Melissa Jacobs (3:02 PM)
Welcome everyone. If you're here today I assume you made your playoffs and for that I say CONGRATULATIONS.I'll try to get to all of your questions and nothing is off limits, as long as it's related to fantasy or the NFL.Let's go....
What do i do this week with Michael Turner? I cant afford another lousy performance... What do you think of Driver ??
Melissa Jacobs (3:03 PM)
Hi Stan,Interesting you ask about Turner. I know he's a risky start but I like him tonight for two reasons: 1) Nagging groin injury is supposedly getting better 2) Just saw the stat that the Jags have either given up a rushing TD or 100 yards rushing in each of the last four games.
Reggie Bush or Roy Helu?
Melissa Jacobs (3:05 PM)
Hi Dennis,Great question. I narrowly like Bush, mainly based on the matchup. And you should keep riding Bush's hot streak. I think the Redskins will be much more active in the air.
Should I start Ben Roethlisberger? What's going on with his injury?
Melissa Jacobs (3:07 PM)
Hi Denise,If he plays (which I think he will) he's a great start this week. Opposing QBs have been able to tear the Niners secondary apart. But if you don't have a definitive yes on Big Ben by Sunday am, you should probably plug that hole with someone else...just to be safe.
Mark (San Jose)
Hey there Melissa. Off to the 2nd round in 3 of 5 leagues and need some advice. Here comes your niners against my Mendenhall which we tapped on earlier this season. Should I start him this week or go with another option. J Stewart or B Jacobs of no relation? One of the 3 please. Thank You.
Melissa Jacobs (3:09 PM)
Hi again Mark,I'd go with Jacobs, and not just because he's my twin. He's obviously been hot and that is a much more RBBC than we expected upon Bradshaw's return. I don't advise anyone to start Mendy this week.
Melissa Jacobs (3:10 PM)
BTW, and I posted this on twitter, but the niners haven't allowed a rushing touchdown, a 100 yard rusher...and the most rushing yards they've given up to an individual is 75..and that was to Mike Vick.
Mellisa who do you think wins tonight between atlanta and jacksonville?
Melissa Jacobs (3:11 PM)
Hey Victor,Atlanta - all the way. Has the makings of a blowout. Anyone think the Jags match up nicely?
Mike Ho (Hong Kong)
Hey Melissa, hope you are doing well. Can you pick 3 for a PPR from Jonathan Stewart, Santana Moss, Brandon Lloyd, Brandon Marshall, and Jermichael Finley.
Melissa Jacobs (3:13 PM)
Hey Mike,Wow, interesting options. I'd go with Moss, Marshal and Finley, really based on matchups. And in Finley's case, I think he's looking for major redemption.
flex appeal (a stadium near you)
Hello Melissa. You and my gut gave me some bad advice a few backs on Harvin vs. Witten in a PPR league with bonus pts for long td's. You both picked Witten and Harvin went off but I'm not holding that against you guys as I'm in the offs. Romo or Stafford this week ? Thanks as always.
Melissa Jacobs (3:16 PM)
Hi FA,Ah yes, I remember that and I'm sorry. I like Romo a little more this week. I think the Bucs secondary is a little worse than the Raiders. Also, it looks like Kevin Smith may be returning to the Lions and I think a lot of their offense will shift to him - as it should.
Melissa Jacobs (3:17 PM)
Not that Smith isn't productive in the air - just don't think Stafford airs it out as much.
Start 2 RB's Bradshaw, Felix Jones or Blount? and pick 3 WR's Boldin, Cruz, Plaixco, Denarius Moore or Malcom Floyd?
Melissa Jacobs (3:19 PM)
Hey Darnell,Love Felix Jones this week, as well as Blount. Bradshaw is getting minimized by Jacobs. on the WR front, Cruz for sure, Floyd and Boldin. I don't trust Carson Palmer throwing to anyone.
Champ or Chump (LittleRon) (WV)
Afternoon Melissa, really need your insight this week in 2 Non-PPR leagues. 1. (4 pt per pass TD)..Tebow or Stafford?... RB2, WR2, and Flex from K.Smith/Morris/K. Williams, K. Bell, Tolbert, Robinson, D. Thomas 2. Gore or Tate at RB2?... A. Johnson, Moss, D. Thomas at WR3?
Melissa Jacobs (3:21 PM)
Hey Little Ron,1. Tebow (can't resist the Pats worst secondary in the league matchup) RB2 - Smith, if he plays, WR2 - Robinson, on a new hot streak, Flex - D. Thomas. 2. Gore (but watch for injury updates and Moss at WR3...whew that was hard work!
Neal(slc) [via mobile]
Hey MJ, made it to the semis of my 14 team league. Is it getting too cute to sit the Steelers D for the Cardinals just based on matchup.
Melissa Jacobs (3:23 PM)
Hi Neal,Wow, that's a toughie. if Smith gets no protection like last week, then Steelers D could have a massive day. I'm still inclined to stick with what's got me here. I dont' see the Niners putting up a lot of points (although as an SF fan hope I'm wrong!)
I keep thinking, "Sproles over Mendenhall," for this week (0.5 points per touch). Still doesn't sound right to me though...or does it?
Melissa Jacobs (3:24 PM)
Hey J.B. Sounds right to me. No one has done anything against SF (except Helu as a WR). Too risky to start any opposing RB, if you ask me.
Good afternoon, Melissa. Better flex play this week - Bowe, Ryan Grant, Denarius Moore, Sproles? Thanks as always!
Melissa Jacobs (3:26 PM)
Hi Kat,First instinct is Sproles by a lot. But keep an eye on injury updates. If Kyle Orton starts in KC, Bowe may not be a bad play. If Starks remains out, same for Grant.
Lee (working from home)
Hi Melissa- you got me this far. I need 3 WR's and a flex. . . D.Thomas (den); Moss; Megatron; Bryant; and WallaceHELP! Semifinals
Melissa Jacobs (3:28 PM)
Hey Lee,Glad to hear it! I like Thomas, Moss, and Megatron. People on down on him but the upside is too great to sit. For flex I'd narrowly opt for Bryant. The Wallace/Brown conundrum is too tricky week to week.
Melissa Jacobs (3:28 PM)
BTW, so happy that almost all the regulars are here today. Means you're doing well!
Santa (North Pole)
Getting ready for a playoff match up against Hermie, our elf dentist. Out of Sproles, Spiller, Mendenhall, Daily Show, and Demaryius Thomas, who's nice and who's naughty (RB2, FLEX, and WR2 with Spiller eligible for all)? Ho, ho, ho!
Melissa Jacobs (3:30 PM)
Is your elf dentist Herm Edwards? I like Sproles, RB2, Daily Show FLEX and Thomas as WR2Ho ho ho
need one wr.................thomas (den), Gafney (was) or decker (den)
Melissa Jacobs (3:32 PM)
Hey lemay,I am super high on Thomas. He is clearly Tebow's number 1 target. And I think much like it was against the Bears, the read option will be ineffective this week, forcing Tebow to clunk it to Thomas.
Hi Melissa,What do you think about this non-ppr flex lineup: start DBryant & SMoss, sit Fitz; start CJ2k, Benson,
Melissa Jacobs (3:34 PM)
Hi Chris,I like it. Although I'd consider starting Fitz and sitting Moss. Last week Fitx showed why he's a Top 3 WR (IMO). Caught the ball in heavy coverage. I don't know your other RB options but starting CJ and Benson sounds good to me. Good luck!
Melissa Jacobs (3:35 PM)
Hey Neal - I just deleted your question by mistake. Please resend and I'll get to you right away Thanks!
Norm (Boston) [via mobile]
Flex help please!!! Vjax or Gates. Also Blount or Sproles...ranked back to back. Btw, you are smokin hot!
Melissa Jacobs (3:37 PM)
Hey Norm,I'd go with Gates - he's just such a threat in the end zone lately. Also love Sproles this week. Great matchup and of course ability to do so much, esp. since it seems Ingram will be out again.
Adam (Land of the Undefeated )
Need 2 RBs and 1 Flex out of these four running backs - who do I start?? Peterson / Gerhart (NO), St. Jackson (Cin), Beanie Wells (Cle), or Helu (NYG)
Melissa Jacobs (3:39 PM)
Hi Adam,Congrats on being undefeated. AP is always a must start if healthy (looks like he'll play). Like Wells, who has played well except vs. SF (like every other RB), And Helu, best dual threat.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What do you think of Going to Football Games at Candlestick Park?
Melissa Jacobs (3:41 PM)
Hey Chris,Haven't been in a couple of years but used to love it. Very old school and great memories there. As a stadium it's terrible, rundown, with major transportation issues. Looks like the Santa Clara stadium is happening.
Hermie the Elf Dentist (North Pole)
Darn Santa beat me here. MJ, any reason to think Colston can't have a performance this week like he did last week? I mean the Vikings couldn't cover the floor! Thanks.
Melissa Jacobs (3:42 PM)
Hey Hermie,Agree Brees has a great matchup. And yeah, I'd think Colston has another big outing. Obviously a large receiving corps to contend with there but Colston is so great since he's always good dfor a few safe slot passes at the very least. He'll never give you a goose egg.
Adam ((Land of the Undefeated))
Just to clarify Melissa, I am living in Green Bay - hence the undefeated comment. My fantasy team went a decent 11-3 this year :) Thanks for the help!!
Melissa Jacobs (3:43 PM)
Ahhh, well congrats then. Enjoy that stock!
Stuart (Brooklyn, NY)
Jacobs, BJGE or Stewart? Garcon or Meachem? Thanks MJ!
Melissa Jacobs (3:45 PM)
Hi Stuart,I definitely like Jacobs out of your crew. BJGE had less carries than Danny Woodhead last week - that's cause for concern. I like Garcon over Meachem since he should get targeted a whole lot more. And be playing from behind, of course. :)
Neal(slc) [via mobile]
So I picked up Driver. Im playing against Arod this week. I'm thinking of playing him over Tate for my wr3 to hopefully negate some of Arod's production. Smart move? Thanks again. Hopefully be able to win this week and be in the mood to chat next week!
Melissa Jacobs (3:48 PM)
Hmmm. I still like Tate, as I think both he and Foster will put up big numbers against the Panthers lowly run defense. Driver isn't guaranteed to get anything, even with Jennings out. And who knows if anyone we've heard of plays the 4th quarter. Would hate for you to be more tortured by Nelson., Finley, Jones, etc.
Melissaa.. im benching Mendenhall&Blount and playing Barber
Melissa Jacobs (3:48 PM)
I actually agree with that. Redemption time!
Melissa: General question here. Shouldn't FFL owners still be cautious about guys returning from leg injuries? I mean if it comes down to a fairly close choice, don't you want to go with the healthier player as a start?
Melissa Jacobs (3:50 PM)
Yeah J.B., I definitely agree with that. Especially the ones with nagging hamstrings. You see guys getting reinjured every week. But you have to weigh that with the disparity in talent - and the extent of the injury.
Hi Melissa. Do you think Harvin production will stay the same with AP coming back? In ppr league I am starting him, A.J. Green and Welker. Should I bench Green or Harvin for A. Brown, Demaryius Thomas. At rb Sproles or S.Jackson (ppr).Thanks.
Melissa Jacobs (3:53 PM)
Good question about AP. I honestly think it depends on how healthy he is. Is he being eased back or full-fledged monopolizing the carries. I would probably try to Antonio Brown in the mix. I think he'll do great things on Monday night. S.F. has given up some big plays to the "no.2" WR if you consider Brown that.
Neal(slc) [via mobile]
MJ that's actually Golden Tate. Digging deep for my 3rd wr! Id rather have Ben Tate if that makes a difference! Have a great weekend!
Melissa Jacobs (3:54 PM)
Melissa Jacobs (3:54 PM)
OK guys and gals..that will wrap it up for this week. I'll be back next Thursday. Same time. Same place. Hope to see you then. Best of luck!
