William Wilkerson (2:59 PM)
Thanks for joining the chat today folks. I'll be filling in for Carter today. Fire away with your question.
RJ Weldon (Indiana)
Should Texas follow suit and jump ship for the Big 12?
William Wilkerson (3:00 PM)
Not sure what you are trying to say here RJ.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What Bowl Game will Texas Play in this season?
William Wilkerson (3:02 PM)
Texas will face Cal in the Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28. Both teams are 7-5. But the Longhorns have lost 3 of 4.
Todd (Austin Tx)
What early enrolee recruits from the class of 2012 do you think will have a starting role next year? Do you think conner brewer will be the starting qb for the 2012 season? What happen to quincy russel from sam houston of the 2011 texas recruting class?
William Wilkerson (3:05 PM)
Early enrolles right now appear to be Connor Brewer, Alex De La Torre, Orlando Thomas and Paul Boyette Jr. Of those, I'd say that Brewer has the best chance at starting if he can grasp this offense as well as people think he will. I expect Thomas to see action on special team similar to how Mykelle Thompson did this season. But Texas is going to be struggling to find safties next season so a good spring could make Thomas a contenderI don't think Brewer will start the season, but I think he will give McCoy a run for his money. Russell is at Trinity Valley Community College.
ii am he (new york)
The hiesman trophy shouldnt be the only single important trophy because clearly there are 2 many very talented players 2 keep singling 1 out
William Wilkerson (3:06 PM)
Agreed. But I don't think it is the ONLY important trophy out there.
Cooter Brown (Alabama)
If Brandon Moore commits what will that do for Texas?
William Wilkerson (3:09 PM)
Moore committing to Texas would be a huge get for the Longhorns. They'll lose Kheeston Randall to graduation after this season and Moore is someone that can come in right away to fill that void. He combined with the emergence of Dorsey, Jackson and Whaley, in addition to Howell could be trouble for opposing offenses. FYI, Moore helped East Miss. Community College win the JUCO national title last Saturday.
Skippy Handleman (Texas)
With all thee receivers Texas has grabbed is DGB now out of it for UT?
William Wilkerson (3:10 PM)
I wouldn't say the door is completely shut, but it is barely open. The Longhorns are never out of a race if they get a recruit on campus, which they were able to do with DGB. All reports were that it went extremely well. I just don't see it being enough to get him away from OU. Either way, Texas should feel really good about the WR they are bringing in. Top notch group.
Rodney Garner (Georgia)
Safeties. We need safeties. What is the deal with Landon Collins? Any way we get him over LSU?
William Wilkerson (3:12 PM)
Collins was scheduled to make an official visit to Texas this weekend in what is shaping up to be the Longhorns' biggest recruiting weekend of the season. But it doesn't look like he is going to make it. I do expect him to reschedule though. But I do expect him to sign with LSU either way.The Longhorns are also going after Adrian Colbert (Mineral Wells, Texas), who has committed to Baylor. He will make an official to Texas this weekend.
Brian Greenea (Texas)
Can Connor Brewer run Harsin's offense? And what are the chances he will be the starter next year?
William Wilkerson (3:15 PM)
Brewer can definitely run this offense. Brewer's personal QB coach told me that he is a spitting image of Kellen Moore, who Harsin had while at Boise State. Brewer is a very smart player who takes care of the ball - only 17 career INTs in over 600 pass attempts. And he is a winner - won 3 straight Arizona state titles. Chances he will be the starter next year: 65 % IMO if you are asking me on his chances at any point in the season. Chances he starts the season at QB: 48%
Bennie Wylie (Texas)
How much did the offseason conditioning mean for Texas this year? Where did we see the results?
William Wilkerson (3:17 PM)
I think Texas was a much more physical team this season that I had seen in previous years. Overall I thought they were a much better tackling team and showed a nasty side on the O-line that probably hadn't been seen since 2005 with the likes of Blalock, Studdard and Sendlein. I think the results will really begin to show at the beginning of camp next year after he has had a full year to work with these guys.
Ted Lange (Texas)
What is the deal with all this Mack retiring talk? Why is this coming u? How much can it hurt Texas in recruiting for things like this to be floating around out there?
William Wilkerson (3:19 PM)
It's all smoke and mirrors. He's not going anywhere. There is too much to play for here and he has the No. 1 recruiting class in the country coming in next season. Mack leaving Texas would really hurt the Longhorns immediate recruiting efforts in my opinion, but not as much as it may other schools. Texas carries itself in many instances. But Brown is one of the best recruiters in the business. You've heard the man speak. He could sale ice to an eskimo.
Bob Bowles (san saba Texas)
What recruit will have the most impact in 2012?
William Wilkerson (3:20 PM)
That's tough but I will go with Malcom Brown, Johnathan Gray, Cayleb Jones and Thomas Johnson.
HornStuckInOK (North of The Red River)
Do you think Ash or McCoy can develop into what they need to be in order to find success under HarsinWhite? If not, is Connor Brewer, or even Jalen Overstreet, the answer for Texas?
William Wilkerson (3:22 PM)
Neither really showed me that they had what it takes to be an every-week starter in this program. Not saying they can't do it. I just didn't see it this season. Ash's running abilities are nice, but his throwing is questionable. McCoy's arm strength has been a noted issue since he came out of high school. I do think that Brewer and Overstreet will see time at QB in the near future. Overstreet reminds me so much of Denard Robinson.
When Colt got to Texas, he didn't have much arm strength, but was plenty accurate. He put on considerable bulk between years one and two and turned into a pretty great qb. Case has his brother's accuracy, but hasn't put on much bulk. You think he can gain enough strength to become a solid (if not great) qb next year?
William Wilkerson (3:24 PM)
Bennie Wylie will do what he can to put Case in the best position to be successful. Colt, as you mentioned, really transformed his body over his time at Texas. I'm not sure if adding muscle will help Case get to where Texas fans would like him to be, and that's on the winning side of ball games.
Chase (South Dakota)
Great job reporting on the Horns' this season Carter! Much appreciated. Did I read correctly Mr. Edwards will be in Austin for the banquet? and if so does this change the fact that the Sooners and FSU are the favorites to land him?
William Wilkerson (3:25 PM)
I'll pass the kind words over to Carter. I definitely agree with you by the way.Texas is trying to get Mario to Austin this weekend for his long-awaited OV. Even if he does make it down I think it will come down to FSU, OU and LSU.
What players does Texas have on their radar for 2013?
William Wilkerson (3:26 PM)
No way to list all of them but OT's A'Shawn Robinson, Kent Perkins, Darius James, WR Jake Oliver, DT Jake Raulerson, QB Tyrone Swoopes and J.T. Barrett are a few.
Chase (South Dakota)
Will Mr. Edwards be attending the December 9th banquet and if so does this change the favorites of OU and FSU to land Edwards?
William Wilkerson (3:27 PM)
Answered this a few questions down. Texas is trying its best to get Edwards to town. The Longhorns can never be counted out if they get a recruit to campus, and into Mack's office.
in your opinion, who is the starting QB at texas in Sept. 2012
William Wilkerson (3:28 PM)
Whew, I'm going to go with Case. But Connor Brewer's early enrollment is going to give him a good chance.
what are the chance Overstreet is the starter at some point next year?
William Wilkerson (3:29 PM)
I think they are pretty slim. i do think he has a bright future at the position but I don't think he is as polished as Brewer. That being said, I do think he will find his way back there in the Wildcat numerous times. Keep in mind, there are two studs at QB in Texas for 2013.
William Wilkerson (3:31 PM)
