:43 PM)
Green is the better player. He has one less red-rated matchups (those being the toughest CB matchups) and he's got three green-rated matchups (those being the most favorable) in weeks 14-16.
KC, what are you thoughts on Heyward-Bey? Flex? Matchup play? He has been getting alot of love recently.
KC Joyner (3:44 PM)
As noted in this week's Pass Plays article, only 53 of DHB's yards this year have been gained on stretch vertical plays (those thrown 20 or more yards downfield). He's now becoming a more well-rounded WR who can do more than just run a go route, so he can be used much more often than just when facing a weak matchup.
Your biggest WR sleep of the week please!
KC Joyner (3:45 PM)
Either Deion Branch or Jordy Nelson. They both have been quite productive this year in the right situation and this week's matchups are definitely the right situation.
What's the biggest league you've ever played in? A few of my friends are trying to start a 20 team league for next year just to see how it goes?
KC Joyner (3:46 PM)
The Fezzik league is the official TFS chat league and it has 20 teams this year. The tough part is having that many teams means owners can go into weeks without have a defense or QB, so it might be worth considering how to handle that before starting a league of that size. Otherwise, it's pretty fun and it makes going over the waiver wires a very interesting process.
Dirty Dave Dansby (DC)
Sidge, need a beer reccomendation. Being that its fall I'm leaning maybe Pumpkin, or Octoberfest style. Any ideas? Also- whats for dinner?
KC Joyner (3:47 PM)
I'll let the chatters weigh on the beer choice. Mrs. Scientist is undecided on dinner. It might be a family night out.
Need a bye week fill in, Graham or Torain in a ppr league
KC Joyner (3:48 PM)
Torain will do well but he's in a crowded backfield and isn't quite the pass receiver Graham is. Go with Graham.
Pick Addai up off FA? Drop Isaac Redman or Titus Young? Mendenhall is on my team.
KC Joyner (3:50 PM)
Keep Redman, as the Steelers O line is run blocking well (they are quite underrated in this respect this year) and Mendenhall has been battling injuries (although keep an eye on Redman's health as well). Young would be the better drop.
Does the move to the outside help or hurt David Nelson
KC Joyner (3:52 PM)
Probably helps more than hurts, although it wouldn't be a shock to see them use him both as a slot and outside WR or split the outside WR responsibilities with Roosevelt. His matchups on the outside are not daunting, especially this week.
Lives are at stake! I have Manningham, Cruz, Garcon and Wayne. Which two should I start? Would it make more since to start two wrs on the same team or pick one from each?
KC Joyner (3:53 PM)
Go with Manningham and Cruz. The Bengals D is quite strong and they should be able to keep the Colts offense basically in check. Buffalo has allowed a lot of big passing games and at least one of those two will have a very good game (and possibly both will reach double digits).
Steelers O line is run blocking well? If so, why has Mendy sucked so far this year (even before the injury)?
KC Joyner (3:54 PM)
Their overall good blocking rate has been better than last year and their RBs are gaining quality GBYPA (good blocking YPA) totals. Problem was they fell behind in the Baltimore and Houston contests and that took them out of being able to run the ball.
Sam Adams Octoberfest! Hey, bye week fill in QB...Jason Campbell, Sam Bradford, or Andy Daulton? Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:56 PM)
Beer talk is always popular in the chat. Campbell and Dalton are rated 12/13 on the TFS start-sit charts, but Campbell would be rated higher if Haden is out. You may not be able to wait until that is clarified because of the start times, but even if Haden is slowed, it gives Campbell an edge.
Hey KC, Miles Austin and Manningham too much for Calvin Johnson? Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:57 PM)
Big time too much. Austin is capable of posting Megatron-like numbers on his own and Manningham is going to produce good numbers in the near future.
Tim Allen (The TV)
Even though my commercial alienates 90% of the MNF audience I still really play fantasy. Thoughts on Lynch ROS? Last week a fluke or signs of things to come?
KC Joyner (3:59 PM)
Tim's character needs to realize that, if one wants to get a tan and play fantasy football, just take the laptop/tablet/smartphone outside when making team choices. That way you can have the best of both worlds! Lynch will be hit-miss the rest of the year, as he has some very favorable matchups (Cleveland in week 7) and some tough ones (Baltimore in week 10).
Rick (irvine, ca)
Just made it for the end of the chat... buzzer beater, Lance Moore, or D. Moore, we all know who Lindsey would choose :)... but who would TFS choose?
KC Joyner (4:02 PM)
Not knocking Lindsey at all - disagreements are part and parcel of this job. I'd go with Lance Moore if only because the Saints offense will be facing a team with a bad FS. That could change if the Bucs put Tanard Jackson in the starting lineup, but then NO would be facing a team with a rusty FS. Either way, it's a recipe for upside. Well, it's been a fun hour but it's family time so I've got to run. Two quick notes. More info about the TFS start-sit charts can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. The TFS material is also always posted on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. Hope to see you all here next week!
