NBA Finals Pregame Chat
D'Arcy Maine (7:58 PM)
Greetings from Miami for Game 4! We've got a lot to discuss before tip-off so let's get this thing started. Send in your questions, comments, predictions, etc.!
D'Arcy Maine (7:59 PM)
Feel free to send in your complaints or insults as well. All I ask is that you do a better job than LeBron with his 'he's stupid'. You can do better than that, people...
Kevin F. (PA) [via mobile]
where did this Serge Ibaka vs. LeBron feud come from??
D'Arcy Maine (8:00 PM)
Might as well start with this one then. I'm not sure where it came from Kevin... but I'm happy it's here. Keeps things entertaining. I think it was Chris Bosh who said that when you see the same team so many games in a row, you tend to develop some bad blood. I think he's right, it's inevitable. When you consider how frustrated the Thunder must be right now, it's no wonder that when prompted and pushed in that direction Ibaka said he wasn't impressed with 'Bron on D. I particularly like LeBron's third-grade style retort of 'he's stupid'. Play on the court aside, sounds like he really isn't a great defender...
D'Arcy Maine (8:01 PM)
Should mention that Ibaka says he was misunderstood and that there was a language barrier at play here.
Matt, Syracuse [via mobile]
Is tonight a must win for OKC?
D'Arcy Maine (8:03 PM)
I think so, Matt. Would be very, very difficult to come back from a 3-1 deficit for OKC. The Thunder have been playing well beyond their years all season but very few teams would have that kind of maturity and focus to come back from that. That would also involve them having to stave off elimination on the road. Tough to think they could pull that off.
Long Island [via mobile]
Lets go Thunder! All 102 of my friends are rotting for OKC too!
D'Arcy Maine (8:04 PM)
You have 102 friends? I think you deserve a congratulations just for that feat.
felix, cleveland [via mobile]
how important has battier been for miami?
D'Arcy Maine (8:10 PM)
He's definitely been the difference maker for the Heat, Felix. He's been averaging a staggering 40 minutes per game and provided a much-needed boost on offense with his 73% (11-for-15) rate from behind the three-point line.
D'Arcy Maine (8:11 PM)
He's doing whatever the Heat need him to do on both sides of the ball and has been one of the team's most valuable players in this series. He knows what the team needs him to do and I don't think he'll let them down.
jf345 [via mobile]
i was rolling when you called shane battier sugar shane the other day. lol
D'Arcy Maine (8:13 PM)
Can you really argue with that? Again, he's shooting 73% from beyond the arc during this series. Let that sink in a moment... 73%.
irvin (los angeles) [via mobile]
Why isn't harden playing up to what most people think he can play?
Andy (NE) [via mobile]
What's going on with Harden? He sucks lately.
D'Arcy Maine (8:14 PM)
I blame the beard. His most impressive attribute this Finals has been... his flopping skills. That's really the only nice thing I can say at this point. He's all but disappeared, especially as a shooter. The Heat have rendered him completely ineffective. OKC needs him to step it up if they have any chance of coming back.
Ian C [via mobile]
Where is Lebron James' hairline?
D'Arcy Maine (8:15 PM)
Somewhere with Harden's confidence and Juwan Howard's youth.
Adrian, new york [via mobile]
Westbrook needs to make all his jumpers!!
D'Arcy Maine (8:16 PM)
...Or maybe take a few less jumpers and pass to Durant instead.
Cam. Chicago. [via mobile]
Who has been the MVP of the series so far?
D'Arcy Maine (8:17 PM)
Russell Westbrook. I kid, I kid. Has to be LeBron James. No question in my mind right now.
Joe, ALABAMA [via mobile]
Who needs to step it up for OKC?
D'Arcy Maine (8:19 PM)
Everyone. But if you feel like pointing some fingers, I think the Thunder could use some serious improvement from Serge Ibaka.
D'Arcy Maine (8:21 PM)
He has a combined 12 points in the last two games. For a guy who has provided a major spark for this team in the past, that's somewhat baffling. He needs to bring his A game tonight to give OKC some options and a chance to win.
Scott Brooks [via mobile]
Should I sit Durant for the first half to avoid foul trouble? After that I could bring Westbrook off the bench and start harden
D'Arcy Maine (8:22 PM)
Scott Brooks everybody!
Colin, Richmond [via mobile]
it looked like the thunder showerd their age the other night..
D'Arcy Maine (8:22 PM)
As a female I can tell you there are rarely times where it hurts to look 23. Sunday was an exception to that rule. OKC looked their age and in doing so showed their inexperience and vulnerability. I think Scott Brooks needs to make some adjustments and keep control of his team's emotions tonight.
Gary (Orlando) [via mobile]
What should KD do different tonite?
D'Arcy Maine (8:23 PM)
Not get in foul trouble? Have to wonder if the outcome would have been different if that wasn't a concern for OKC in crunch time.
Cameron (Roseville, CA) [via mobile]
Over under on Durant fouls tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (8:24 PM)
Let's set the early line at 4. Let the record state, I'm taking the over.
D'Arcy Maine (8:26 PM)
Just read this interesting stat, courtesy of ESPN's research team, Durant has 12 fouls in this series. He had 15 in the entire WCF. Six of those 12 have been drawn by LeBron. Do with that information what you will.
James Harden [via mobile]
Should I shave my beard?
D'Arcy Maine (8:27 PM)
The 'Fear The Beard' thing is only effective if you're, you know, giving the opposing team something to fear.
Saze, Atlanta, Georgia [via mobile]
Lol... At your Lebron's hairline joke. Why doesn't he just become the spokesperson for Rogaine? Oh yeah, Go Heat!!
D'Arcy Maine (8:28 PM)
Do you really think LeBron needs another endorsement?
Corey Greenwood, SC [via mobile]
If Miami wins tonight, what percentage would you give them to win the whole series?
D'Arcy Maine (8:30 PM)
I knew I should have paid more attention in my statistics classes in college. Hmmm, 80%? It would definitely be very much in their favor.
LeBron James [via mobile]
Hey, D'Arcy, what's a better come back for Ibaka? That stupid fool
D'Arcy Maine (8:31 PM)
That's still an improvement, LBJ. Granted, usually when I have eight hours to come up with a comeback, it's going to be a little better than that. I always have good comebacks way after the fact. It's a gift really.
Serg (Texas) [via mobile]
If the Heat win, how will a title help shape up people's perception of Lebron? Do you think more people would be willing to give him a pass now considering the way he has played throughout these playoffs?
Tod, greenville [via mobile]
If Miami wins a ring will everyone still hate on lebron
D'Arcy Maine (8:34 PM)
A number of questions on this topic. In sports, winning changes everything. Just ask Kobe Bryant. Or, on the opposite end of the spectrum, Tiger Woods. If the Heat win a title, LeBron will win over the casual fans. He will always have some critics but that comes with the territory.
johnny austin texas [via mobile]
SHAVE THE BEARD!!!!!!
TJ St. Louis [via mobile]
How many 3's does Shane Battier hit tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (8:35 PM)
Great question, TJ. He's been so hot from the arc this series. I'm predicting two. I would be almost omre curious how many attempts he has with his newfound confidence and momentum.
Cam [via mobile]
Do you think Wade goes after KD tonight for calling him too short?
D'Arcy Maine (8:37 PM)
That comment definitely got a little under Wade's skin but the truth is, compared to Durant, he is short. He knows that. But I wouldn't be surprised if he was actively looking for a situtation with KD where he could return the favor tonight so to speak.
D'Arcy Maine (8:37 PM)
Sidenote: I really shouldn't be talking about height. I'm currently looking for a booster seat so I can see over the press table... Seriously.
brad [via mobile]
how do the heat seem? does the lead help their attitude?
D'Arcy Maine (8:39 PM)
Based on their practice and media availability yesterday, it seemed like the Heat were feeling very confident and relaxed. I think there is a major mental edge in having the 2-1 lead, especially combined with having the next two games on your home court. Of course, this team had a 2-1 lead last year and it didn't quite work out the way they wanted but I think that experience actually helps them here. They know a lead against a team this talented can be fleeting if not protected.
damion louisiana [via mobile]
What is lebron doin different this finals than last
D'Arcy Maine (8:41 PM)
Good question, Damion. The talent and work ethic really hasn't changed in my mind. I think he's matured in the sense that he doesn't get in his own head and rebounds quickly after a loss or bad play, stretch, etc. He's confident in himself and it shows. I also think he's found a way to tune out of the critics and that's paying off.
Rodster [via mobile]
Prediction for tonight from Sunny SW Florida :)
D'Arcy Maine (8:42 PM)
Oddly enough, there are thunderstorms in the Miami forecast for the next three days. Foreshadowing? I have no actual idea.
Reggie (Detroit) [via mobile]
what's the tshirt giveaway tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (8:44 PM)
That would be a towel, the size of a face cloth, that reads "White Hot". Because what motivates a team more than a crowd waving face cloths? Don't answer that...
D'Arcy Maine (8:45 PM)
I posted a picture on Twitter (@darcymaine_espn) if you're really that interested to see it. Not really worth the 15 seconds of effort though in my mind.
Cesar [via mobile]
who do you think is a better coach? Scott or Eric..
D'Arcy Maine (8:47 PM)
Very different styles, Cesar. I think they both do a good job with their respective groups. Brooks keeps it positive with his young group and tries to make sure they stay up beat and always think the game is within reach no matter how dire the situation. Spoelstra on the other hand is more hands-off with his older veterans and does a great job with the uneviable task of dealing with a group of egos.
james [via mobile]
Though Westbrook is an All-Star, would OKC be better off without him?
D'Arcy Maine (8:48 PM)
Tom (Baltimore) [via mobile]
What the fudge was wade wearing after sunday's game?
D'Arcy Maine (8:48 PM)
Was it a scarf? A handkerchief? A pocket square? A parachute? The world will never know for sure. But, it's hard to top a man with multi-colored fabric all but sprouting out of his breast pocket. Russell Westbrook must have been fuming with envy.
Good Job, Good Effort Kid [via mobile]
I expect a good job and good effort from LeBron and the Heat tonight, you?
D'Arcy Maine (8:49 PM)
More importantly, is that kid here tonight?
Keith [via mobile]
Maine. What's up? Like the Thunder tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (8:50 PM)
Keith! Glad to have you back with us. I think OKC knows their backs are against the wall and how important a W is. With their first road game of the Finals out of the way, I think they calm down in the second half and steal this game on the road.
wes dog [via mobile]
Thunder will win tonite
D'Arcy Maine (8:51 PM)
At least I know Wes Dog agrees with me.
Ahmed minneapolis [via mobile]
What is lebron?
D'Arcy Maine (8:52 PM)
You might be in the wrong chat if you're asking that.
kwante greensboro nc [via mobile]
Should Kendrick Perkins start tonight?
D'Arcy Maine (8:53 PM)
It's a valid question but Perk is starting tonight regardless of what the rest of us think about it.
Steven (Tampa, FL) [via mobile]
Will Lebron be the MVP by end of the finals?
D'Arcy Maine (8:56 PM)
At this point, I would say yes. But there's still a lot of basketball to go. Or at least Thunder fans hope. We'll see...
ravi [via mobile]
Hi d'arcy - what's your pick for game 4?
D'Arcy Maine (8:58 PM)
D'Arcy Maine (8:58 PM)
That does it for me, gang. Thank you SO much for chatting with me tonight. Enjoy the game!
