Melissa Jacobs (3:01 PM)
Happy Week 9 Friday everyone. Very excited for the slate of games this weekend - and especially the fantasy possibilities. Let's get right to your questions.
Hi Melissa, keeper league question, I have Rice, Chris Johnson and Jamaal Charles. Is it worth trying to trade CJ and JC for say McCoy or Forte or is that going too far. Talk me off the ledge!!
Melissa Jacobs (3:03 PM)
Not going to talk you off the ledge. Forte and McCoy are both in Top 5 company. Obviously JC is coming off a tough injury - who knows how much speed he'll lose. CJ. What is there to say?
DHB's production this week?
Melissa Jacobs (3:04 PM)
Hey Aaron - DHB's been pretty consistent - between 80-120 yards a game - the last few weeks. Palmer brings a big question mark, but I can't imagine any other receiver getting more targets on Oakland.
Hey MJ, the correlation between your chat attendance and my win streak continues as I've worked my way to a 5 game win streak. That said, in a PPR I'm staring a RB (need 1) and WR (need 2) decision: Battle>R. Bush>Ogbannaya>Moreno? Manningham>Rice>Braylon>Nelson? Thanks again MJ!
Melissa Jacobs (3:06 PM)
That is awesome, Dan! Really. I like Bush if Thomas is out. Otherwise Ogbonnaya. Manningham is a must start against the Pats. I'd probably throw in Nelson too - and I'm not even sure if you're talking David and Jordy. :)
Marie I. (NC)
Should I use at WR - Malcom Floyd or Jon Baldwin?
Melissa Jacobs (3:08 PM)
Hi Marie,That's tough since Baldwin really came on last week. But I'd go with Floyd, mainly because he has an ideal matchup vs. GB. Good luck!
Mark (San Jose)
Hello again Melissa. Tough matchup for Mendenhall this week and am thinking of benching him. Would you sit him for the following.. Addai, Ringer, McGahee, Jacobs or Ogbonnaya? Thanks for the advice.
Melissa Jacobs (3:10 PM)
Hello again Mark. The only one I'd consider replacing Mendy with is Jacobs. Bradshaw is doubtful and Jacobs performs well when he's the featured back. That said, they face a Top 10 run defense. But Mendy has a worse matchup. I'd probably go Jacobs.
Hi! Thanks again for the vote of confidence on the Ray Rice trade I asked about a couple of weeks ago, love having a spot on the roster I don't have to question. Even had Colston and Sproles save me from Rice's Jacksonville game, so riding a 3 game win streak to get to 4-4. However, I have waiver wired myself into confusion at my WR spots. I picked up Julio Jones, Antonio Brown, Breaston, Jon Baldwin, and DHB over the last two weeks, and already had Colston and Roddy White. Where on earth do I go from here to fill both WR's and the flex? Do I keep Colston in, even though Atlanta and KC both have great matchups?
Melissa Jacobs (3:12 PM)
Hey Dave,Yeah, I don't think you can sit Colston. He'll get plenty of targets. Brown may be a decent play (esp. because emmanuel Sanders won't be playing) and I like DHB's upside this week. If Carson Palmer's crash course was successful. Hope that helps
Melissa: I don't think Hawkeye Pierce could save my one team. Better replacement RB ROS (PPR League): Jacobs or Ogbannaya?
Melissa Jacobs (3:13 PM)
Hi again J.B.! As mentioned, I kind of like Jacobs this week. Good as featured guy and trying to incite another team to court him during off season.
Ron needs HELP!!! (WV)
Friday and still not solved bye week problems in std scoring leagues. Pick 1 TE from Cook & Dreessen? Pick 2 WR from Little, B. Edwards, Obomanu, Briscoe, D. Robinson? Pick DST from Atl, Philly.....Thanks
Melissa Jacobs (3:15 PM)
HELP is here! I like Dressen for your TE spot - boy does that guy know how to get open in the end zone. WRs: Edwards and Little (any else on your waivers?) DEF: LOVE Atlanta. I generally look for defenses playing the Colts. Usually works out well. :)
Hi melissa, Remember you mention your love of The League. Did you watch last night?
Melissa Jacobs (3:16 PM)
Hey AlexisNo, it's sitting on my DVR. I am interviewing the co-creator, Jackie Schaffer, next week for espnW. Hope you'll check it out when posted.
Anthony (The Swamp Returns)
Traded Darren McFadden and Damian Williams for Hakeem Nicks and Nate Washington. Thoughts on this trade? It is a PPR format and RB do not get a point per reception. Also, what do you think of trading David Nelson and Jabar Gaffney for Shonne Greene?
Melissa Jacobs (3:18 PM)
I've never been to The Swamp Returns. Sounds charming. Won't know if you won that trade until Run DMC returns. If he's as dominating as early season, well there's your answer. I do like Nelson/Gaffney for Greene is you are desperate at RB. Greene has actually looked decent as of late.
Afternoon MJ! Texans or Lions D ROS? thx
Melissa Jacobs (3:19 PM)
Need to look at schedules. Stand by!
Melissa Jacobs (3:21 PM)
I probably like the Texans better. Have some good matchups (Jags/Colts/Browns). Aside from the Tebow torture of last week, i thought the Lions would be even more of a force defensively.
Hey Melissa! do u like NWashington this wk? or rather James Jones, Baldwin,JSimpson, or PParker/ thanks
Melissa Jacobs (3:22 PM)
Don't love Nate W. this week. He's a bit inconsistent and the Bengals secondary is improving. But I'd still take him over your other options.
Does Philip Rivers have a decent week?
Melissa Jacobs (3:24 PM)
Clearly has been awful last few weeks. But has a dream matchup vs. Green Bay, second to last in pass defense to the Pats. I think Rivers puts up decent to great numbers, especially since he'll likely be throwing from behind.
hi Melissa! Thanks for the great advice last Friday --- helped me get a "W"!! Who do you see having a more productive game -- Moreno, ogbonnaya or Brandon Jacobs? Thanks again, have a great weekend!
Melissa Jacobs (3:25 PM)
Awesome Kat! Let's keep the streak up. Ogbonnaya and Jacobs have the tougher matchups. But McGahee is playing, taking away much of Moreno's value. I'd go with Jacobs on talent alone.
Melissa Jacobs (3:26 PM)
However, I spoke to Stephania Bell before this call and she thinks McGahee won't get his usual number of carries, mainly to protect the hand and preserve him for the ROS. Doesn't mean Moreno's hasn't still been awful.
Bigger sleeper pick by me this year... Forte at 35 or maclin at 65?
Melissa Jacobs (3:27 PM)
Ohhhhh. Probably Forte at 35, especially is you do PPR.
Hi Melissa- WR/TE flex: David Nelson, D Keller, Laurent Robinson? thanks
Melissa Jacobs (3:29 PM)
Hi Chip,I'd probably opt for Keller here. Even though his production has been disappointing, Buffalo's given up a lot of points to TEs.
Hey - Do you think the 49ers can really keep this up? What are the top three reasons for the success?
Melissa Jacobs (3:30 PM)
Yes, my obligatory Niners question! Yes, I do think they keep it up. Only tough games remaining are Ravens, Steelers, and Giants. Harbaugh is clearly reasons 1,2 and 3. Carlos Rogers was a nice upgrade in the secondary.
Melissa I can't watch, but Tebow this wk? Dalton or Cassel instead? Thanks!!
Melissa Jacobs (3:33 PM)
Surpringly Tebow was that bad fantasy-wsie last week. We was 15th on ESPN.com's fantasy list of QBs fro Week 8. I like Cassel this week - a lot. Great matchup against Miami and like how's they've incorporated Baldwin into the passing game.
Michael (Bay Area)
I need WR and RB help. S. Rice or J. Nelson? Battle, Lynch, or McGahee? 1/2 pt PPR. Thanks, your doing great on these chats.
Melissa Jacobs (3:35 PM)
Thanks so much, Michael! I'd opt for Nelson (also want to be part of that aerial attack). For your running back, McGahee may be the safest bet. But watch the news on Sunday morning. If Fox indicates any kind of split or limited action for Mcgahee, go with Battle.
Ron needs HELP!!! (WV)
Thanks for answer...One more..Janikowski or Novakat PK?
Melissa Jacobs (3:35 PM)
Well, Janikowski if he plays. Always. play. Janikowski.
Melissa Jacobs (3:37 PM)
Hard to tell if SeaBass is a go. Hue Jackson says he's keeping Raynor on speed dial.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Who do you think will be the very first head coach fired this season in the NFL?
Melissa Jacobs (3:38 PM)
Sporano, no doubt. But it should Caldwell. He's doing little to inspire that group.
Is Celek's turnaround legit, or just a product of game planning against teams soft in the middle??
Melissa Jacobs (3:39 PM)
Hey Josh,I think it's a combo but mostly based on Celek having talent and Vick changing things up a bit. LOVE Celek this week against the Bears - that's a team that plays soft in the middle.
Would you trade Stevie J & D Murray for B LLoyd? Stevie J has a brutal schedule from here on out...
Melissa Jacobs (3:41 PM)
He does. But he's still going to get plenty of targets. On the other hand, Lloyd is going to get crazy targets every week, esp. since the Rams are behind a lot.I'm in love with Murray, though, so I'd probably stay away from that trade.
Ropeman (One of the Mighty Heroes)
Rice, Turner and FJax. Which 1 sits this weekend??
Melissa Jacobs (3:42 PM)
Wowser. I guess Rice, just faced on his matchup vs. the Steelers. How did you get those RBs?!?!
Speaking of Laurent Robinson, worth a spot on your roster or do you think we can do better?
Melissa Jacobs (3:43 PM)
Depends on your roster :) I think he's a Victor Cruz lite kind of guy. Someone who will be productive f an injury fill-in. He'll periodically get a big play, like last week. But he may give you some zeroes as well.
Anything new on VJax? will he play? and do well fo a change? thx
Melissa Jacobs (3:44 PM)
He practiced in full again today and is expected to play. Great matchup this week.
AHernandez will/will not play and be ok this wk? thx!
Melissa Jacobs (3:46 PM)
He's been limited in practice but is still expected to play. Double check Sunday to make sure. (Not that you need me to tell you that!)
I've been using Fitzpatrick as my go-to starter nearly all season, with Sanchez as my backup, and it's been paying off pretty well (it's a 20-team league - I count myself lucky). But they play each other this week in a game that's pretty evenly matched. Who gets the start?
Melissa Jacobs (3:48 PM)
Hey Steve,I'd probably narrowly opt for Fitzpatrick. a) it's a home game b) he has better weapons c) Jets run game is coming together. But really, it's quite close.
I can trade away Fred Davis/DHB for Demarco Murray/Harvin. Should I pull the trigger? (We have a WR/TE flex spot instead of a standard TE spot). Thanks for the great advice as always.
Melissa Jacobs (3:50 PM)
Hi Peter,I wouldn't do it. The Jones/Murray shakeout is still TBD. Harvin will be in a lot of games with minimal scoring.Davis is still a beast and will probably have Grossman throwing to him again soon (just a hunch, no real news). DHB has upside with Palmer in town.
An injury question and you did not refer the asker to your 49ers friend, Stephania? Shame on you, Melissa! She is always promoting you.
Melissa Jacobs (3:51 PM)
This is true. Here's Stephania's chat: http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/chat/_/id/41073/fantasy-stephania-bellGreat stuff as always.
DAN (ROCHERSTER, NY)
Help with running backs. Which 2 should start. Cedric Benson, Sproles, Battle or Green-Ellis?
Melissa Jacobs (3:52 PM)
I like Sproles and Law Firm here. None are bad options though.
scott (santa cruz mountains)
Melissa: LawFirm or McGahee this week?
Melissa Jacobs (3:54 PM)
Hey Scott,I may just slightly opt for Law Firm. McGahee's hand isn't fully healed which, as Stephania said, could limit his time.
will you marry me?
Melissa Jacobs (3:55 PM)
Ask my husband first
Andy (Vestal NY)
Andre Johnson and Welker and Questionable...should I push my luck and start them both?
Melissa Jacobs (3:55 PM)
Johnson is out this week.
Bold prediction for this week
Melissa Jacobs (3:56 PM)
Indy loses again. How's that?
Melissa Jacobs (3:56 PM)
Actually, I think Chicago has a chance to upset Philly on Monday night.
Just traded Bradshaw/Nicks for Blount/Maclin in my keeper league...thoughts?
Melissa Jacobs (3:58 PM)
Know it's a keeper league but good you have two guys actually playing. Not confident in Bradshaw's longevity. Really like Blount. So yeah, good job out of you.
Melissa Jacobs (3:59 PM)
OK guys and girls, that'll about do it. Feel free to ask more on Twitter @thefootballgirl. And please check out my waiver column, Tuesdays on espnW. Also, this chat is getting moved to Thursday next week in front of our first real TNF game of the year! Good luck this weekend everyone!
