AJ, What is like to play in Green Bay?
AJ Hawk (1:26 PM)
Playing for the Packers is definitely something you can feel in the tradition. It's a pretty unique place. I feel pretty lucky to be here.
how did you get involved with Dicks sporting goods project??
AJ Hawk (1:27 PM)
I have a personal tie to it. My grandma is a breast cancer survivor. I've been wearing pink in October since the NFL allowed it. I've partnered up with DICK's. When the NFL partners up with big companies like DICK's it's awesome. It's special to be a part of it.
Eddie Walters (Orlando Florida)
Shifting to college football, how do you feel about your Ohio State buckeyes young defense? Sure could use a sure handed tackler like you out there.
AJ Hawk (1:28 PM)
I definitely still follow all of the Ohio State games. I watch when I can. I feel good about them. They're playing well. Urban Meyer has done a great job of taking control of the team. I expect big things from them. They're fun to watch.
do you get weird looks when big football men are helping raising breast cancer awareness?
AJ Hawk (1:29 PM)
Not as much anymore. When the campaign first started and started wearing wrist bands and cleats and everything. But now everyone's bought into it. The NFL is watched by so many people around the world, it's made a huge impact to breast cancer and hopefully one day find a cure.
Rodney Jeffery (Virginia )
As a Packers fan sitting at 2-3 3rd in division, do you see Sunday nights game in Houston as a make or break game for the season ?
AJ Hawk (1:30 PM)
I think every game is a make or break game for us. It's definitely a very important game. We know we need to find a way to get this in the right direction quickly. You'll get beat if you're not playing at your highest level. It's a huge test, but it's a huge opportunity for us.
Jeff (Fairfax, VA)
What impresses you the most about rookie Nick Perry?
AJ Hawk (1:31 PM)
He's stepped in right from Day 1 and hasn't looked like a rookie at all. He's a really big kid and gives us a big anchor. He's very accountable and does the right things. He's not out there making rookie mistakes. Any defensive player can respect that.
I have always been a AJ Hawk supporter. Alot of fans have not been. I will say though this year you look quicker and faster to me. I heard you lost weight in the offseason, is that true? And why does it seem that you are playing faster this year?
AJ Hawk (1:32 PM)
I am a little bit lighter than I was last year. I just feel very healthy. I feel pretty quick. A couple of people have told me the same thing. I am learning as I go, how to work out in the offseason what's best for my body. I think that will be the case moving forward. I'm learning every day how to work out smarter.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
I know you'd prefer them eligible, but how much are you enjoying the Buckeyes crashing the Big Ten party this season?
AJ Hawk (1:33 PM)
It's really enjoyable to watch. Of course they're on pace to go to a big time bowl game, but they're not eligible. The thing about it is, if they run through the Big Ten and win every game, they'll feel good about their chances for next season. That will only propel them through the season and into next year.
After October, do you think the NFL and others do enough to promote awareness?
AJ Hawk (1:35 PM)
Yeah, I think people are definitely starting to. I think this campaign and places like DICK's Sporting Goods are helping. You can go to DICK's and see all of the gear that we're wearing in games to help support. There are people everywhere behind the scenes doing things for it.
Were you impressed by Andrew Luck Sunday afternoon?
AJ Hawk (1:35 PM)
Yeah, of course. He found a way to beat us. He stepped in. We knew coming in. We didn't take him lightly. He's a great player, very smart. Knows the game. I was impressed seeing him in person and handling himself.
Simple question, are we getting a win in Houston this week?
AJ Hawk (1:36 PM)
We need to do a lot of things to win. Football is not rocket science. We need to go out there and try to get pressure on the QB. Speaking for the defense, if we can go out there early and try to take the momentum away. It's up to us to keep the crowd quiet and keep the momentum on our side.
Ryan Patterson (Madison WI)
AJ- Huge fan of yours. Is there a little extra juice in the locker room this week with the situation you guys are in? I Feel like this is a push all the chips to the middle game. You guys are much too good to be 2-3. Lets see a little Texas BBQ. Go PACK and save this season.
AJ Hawk (1:37 PM)
You can always feel a little different atmosphere in the lockerroom with a primetime or big game. You can feel when it's one of those type of games when the atmosphere is electric. We've played in a lot of those games the last few years.
Wished you were signed by the Bears last year. What's the biggest challenge for you as a NFL LB?
AJ Hawk (1:38 PM)
Woooh...It's hard to narrow it down to just one thing. Staying healthy and staying consistent is one of the things I strive for. 16 regular season games, four preseason and hopefully there are some playoff games in there. There is a lot of football ahead of us. If you can take care of yourself, that puts you in the best spot to help the team win.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Outside of Michigan, which Big Ten team did you hate the most or get most fired up to play against?
AJ Hawk (1:39 PM)
I wouldn't say I hated any of them. Now that I'm out of college, I'm a fan of the whole Big Ten. It's hard to say that I hate another team, but one of my favorite places to play was Camp Randle and Wisconsin. I know the full wrath of their fans. It's fun to be a part of that.
AJ Hawk (1:41 PM)
Thanks for all of the support. The season hasn't started off the way we like, but we can feel your positive support. Go to the Facebook page of DICK's Sporting Goods and download the Endless Ribbon to put on your Facebook page. It's another way to show your support for breast cancer awareness. Hopefully we can find a cure someday for it.
