Live From MetLife Stadium In East Rutherford
D'Arcy Maine (11:33 AM)
Greetings from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford! It's a gorgeous day outside and the party may be just getting started for you at home but we're on about Hour 4 of the tailgate outside the stadium right now. I walked through the parking lots around 8 this morning and it feels liks spring break. Flip flops, shirtless dudes, BBQs and horrible music that causes middle-aged to publicly embarass themselves and their children. Just your typical January morning in New Jersey.
D'Arcy Maine (11:34 AM)
I'll be chatting for the next hour or so and then switching over to a live blog during the game. So, we should probably get this thing going. Afterall, um... it's the playoffs.

Do think the broncos will beat a banged up steelers team?
D'Arcy Maine (11:38 AM)
As banged up as the Steelers are (Roethlisberger's sprained ankle, Mendenhall out for the season with torn ACL), I stll don't think Tebow can turn water into wine today with that arm of his against a dominant Pittsburgh D. I know Tebow and the Broncos have been a feel-good story the past few months but unfortunately the clock struck midnight about three weeks ago and they're playing like pumpkins. Prepare yourself for seven months of 'Is Tebow the long-term answer at QB in Denver?' talk.

will green bay win it all again
D'Arcy Maine (11:40 AM)
Good question, Matt. The Packers are still the favorites and have proven how good they are all season long. But their one loss proved they are capable of losing and do have weaknesses. I think the Pack will lose to the Saints in the NFC title game. Everything is just clicking for Brees and Co. and they seem to have the momentum at the right time. They're going to be tough to stop.

I just wanna ask about sunday next week schedule
D'Arcy Maine (11:44 AM)
Sure, KC. And what the heck. I'll even throw in Saturday's schedule while we're at it. Saturday: 4:30 PM - Saints at 49ers 8 PM - Broncos or Steelers at Patriots. Sunday: 1 PM: Texans at Ravens 4:30 PM - Giants or Falcons at Packers.

Hey i was wondering does it even matter who wins this game? Neither team is set to win the superbowl. I mean they both have ok quarterbacks but thats not enough this year. There are three record breaking quarterbacks in the playoffs remaining a record breaking defense in playoffs still. And a quarterback who can call in favors to get miracles mid game. Good teams just arn't enough this year. This is only playoff game without a first or a record breaker that is easily known.
D'Arcy Maine (11:46 AM)
One could have said that about the Giants in 2007 before they went on their unexpected Super Bowl run. No team is immune to having a bad day and every team is one sprained ankle away from a complete change of postseason fate. So every game is important in the playoffs. Unless of course you're talking about the Bengals-Texans game yesterday. Now that was a total waste of time.

why isn't ryan clark playing today? injury?
D'Arcy Maine (11:48 AM)
Ryan Clark has a sickle-cell trait which can cause major complications when playing at higher elevations. It's a pretty scary condition and the Steelers are making the right call not letting him play. Not worth the risk.

Is Victor Cruz going to be on Dancing With The Stars??
D'Arcy Maine (11:50 AM)
Apparently he declined the offer, Tommy. Despite the fact he would make more doing the show than he does with his current contract($490K)... What a difference a year makes. I know we all like the Tebow story but I think Victor Cruz is the real fairy tale of the season. Local kid, undrafted out of UMass, relative unknown entering his second season and then becomes the Giants' go-to receiver. Now that's a good story.

what head coach is more on the hot seat if they lose...bobby or tom
D'Arcy Maine (11:56 AM)
I'll go with Door No. 3, Buck. Mike Smith? His lack of postseason success (the nicer way of saying 'epic failure') with Matt Ryan and this team has made this a must-win today I think. The Falcons just haven't lived up to expectations come January and he really needs to prove he knows how to take this team to the next level.

Ryan clark has a sickler trait what? never heard of something like that. could u explain a little more? he cant breathe high altitude air or what?
D'Arcy Maine (12:00 PM)
Sam, I had never heard of it either before Ryan Clark. I'm obviously not a doctor and just know from what I've read on the topic recently. The last time he played in Denver, he nearly died and had to have his gallbladder and spleen removed as a result of playing in the high-altitude. That's how they discovered he had this in the first place. Very, very scary.

I'm in NYC today looking for a good bar (not too crowded) to watch these games? Any suggestions? Ideally that serves wings
D'Arcy Maine (12:01 PM)
I spent a solid 10 hours watching football yesterday at the Blind Pig (14th and 2nd). Great beer selection, good wings, projector screens and a good-sized crowd without being too packed so you have to push and shove (or stand). And, if you stay long enough, they'll just start comping your drinks. Not that I have first-hand knowledge of that or anything.

Do you think Tebow has a chance with his abysmal passing and the Steeler's pass D?
D'Arcy Maine (12:03 PM)
I have a better chance of throwing the winning TD today than Tebow does.
Darren (Lexington, KY) [via mobile]
Is Brent Grimes playing today?
D'Arcy Maine (12:06 PM)
Just got official word a few minutes ago, Darren. Grimes will not play today due to a knee injury.

when was the last time ATL won a playoff game?
D'Arcy Maine (12:07 PM)
Ouch. That just about says it all regarding the Falcons recent playoff history. (2004)
CZ (RI) [via mobile]
Have the giants upped the ante with their food spread for the media since its the playoffs?
D'Arcy Maine (12:09 PM)
Decent breakfast spread today, CZ. I, of course, was the first in line. I may never break a story or be the first to interview a player but it's nice to know I can trump all these dudes to the hash brown line no problem. Little victories.

I've been hearing a buzz about Brady Quinn getting some reps in practice this week. It's inevitible that Tebow will struggle against that Steeler defense. Do you expect Fox to bring in Brady Quinn at any point in this game?
D'Arcy Maine (12:11 PM)
JJ! Nice to have you here, man. There have been a number of reports regarding Brady Quinn getting some reps and that the Broncos will be quick to pull Tebow if he starts to struggle. I wouldn't be surprised if Brady (finally) saw some action today. Probably about three games late.

What two teams would u pick right now to play n the bowl game
D'Arcy Maine (12:13 PM)
Um. Which Bowl game? The Ticket City Bowl? Have to go Cowboys and Titans. Really intriguing matchup with absolutely zero implications, prestige or honor. But I'm more of a San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl girl anyway. Call me a traditionalist.

D'Arcy!!! i know i keep asking, maybe its the adhd, but do u think drew brees will win the mvp over aaron rodgers?
D'Arcy Maine (12:19 PM)
Hey Dillon! Always good to have the top 14-year-old sports fan in the nation in our presence. It's a great question. I think Brees deserves the MVP but Rodgers will win it. Brees shattered Marino's record for passing yards in a season with 5,476 and recorded 46 TDs and a number of other impressive, record-breaking stats as well (most completions, best completion percentage, etc.). In my mind, those numbers and the success of the Saints offense prove he's the worthy choice. However, Rodgers also had a great season and his 14 wins in 15 games and head-to-head win when the Pack faced the Saints should seal the deal for him. Wouldn't be surprised if Rodgers won MVP and Brees won Offensive POY.
Zach (ohio) [via mobile]
No I'm talking the super bowl what teams would u pick to play n it if u had to choose today
D'Arcy Maine (12:20 PM)
Saints-Patriots. Anyone else have a prediction they want to share?
Tarik nj [via mobile]
Bryan New Bedford,MA [via mobile]
Who do you think the Patriots will have a better chance of beating Pittsburgh or Denver?
D'Arcy Maine (12:27 PM)
They would have a better chance of beating the Broncos but, for that very reason, will be playing the Steelers next week. The Patriots lost to the Steeler (25-17) in Week 8 so I would expect that to be a motivator for them but, depending on Pittsburgh's injury status next Saturday, could be a close game between two of the AFC's best teams.
D'Arcy Maine (12:29 PM)
Okay everyone. That does it for me. Thanks for the questions and for following along. I'll be blogging during the game and would love to keep this conversation rolling there as well. Enjoy the games!
predictions [via mobile]
Greenbay vs. patriots. no is good but gb offence is just as good and gb has a better secondary. gonna come down to whoever makes more mistakes. one brees pick and theres the game. and neither team will punt. if we write enough of these things we might be right on one of them
D'Arcy Maine (12:30 PM)
I'll end with that. If you say everything, you're bound to be right.
