KC Joyner (3:00 PM)
Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!
Ben's thumb (Ben's hand)
can I guide a football this week? Should owners start Tebow?
KC Joyner (3:02 PM)
Worried more about the matchup against the Bengals than about Ben's injury woes. Plus the Vikings are a very favorable matchup for Tebow. He rates much higher on the TFS start-sit QB charts than Ben (more info about the start-sit charts can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com - only site plug of the chat).
I am locked into a playoff spot in my league. However TE has been a weak spot for me all year and I am looking for a decent option for the postseason. Who do you like best the rest of the way between Owen Daniels, Brent Celek, Ed Dickson, and Jared Cook?
KC Joyner (3:03 PM)
Celek probably wins that race, with the caveats of a) Daniels could win if the Texans get decent QB play and b) the Eagles don't mail in the rest of their season.
Wayne (Va Bch)
KC...you took a bit of a beating yesterday. Shake it off; you do a great job and I appreciate the amount of work you need to do to prepare for your time on the hot seat.Hopefully your session this afternoon will be a bit more cordial.
KC Joyner (3:04 PM)
Beating? That was nothing - you should see the emails and Twitter posts that get sent over. That's part and parcel of the job and yesterday was actually me having fun with those hecklers.
Need a win, who to start between Big Ben and Matt Moore this week.
KC Joyner (3:05 PM)
Those two are rated very close on the start-sit charts, but Moore has more upside because of his matchup, so he's the pick.
Thanks for your time, KC! What's your take on the Bronco's D/ST if Von Miller doesn't play?
KC Joyner (3:06 PM)
Still like them very much as a fantasy start this week with or without Miller (they rate 5th on the start-sit charts). The Vikings won't have Peterson and just lost one of their starting WRs to an injury, so their offense is in bad shape.
Shonn Greene hasn't done much this season, even given good matchups and no LT. What do you think about Spiller in PPR over Greene?
KC Joyner (3:07 PM)
Both have matchups that could be fairly tough. Greene is rated slightly higher on the start-sit charts, but that is for standard scoring. Spiller should see more pass targets, so he would win in a PPR start-sit chart.
Ho Ho Ho KC, Who sits: a banged up Nicks with Williams on him, Knox or Colston? 1 PPR with bonuses for longer tds.Thank You
KC Joyner (3:09 PM)
Merry Christmas to you as well, Kmac! Got Colston in that one, as he should have a very good game vs. whoever the Lions assign to cover him.
Should I drop Manningham to pick V.Davis on the Waiver for flex spot?
KC Joyner (3:10 PM)
The issue in picking up Davis is that the Harbaugh offense just doesn't throw to the tight end often enough. When Manningham is healthy he has been very productive. Getting Davis makes sense if you really need a TE but for a waiver pick it might be best to stick with Manningham.
Haven't the Eagles already mailed it in? I'm pretty sure once it's mailed, you don't get it back.
KC Joyner (3:12 PM)
It was bad last night, but it actually could get worse. Maybe the best way to put it is that the Eagles got the package ready to ship earlier in the year. Last night was putting the postage on the package.
please help me mr scientist (land of the lost)
Got playoffs on the line. Should I start Bradshaw over Helu in a.25 ppr league or play it safe with Helu... Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:13 PM)
Land of the Lost - isn't that the series where it starts with the guy yelling "I said lunch, not launch!" If so, that was one of my favorite TV shows when I was a kid. Helu wins on this one, as he is healthy and Shanahan insists that he will be the lead back this week.
Happy Friday KC...On a gut feeling I'm starting Harvin and VJax and leaving Stevie Johnson and AJ Green on the bench. Am I nuts?
KC Joyner (3:14 PM)
Happy Friday to you as well! Sitting Johnson makes sense. Can also justify sitting Green since the matchup at Pittsburgh is quite tough.
Starting Matt Moore over Big Ben is craziness. This is my one "KC is definitely wrong on this" pick of the week. It's a thing now.
KC Joyner (3:15 PM)
You act as if starting an injured Roethlisberger in a tough matchup against the Bengals is a no-brainer. And you do understand that the Raiders secondary has been banged up? And that the Dolphins are playing a lot better of late? And that Oakland is making an east coast trip? Lots of reasons to like Moore and the Fins this week.
Philip Elliot (North Dallas 40)
Non PPR ?. I'm in a bind this week at WR2 with Miles Austin, Denarius Moore, & Mario Manningham ALL unlikely to play. My best FA Options are--Burleson, Damian Williams,
KC Joyner (3:17 PM)
Sounds like you need a B-12 shot (ND 40 reference). Williams is actually a pretty good option. Burleson might be safer but Williams has more upside.
can you turn auto update on? it's off. thanks
Thank you! Also - AUTO-UPDATE, PLEASE!!
KC Joyner (3:18 PM)
Guys, I don't have any control over the auto-update feature. I'll ask the chat people about this after the chat to see if it can be addressed for future chats.
Antonio Brown - Bowe - Helu... having difficulty picking two for this week - Little help? (I'll be quiet while you science this one)
KC Joyner (3:19 PM)
Brown has posted at least 8 points per game in each of his last five starts and has been used a lot more on stretch vertical passes. Helu should get at least 20 carries/receptions. Bowe has a tough matchup in Tim Jennings and has QB issues. He's the one to sit this week.
jj (Big D)
Drop Witten to pick up Laurent from waivers for flex spot ?
KC Joyner (3:21 PM)
That would be a one-week move, as Austin should return to the lineup next week and relegate Robinson to a backup role. If you need to play for one win, it might be a move to make. If you are thinking about the playoffs, keep Witten.
Hey KC, My last question was which one sits betwen Nicks, Colston and Knox? Your answer was which one starts.. Thank you
KC Joyner (3:22 PM)
Ah, let's try this again. Colston wins one spot for the aforementioned reasons. Knox is playing well (he just missed the cut on this week's Pass Plays article) but he's also got too many question marks. Nicks wins that one.
regarding your comment about the Pitt/Cincy matchup. Cincy HAS been burned deep a lot this season, but all things considered, would I be crazy to consider benching 60 Minutes for Dez?
KC Joyner (3:24 PM)
It is true the Bengals have had some issues on vertical passes. Having said that, Bryant is due to face Patrick Peterson, who has been All-Pro on punt returns but nowhere near All-Pro status in coverage (he's been a total liability most of the year). It's part of why Dez gets the No. 1 ranking on this week's TFS start-sit WR charts.
I can't believe that L. Robinson is still a free agent in some leagues.
KC Joyner (3:25 PM)
Totally with you on this one. He's got a favorable matchup and is a must start on this week's start-sit charts.
Martin (New York, NY)
KC - I'm preparing for the playoffs and have some Packers and Niners players on my roster. Any worry that these teams start resting starters once they clinch?
KC Joyner (3:26 PM)
The gut instinct is that the Packers will keep going all out for an undefeated season as long as they keep winning. SF might be more apt to rest players.
Jay (Venice Beach)
Laurent Robinson or Marques Colston this week? Boy they are both hard to spell. Not Ogbannaya hard but still....
KC Joyner (3:28 PM)
We need more Mike Smiths. Tough call on Robinson/Colston, as they are both listed as must starts and have equal matchup strengths. Would probably go with Robinson if only because the Cardinals secondary as a whole is nowhere near as good as the Lions.
One last statement. Can someone please tell me why nobody has ever mentioned their schedule when talking about Cincy's defense? Besides Pittsburgh and Baltimore they have played the worst offenses in the league week in and week out (even Baltimore is pretty sad most weeks). Cincy easily has the most overrated defense in the league and will be exposted before long.
KC Joyner (3:28 PM)
Consider your comment as having been noted, Cody.
Eric (Sacramento CA)
I see Josh Freeman on the injury report with a shoulder. Do you know how serious? Go with K. Winslow, or Owen Daniels at TE
KC Joyner (3:30 PM)
The last I heard, it wasn't the type of injury that is going to keep Freeman out of the lineup. Got Winslow rated much higher on the TFS start-sit charts.
Last night didn't go well for me... Need an all or nothing play. Who has the best chance at a big game: DHB, Little, James Jones or Arrelious Benn?
KC Joyner (3:30 PM)
Have to go with Jones in that one, as he plays in the highest powered offense.
Adam (Newtown, PA )
KC: Who, in your humble opinion, is most "flex-ible" this week...J-Stew or Harvin? Thanks!
KC Joyner (3:31 PM)
Stewart and Williams are both good starts this week because the Panthers have run blocked well this year and the Bucs can't stop the run. Having said that, Harvin is hitting on all cylinders of late and wins this particular battle.
Cirilo R. (CA)
TFS...by your rankings it seems that you think Forte can overcome Hanie. I'm not feeling as confident. Can you help me feel better about it?
KC Joyner (3:33 PM)
He's been in double digits in the GBYPA metric pretty much all year and that is territory that even CJ2K didn't reach in 2009. Hanie threw the ball vertically 12 times last week, so the Bears are willing to let him threaten defenses. Knox also played well. Just am thinking those items will all add up to enough of an edge to let Forte continue to produce.
I know this is a FF chat, but can you tell me something about the Eagles? Do you think Andy/Juan/Marty get fired? Do they trade Vick?
KC Joyner (3:35 PM)
Will make one quick non-fantasy question exception (just like making a fantasy question exception in the Thursday chat). The Eagles issue isn't talent, so their front office should stay intact. As far as coaches go, even the best ones tend to have 10-12 year shelf lives with a team and Reid has passed that mark. It might be time for him to go. Regarding Vick, just depends on if another team wants to pay a good price for him. If not, they have to keep him.
Lions secondary FYI: Louis Delmas and Chris Houston are both probably out for Lions (haven't practiced all week since being injured on Thanksgiving) and their nickel CB Brandon MacDonald last week has been very limited in practice.
KC Joyner (3:36 PM)
It was thought that those two might be out. McDonald is terrible in coverage so having him not playing at full strength is even worse. All of these add up to make Saints players have even more upside than usual.
I have a question for my dad -- if he wins this week he'll take me to Disneyland!!! So please help me out here -- he's not sure if DeMarco Murray is worth starting over Chris Johnson and Frank Gore?? he's also got a guy named Arian and needs 3.
KC Joyner (3:39 PM)
Not sure if this is a joke, but if it is, it's kind of humorous to think that a dad would not take his kid to Disneyland if she got a fantasy football pick wrong. Murray is the third highest rated RB on the TFS start-sit charts, so he and Arian are two to start. Johnson rates over Gore because Gore is battling an injury.
QB Decision.. Which one sits highest on the TFS charts, R. Fitzpatrick, C. Palmer, or M. Ryan?? Thanks KC!
KC Joyner (3:40 PM)
Ryan rates highest - ranks 9th on the charts overall.
KC Joyner (3:40 PM)
Overall at QB, that is.
Happy Holidays..I know usually you start a RB at flex. Do I dare sit S. Jax vs SF. for Mike Williams, Torrey Smith, or even McKnight? 0.5PPR..TY
KC Joyner (3:41 PM)
Smith actually rates highest out of those picks.
Jimmy N (VA)
Help me Sidge! Need some SAAAAGE advice. 1) pick one of Decker, Tomlinson, D. Keller, or B Jacobs for flex in a non PPR. 2) why has Houston not called SAGE?! He knows the offense! It makes too much sense!! #notevenkidding
KC Joyner (3:43 PM)
At last check, the Dolphins had released Sage, so that isn't holding up things any more. Maybe Houston just remembers Sage's game against the Colts (sorry, had to go there). Decker rates highest on that list but it's a risky play because of the potential lack of targets.
Inigo Montoya (I Am Not Left Handed)
Neither are Tyler Palko or Tim Tebow! Or maybe they shouldn't be...anyways, I need a WR to go with Roddy - Nicks, Laurent, Harvin. And a flex, Helu, JStew or the other WRs...thanks! 1/2 PPR
KC Joyner (3:44 PM)
Gotta like a creative post like that! Robinson wins the WR battle. Harvin and Helu are close on the 2nd choice, but Helu probably wins because he will be the bell cow this week.
KC, do you see Fitzpatrick being serviceable this week and the ROS? Or would you rather have palmer going this week and beyond?
KC Joyner (3:46 PM)
The tough part of this call is Palmer's WR corps. If they were healthy, he would be the hands down winner here. As it is, he is probably the better choice because Fitz's WR corps isn't exactly healthy and he has no running game to take the pressure off of other teams trying to stop the Bills passing game.
really need your advice here! Orton or Kolb ROS?
KC Joyner (3:47 PM)
Kolb because he has Fitzgerald to throw to.
KCJ, wasnt trying to be rude on twitter Thanksgiving night when I gave you some grief about the Tex A+M post. It was the all day football and booze talking. Still a fan.
KC Joyner (3:48 PM)
No worries. I just hate that A&M fired Sherman. He did so much for that team and deserved another chance.
I have a hard time sitting my studs Wallace and A. Johnson. However, Harvin has been on fire lately. Who do i sit?
KC Joyner (3:49 PM)
In a situation like this, it is always a good idea to sit the least healthy player. Johnson says he's back at full strength and very well could be, but the other team are known to be healthy. It's a risk, but Johnson would be the one to sit out of that group.
KC Joyner (3:50 PM)
Plus, Johnson does have QB woes that could keep his value down.
Any worries about Wallace ROS?
KC Joyner (3:51 PM)
A bit both because of Ben's injury and that Wallace has three red-rated CBs on his schedule ROS (red-rated being the toughest type of matchup). Still think he will be productive but he might end up being one of the lower rated must starts in those weeks.
Need help! 5 teams tied for 3 playoff spots. Bradshaw over matthews? Or start both, 1 being in a flex spot over decker or bowe?
KC Joyner (3:52 PM)
Bowe is the definite sit of that group. Decker is a risk because of the aforementioned target woes. Would start Mathews and Bradshaw (with Mathews being the more highly rated).
Scott (Northglenn, CO)
Any concerns about Champ chasing Harvin all over the field? He shut down VJax, but Harvin is a totally different player...
KC Joyner (3:54 PM)
Maybe, but Harvin is really a running back playing WR. That means most of his use is on plays that cannot be shut down with good CB coverage.
Ryan F. (Tulsa, OK)
Hey KC, glad I could make some of the chat today. Work kept me out yesterday. Sounds like I missed a good one. Hate to be a repeat questioner but I'm really nervous about Nate Washington. My WR's have been killing me all year.
KC Joyner (3:56 PM)
Yesterday was just fun with hecklers. Thought about going all Sam Kinison on them but decided to keep it more G/PG (Kinison was brutal on hecklers - would that he were still alive). Good to be worried about Washington, as he hasn't been producing as well of late. He's got some upside because of the state of the Bills secondary but there are a lot of WR options in front of him (he ranks 37th on the TFS WR start-sit charts).
Holmes or Bradshaw for non-ppr flex? Holmes might be safer, but I have a gut feeling that Bradshaw helps the non-existent run game...
KC Joyner (3:57 PM)
The gut does say Bradshaw will help the Giants run game a lot, but Holmes has been playing very well of late and he's got a very favorable matchup. He wins that one.
Are we sure Bradshaw is playing?
KC Joyner (3:58 PM)
Signs are pointing towards it but it will be one of those things to confirm before putting him into the lineup.
B Lloyd or Dez for PPR? Dez's matchup looks good but he has been inconsistent so far
KC Joyner (4:00 PM)
Bryant is the top rated WR on the TFS start-sit charts, so he gets the win here. Well, hate to cut it a couple of minutes short but I've got an ESPN Fantasy Blitz radio interview to do, so it's time to run. Quick notes. All of the TFS material is posted on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. A link to that Blitz interview will be posted later today. More info on the TFS start-sit charts can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. Hope to see you all here next week!
