Radi Nabulsi (11:39 AM)
Just a heads up, I will be filling in for David since he is working on some great stories and was on the chat last week. We like to take turns. Sort of a game-time decision. Hope you are not too disappointed. Anyway, it is Halloween so let's get to the spooky questions.
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
What is the Coldest College Football game that Georgia will play in This season?
Radi Nabulsi (11:41 AM)
The Georgia Tech game. Those teams hate each other so to say their relationship is frosty is an understatement. Funny, the coldest game I have covered in my 19 years of Georgia games was an Ole Miss game around this time of the year. It was horrible and wet.
Do you think Georgia's defense can play at or near the same level they played at against Florida for the rest of the season?
Radi Nabulsi (11:43 AM)
I think the only time you will see that same intensity will possibly be the Georgia Tech game. This team plays up or down to its perceived strength of the opponent it faces. I expect them to throw their helmets on the field once or twice before the end of the season.
Duncan Sligh (Athens)
Even if Georgia loses to Alabama in the SEC Championship, can they still get Sugar?
Radi Nabulsi (11:48 AM)
Got a lot of football before that but I see what you are saying. It should be that way but I can see them dropping to the Capital One bowl too. If Florida wins out I can see them going to New Orleans.
Ryan (San Antonio)
David,What chance is there of the Dawg's having a weak game and possibly losing to Ole Miss this Saturday? I feel like the team could be primed for a letdown... Hope not.
Radi Nabulsi (11:58 AM)
I say there is slight chance. I expect them to have some let down after Florida. I was told that John Jenkins was wearing a boot today but that it was not serious. David Andrews and other guys are banged up.
Radi, odds that RN drops Clemson and Ole Miss and commits to UGA this weekend? Seriously, does UGA have any shot with him?
Radi Nabulsi (12:00 PM)
Just like Georgia's national title hopes, 25-1. So I am saying there is a chance. But think about this: his mom wants him at Ole Miss. He wants to go to Clemson but Ole Miss is growing on him. Maybe UGA is the compromise?
Joseph (Pensacola, FL)
Should the Dawgs win out and Alabama beat LSU this weekend, what kind of chance would the Dawgs have at beating the Tide in the SEC Championship game? What type of game would UGA have to play in order to beat a team like AL?
Radi Nabulsi (12:02 PM)
1. A puncher's chance. Alabama has yet to face a team like Georgia. I though LSU would pummel Georgia but the Dawgs played a good first half.2. Turnover free football. Look at how quickly that same LSU game imploded with the turnovers and mistakes on special teams.
Radi, we will be losing a lot of talent on the denfensive side of the ball next year. What kind of D do you expect UGA to have?
Radi Nabulsi (12:17 PM)
A rebuilding one. The secondary will lose four seniors in Sanders Commings, Branden Smith, Bacarri Rambo and Shawn Williams. Jarvis Jones and Alec Ogletree are expected to leave early. Kwame Geathers could leave too. John Jenkins will graduate as will Cornelius Washington. So basically eight to nine starters gone. But there is some good news for you UGA fans. Jordan Jenkins, Damain Swann, Amarlo Herrera and Josh Dawson are playing really well.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Will the win versus Florida help the Dawgs with Tunsil or other recruits?
Radi Nabulsi (12:21 PM)
Absolutely, but no one game makes or breaks a two year recruitment. Th real effect of the win is that the idea that Mark Richt cannot win the big game has been put to bed. Despite his 6-1 record this year prior to the game, recruits were hearing that Richt was going to be shown the door. Back-to-back trips to Atlanta will help stifle that sort of talk, plus all the stories about his bonuses for getting there and how his new contract pays for performance. Plus the targets saw where they can step in and help Georgia right away.
Keenan (Atlanta, GA)
Did Murray's mediocre performance against the Gators solidify his need to return to Athens next season?
Radi Nabulsi (12:23 PM)
That is the question of the week for me. I mean Murray has been bad in big games and I have to think that hurts him in the eyes of scouts. But those guys work on future potential, not past results. Will coming back make Murray a better QB or will getting drafted and working with a veteran QB in the NFL make him better? No idea. As of this summer I expected this to be his last year. Now I am not so sure
Who is the scariest (BOO!) prospect UGA has coming in next year?
Radi Nabulsi (12:29 PM)
Oh that is easy. Brandon Kublanow. This guy loves to inflict pain. Heck, he even lays out teammates. He is a serial killer in a bulldozer body. Sort of a cross between Jason and Christine. Not sure that he feels pain either. Ok, so I might be a little loopy since I found where my wife hid the Halloween candy but Kublanow is scary. Read some of our stories. He says he wants to "kill kids" on the field.
Clint (Gainesville, GA)
Radi, Loved seeing Gurley with the lion's share of carries last week. Do you see him getting 20+ carries per game from here on out, or will we still see the rotation as before the Fla game?
Radi Nabulsi (12:31 PM)
I expect to see the rotation. The Florida defense forced Georgia to go with a power back like Gurley. I actually expected to see Ken Malcome to get a few hard carries too but I think Gurley had more of a chance to break off a long run than Malcome did.
What's the story on why Hutson Mason stayed? I saw an interview last year that led me to believe he was gone this past summer. If Murray stays...they will finish their careers together, right?
Radi Nabulsi (12:34 PM)
Mason seriously thought about transferring, citing that he and Murray were in essentiually the same class since Murray redshirted as a freshman. But Mason is redshirting this year to get some class separation. If Murray leaves mason would have two years to vie for the starting job.
mark (florida) [via mobile]
Do you think it was a strong performance by the dogs or was florida just that overrated in last weeks game?
Radi Nabulsi (12:38 PM)
I don;t think Florida is overrated at all. That is a great team in need of a passing game. But no team in the country should be able to overcome six turnovers. The fact that the Gators kept is so close is a testament to how hard they fought. And it was a strong performance by the Georgia defense. That was likely the best they have played in three years. The Bulldogs' offense was abysmal and left points all over the field -- thanks to a strong effort by the Gator's defense.
Radi, has the Kolton Houston situation improved/progressed at all? If he were to to be allowed to play, would be have 4 years of eligibility or has any of that been eaten up?
Radi Nabulsi (12:43 PM)
Not to my knowledge. I was told he has lost two years of eligibility since he lost the first one on the first failed substances test and the second one was this year. Not sure if that is right. I do believe you have to play your four years within five years of starting your college career. I will look into it for a clearer answer.
Dre (jacksonville, GEORGIA!!!)
AYE Radi...do you see UGA having anyone else commit before NSD?
Radi Nabulsi (12:44 PM)
I think Alvin Kamara or Toby Johnson could. Plus there could be a surprise in the works...
Radi, can the defense continue the play they showed Saturday, or is Williams going to need to go speak to the media every week?
Radi Nabulsi (12:46 PM)
Answered earlier that I don't think they can. But were I Richt, I would have Arthur Lynch call out the offense. On a side note, anyone else think that Williams' speech to the media had prior approval of the coaches? The truth is out there.
With so many players leaving mainly on D and some at WR, who are some incoming freshman that you believe will receive significant playing time next year? Do you think Matthews or Fluker has a better opportunity to start?
Radi Nabulsi (12:52 PM)
I do think Fluker or Tray Matthews will play early. I also think Paris Bostic might also. Among the other incoming freshmen (assuming all the commits sign with UGA and qualify), I think Tramel Terry, Brandon Kublanow, Reggie Wilkerson, Shaun McGee, Chris Mayes, and Steven Nelson will see early playing time with a number of others contributing as the season progresses and they learn their roles.
What do you think UGA's chances are with JaQuay Williams?
Radi Nabulsi (12:54 PM)
I think they are very good. He told me once that had Georgia offered him earlier he would have been a Bulldog. Things change of course but he is looking around now that Auburn is having a bad year.
What are your thoughts on AJ Turman? Any chance the Dawgs would take him and Kamara or are we only looking for one RB in this class?
Radi Nabulsi (12:55 PM)
I think UGA only takes one. The spots are tight. I wonder if they may be looking at another kicker?
Abdullah (Parts Unknown)
Does Blake Sailors carry around a razor blades to cut his forehead like that? When you going to come have some ribs and chinese food with me again?
Radi Nabulsi (12:58 PM)
No, Sailors cuts himself by having a complete lack of self-preservation. The kid is tough as nails and fast a the wind. Follow him on Twitter for a funny read. He has also given up his jersey number twice so he is selfless as well. Georgia fans should count their lucky stars that he walked-on. He has a scholarship now by the way.
Nid (Augusta, Ga)
Radi, what's been your favorite game to attend since you've been covering the Dawgs?
Radi Nabulsi (1:02 PM)
Not sure if you mean annual game or an individual game. But I like the Florida series since I see a lot of friends when I cover that game. I always blame Georgia's record over the last 22 years on myself since that is when I started going to it. Maybe I am bad luck for UGA. I was not on the sideline this year... As for the best game I have attended, it would be the 1991 Clemson game in Sanford Stadium.
Tony (Richmond, CA)
Will Terry and Lemay have a chance to come in next year and make a AJ Green type impact at the wide receiver position?
Radi Nabulsi (1:04 PM)
Tramel Terry could. He is a special talent. I don't think Uriah LeMay would have that type of impact. Plus there are a lot of receivers that he would have to beat out to get in the rotation.
I have no doubt that Richt approved the speech Williams gave. We dont typically have players speak out, and while we obvoiusly have offield issues from time to time, the staff does a good job about keeping most personalities in house. As far as the offense goes, on Saturday from the stands it looked like great protection from the O-line and that Aaron just kept dancing around with happy feet. Is it just me or does he look like he is regressing a bit to you?
Radi Nabulsi (1:08 PM)
There were no sacks on Saturday so Murray will likely take his offensive line out for ice cream again. I actually think he is maturing and going through his progressions deeper and longer. A lot of his balls are tipped before they are intercepted and there were plenty of dropped balls this season. He missed some open receivers and running backs and he acknowledges that. But keep in mind that he faced a tough secondary in Florida. Against lesser competition, like Kentucky, the guy is brilliant.
Radi, I have the perfect solution to avoid a let down against Ole Miss.....have a Black Out. Any chance that happens?
Radi Nabulsi (1:08 PM)
Over McGarity's dead body.
In light of AU's terrible season, any chance Rueben gets the TAT removed and decommits from AU?
Radi Nabulsi (1:11 PM)
I seriously doubt it. But I am sure Georgia and Alabama would not hesitate to leave bottles of WreckingBalm all over the place when Reuben Foster visits.
What ever happened to richard Samuel?
Radi Nabulsi (1:13 PM)
I have wondered that myself. Especially when Merritt Hall went down with an ankle injury and Quayvon Hicks was sidelined with a concussion.
I am a huge Murray supported Radi, and I do understand that some of his INTs come from bad luck with tipped balls and deflected passes. However, some of what I saw Saturday was a result of poor footwork and decision making. I think he is letting all that talk about his poor record against ranked teams get in his head. Maybe the win over UF will get that monkey off his back, because he will need to be better if we play Alabama in Atlanta.
Radi Nabulsi (1:17 PM)
I can see your point and you are likely correct. Murray tries hard and that causes him to overthrow a lot simply because he is geeked up.
Rob Preseren (Cleveland, Oh)
What happened to the other half of "Gurshall"?
Radi Nabulsi (1:18 PM)
I expect to see a heavy does of Keith Marshall against Ole Miss.
Radi Nabulsi (1:20 PM)
Thanks for stopping by folks. Be sure to stop by The Pound at DawgNation to ask any other questions and to read David's practice notes and Kipp's visitors list.
