William Wilkerson (2:59 PM)
I know you've all got last minute shopping to do (I haven't even started) so I'll get this chat going. Thanks for stopping by.

Does the weight room training help McCoy get strength on that arm so that he can air it out more?
William Wilkerson (3:01 PM)
Obviously it is going to help some. You saw the physical transformation Colt made in his time at Texas. Dude got big. But I don't know how much it is going to help Case's arm strength. The thing I'd be more concerned with if I were Texas is his carelessness with the ball in the pocket. Maybe it's just me, but he holds that thing very freely when he is running around back there.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Will we see another McCoy in the NFL probably in 2012?
William Wilkerson (3:03 PM)
I'm going to say negative. Are Shady McCoy, Colt McCoy and Gerald McCoy not enough for you Chris?
Zach Williams (Nashua NH)
What are your thoughts on the deal the Rangers made with The Japanese super star?
William Wilkerson (3:05 PM)
I'd take the Rangers starting rotation over most as it stands right now. Add Darvish, and I really like their chances even without CJ Wilson. But this guy better be as good as advertised. $51 million for negotiating rights is a lot of change.
barron tryon (dallas,tx)
who are the guys that we have enrolling early in january...
William Wilkerson (3:06 PM)
Connor Brewer, Orlando Thomas, Alex De La Torre and Camrhon Hughes will be the high school early enrollees. Donald Hawkins and Brandon Moore, the two JUCO commitments, are signing their LOI's tomorrow so they will be there as well.
Eddie Molina (San Antonio, TX)
Hey William, I'm a bit concerned that Landon Collins, that beast of a safety, has lost interest in Texas. I found out he wasn't able to make his official visit on December 9 like all the other prospects. Any chance he'll reschedule soon? And does it negatively affect Texas' chance of earning a committment from him?
William Wilkerson (3:09 PM)
I don't think it negatively affects Texas chances of landing Collins simply because I don't think the Longhorns have a great chance with him anyway. I just find it hard to believe that he would leave LSU's backyard. That being said, Texas does as good a job as any program of hosting kids on official visits. There is a lot to like about the facilities and Austin in general. Plus, he wants to dabble in sports broadcasting so you never know what type of affect the LHN could play on his mind. He's always been fascinated by Texas' offer from the get-go. I just think the Mad Hatter gets him in the end.
Nick Erturkuner (Dallas, Texas)
Based on Mario Edwards' comments about his OU visit, does that put Texas in a good position to land him?
William Wilkerson (3:11 PM)
There is no question that Texas sits in a better position with Edwards now than it did back in Oct. when it got demolished by OU with Edwards sitting in the stands. Texas couldn't have picked a better weekend for him to take his official visit. I think they have as good a chance as Oklahoma or LSU at getting a switch in commitment from Florida State.
Haven't heard much lately on Landon Collins. Are the Horns still going after him or are we content with Adrian Colbert being our big safety signing?
William Wilkerson (3:14 PM)
Texas is still going after Collins, but like I just answered a few questions ago, I just don't think he is going to get away from Les Miles and LSU. I do think that Collins will make his way down to Texas for an OV before it's all said and done. As it stands Texas has one true safety in Colbert and also have a commitment from Orlando Thomas out of Copperas Cove. He was a QB for them and played in the secondary when Cove played a pass-happy team. Thomas is enrolling early, which will not only benefit him but also Texas should Vaccaro decide to forego his senior season. And don't forget about Thompson. He was as explosive as anyone in high school.

hey willie, any indication on where texas stands with the elite 2013 QBs jt barrett and swoopes? does there seem to be a favorite amongst the staff and recruiting analysts?and care to step out on a limp with predictions on where mario edwards and DGB end up?
William Wilkerson (3:19 PM)
The Longhorns have evaluated both Barrett and Swoopes already. Harsin watched Swoopes play and have watched film on Barrett. IMO, I'd say that Swoopes has the early advantage. But let's not discount Kenny Hill, who just won a state title with Southlake Carroll. He has the size, strength and running capabilities to do damage at an FBS program. Cody Thomas from Colleyville Heritage is another prospect to keep an eye on.Going out on a really shaky limb here, but I'll say Edwards ends up with Florida State and DGB gets to know Texas a whole lot better.
Chase (South Dakota)
Obviously the thing that would keep DGB from Texas is location but with Mr. Edwards it is not so clear. From what I have read he kind of wants to leave his own legacy and not follow his fathers footsteps so in my opinion it is between OU and UT and why would he not want to play for his home state university?.....any suggestions why Mr. Edwards would not attend UT?
William Wilkerson (3:21 PM)
I've heard similar things to what you mention about him wanting to leave his own legacy. There aren't really any concrete explanations as to why he wouldn't want to play here. The only one I can think of, if an answer has to be given, is who Texas has in front of him at the position. Yes there is a chance Okafor could enter the NFL Draft but I think he'll end up coming back. So that leaves you with Okafor and Jeffcoat on the end. But someone with Edwards' talent and potential should never be worried about who is in front of him. He is going to make his way onto the field regardless.
barron tryon (dallas,tx)
how did mario edwards visit go at oklahoma
William Wilkerson (3:22 PM)
Direct quote from Edwards that he told our Damon Sayles:"It was pretty good, a nice experience. I got to really get a feel for the place. It was a pretty good environment."
ok i got a three part question for ya will are there going to be anymore recruits taking offcial visits to texas and do we really have a shot at both mario edwards and is it true dorial green beckham narrowed his list down to texas and arkansa? ive been hearing that rumor
William Wilkerson (3:25 PM)
Todd, mark Jan. 20 down as Texas' next big recruiting weekend. Thomas Johnson, Johnathan Gray, Kennedy Estelle, Peter Jinkens, Jalen Overstreet and Caleb Bluiett are all expected to be in Austin. Yes, the Longhorns really have a shot at Edwards. Really. I can't confirm that DGB has narrowed his list to the Red River Rivals. But I do know that they appear to be the favorites along with Arkansas with Alabama and Missouri in the mix as well.
Are there going to be anymore prospects texas is trying to get in for a offcial visit on january 20 like vincent hobbs who is visiting?
William Wilkerson (3:26 PM)
Todd,Thomas Johnson, Peter Jinkens, Hobbs, J Gray, K. Estelle, J. Overstreet and C. Bluiett are all expected to be in Austin that weekend. Don't be surprised if another rb/db hybrid makes his way down to Austin that weekend as well.
Small Arms (ATX)
I expect J'Covan Brown to get alot of attention from UNC tomorrow night. Who do you see stepping up their game to pour in some points if Covan isn't able to get his shots?
William Wilkerson (3:30 PM)
What's good Small Arms!Look, Texas isn't going to get anything inside against many opponents this season. But that's especially true against a team with the length that UNC does. Have you seen John Henson's arms! Stretch Armstrong in the flesh, that guy. I expect Sheldon and Jaylen Bond to have good games for Texas. I'm not so sure the Horns have much of a shot in this one, especially since UNC will be trying to snap a four-game losing streak to Texas, but i do think it takes a step in a positive direction in defeat. Now, go work on those biceps.
Will I be able to get the type of yardage I did in the last 4 games of the Pac-12 season (avg 142 ypg) against Texas' run defense?
William Wilkerson (3:32 PM)
Isi, I think it's going to be tough to get that type of yardage against the best run defense in the Big 12. If your QB gets it going through the air, though, then I think you might sniff 90.
Zeke (Austin TX)
Hi Will, What are the chances (percentages) that the Longhorns land DGB, Edwards, another TE and a QB via JUCO/Transfer for 2012? Thanks
William Wilkerson (3:33 PM)
DGB - 34 iwards - 46 %Another TE - 40 %QB via JUCO/Transfer - 5 %
Will (Fort Worth, TX)
Attrition has weakened Texas' depth over the last year and a half. Who do you think will be the next highly rated recruit to wash-out of the Texas program?
William Wilkerson (3:33 PM)
I think Texas has had enough over the past few weeks to carry them over for a while, don't you?
Reymundo (Tyler, Texas)
What are the chances of UT landing another reciever such Dorial? Although they are looking good with the commitments they have now, it would be nice to have a huge target like him on the field.
William Wilkerson (3:34 PM)
There's no question adding someone like DGB would be a huge benefit for an offense that should be explosive on the ground. They've got a solid chance IMO.
Aundrea Grumbo (Austin,TX)
Your advice to Case McCoy being that he's getting older and Mack can't pick a QB - Hold on or Transfer? Same question about Ash being that McCoy looks like the favorite right now (arguably). Thanks! Hook Em
William Wilkerson (3:35 PM)
If I'm Case, I'm staying put. I think it's his job to lose heading into next season. But he's going to have to improve pretty quickly with Brewer enrolling early. If I'm Ash I might look around a little bit, but in the end I'd stay put. There is too much uncertainty right now.
What incoming freshman do you see starting next year? And what other hs seniors do you see Texas getting?
William Wilkerson (3:38 PM)
I think Brewer, Gray and Jones could all find their way into starting roles next season. I do think Hawkins will start, though he is not a freshman.Defensively, I think Malcom Brown has the best chance to start at some point. Though I do think Peter Jinkens is going to make it tough on coaches to keep him off the field. Don't count out Alex De La Torre either. He is a smart and talented player who will have a semester under his belt before the 2012 season starts.
Jalen Overstreet (DFW)
whats the likelyhood i will not redshirt my first year and possibly start over Connor Brewer
William Wilkerson (3:40 PM)
Jalen, I think you've got an uphill climb to start over Brewer. I think he is more polished at the position right now and will be enrolling early. But I do think the running threat you give this offense will be too much to keep on the shelf for an entire season, especially if Texas' QB struggles materialize like they did this season. I'd stay loose on the sidelines.
Adam Kohler (Austin)
Do we have a shot a DGB and what has to happen for him to choose the horns??
William Wilkerson (3:41 PM)
Texas has a legit shot at DGB. He has only taken one official visit and that was to Texas on Nov. 19.
Do you expect a tight game in the Holiday Bowl?
William Wilkerson (3:42 PM)
I do for three quarters but I think Texas will start to distance itself from the Bears in the fourth behind the fresh and motivated legs of Malcolm Brown and Joe Bergeron. This is a big game for Texas to keep momentum fresh heading into next season. 8-5 looks a lot better than 7-6.
Gary Simon (San Antonio)
DGB or Mario Edwards in burnt orange next year...who you got?
William Wilkerson (3:44 PM)
Gary that's like asking Bevo if he'd rather have Bermuda Grass or St. Augustine Grass to munch on. Texas would love to have both. If I had to chose I think DGB somehow ends up in Austin.
Do you believe that Mario Edwards will actually switch his pledge, or is he just enjoying the recruiting process?
William Wilkerson (3:46 PM)
he's definitely enjoying the process. Wouldn't you as the No. 1 player in the country. You get 5 free trips to the schools of your choice where they treat you like King James in Miami (OK, not to that extent). I do think he is having fun with it, as he should. But I also think he is taking this very seriously. I think he ends up switching his pledge. Wait, is that what I said earlier? Probably not. I can't remember.
Marc (Ft Worth, TX)
how much of a shot does Jalen Overstreet have to play this season and compete for a starting spot?
William Wilkerson (3:48 PM)
I think he is going to find his way onto the field in some capacity. He's extremely talented and is eager to learn and improve under Harsin's guidance.
Is Kenny Vaccaro half of what his brother is? His scout grade and video didn't excite me all that much. I'm not sure about this but I think Texas was the only offer from a BCS school he got. Am I right to be skeptical about this guy??
William Wilkerson (3:51 PM)
Remember Eddie, Kenny's scout grade was a 78 and he was only rated as the No. 42 safety in 2009. I think that he is ahead of where Kevin is at this stage in his career. But there have been a lot of great players that go to major programs without having much of an offer sheet. I think it's fair to be skeptical about him. He's not the biggest corner in the world, but then again neither is Quandre Diggs and we all see how good he is.
Toughest games for next year and will we make a BCS game?
William Wilkerson (3:54 PM)
Toughest games next year:Ole Miss on Sept. 15. Who is going to be the QB heading into The Grove?Oct. 6 against OU for obvious reasons.Oct. 13 at OK State Nov. 3 - Tech (Lubbock is never an easy place to play)Nov. 17 - at Kansas State (Wildcats have owned Texas).
William Wilkerson (3:54 PM)
Alright HornsNation, that's going to conclude this week's chat. We appreciate all of your questions. Now if you will excuse me, I've got some Christmas shopping to do. Happy Holidays.
