Ian Begley (12:00 PM)
Hey guys, Thanks for stopping by to talk about the 6-0 Knicks, without a doubt the biggest surprise in the NBA. The Knicks will try to go 7-0 tonight against Memphis, which would match their best start in franchise history. Plenty to talk about -- let's get started!
Jeff (Wellington )
I was on the edge of my seat last night. Looks like J.R. Smith really did cut down on the Night Life with that clutch 3 pointer. I am loving life as a Knicks fan :)
Ian Begley (12:01 PM)
J.R. Smith has been arguably the Knicks best player. Just night and day when compared to what he brought to the floor last season
Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)
Do you think that the New York Knicks will Trade Amore Stoudimire when he gets back since they are Playing Outsyanding without him?
Ian Begley (12:02 PM)
That's the $100 million question, Chris. I think that they'll give Stoudemire time to prove that he can contribute to this team once he's healthy. But if it doesn't work out, I'm sure they would listen to offers on him
I can't help but think the Knicks success this season can be tied to 3 things. A) Solid & consistent PG play by Felton B) Veteran Leadership provided by Kidd C) Maturity level of JR Smith vs. last year.... what am I missing? This looks like a totally different team!!
Ian Begley (12:03 PM)
I think you hit it on the head, TK. I'd also point out how strong they've been defensively, starting with Carmelo Anthony, who has completely bought in on both sides of the floor
Deven (Buffalo, NY)
What was more impressive: Knicks beating the Spurs with Melo struggling or just beating them in general?
Ian Begley (12:04 PM)
Hey Deven, great question bro. Even though NY won in San Antonio for the first time in 9 tries, I think it's more impressive that they did it while Anthony struggled. One of the biggest takeaways I had from that game was the way Anthony impacted it despite not being able to score. He made huge plays that won't show up in the box score
Do you think STAT will have a problem coming off the bench? Also, now that Kenyon Martin has realized he won't get more than the veterans minimun I think the knicks should waive either James White or Kurt Thomas for him. Do you agree?
Ian Begley (12:07 PM)
Hey Tone, First off, how are things in VA? I'm from NY but went to college down there. Second, I don't think Amare will have a problem coming off of the bench if that's what's asked of him. I think he;s a smart guy and realizes how bad the fallout is if he comes back and goes against the grain by pouting about minutes
Ian Begley (12:07 PM)
As far as Kenyon Martin goes, I honestly don't see where he would get minutes with a healthy Stoudemire, Camby and Wallace. So barring injury, I don't see him signing here
Justin (Peso, NY)
Should Shump get credit for re-inventing the flat top fade???
Ian Begley (12:09 PM)
Hey Justin, I've never heard of Peso, NY. Is that like the Vegas of NY? Anyway, I would credit Shump, but I think Norris Cole had it 1st. Also, Kentucky's Nerlens Noel has a pretty nasty fade. But my hair is thinning, so I should be the last guy commenting on hair styles.
Who has been the most surprising Knick through 6 (terrific) games?
Ian Begley (12:11 PM)
Hey Alex, I'd have to go with Carmelo Anthony, solely because of the way he's bought in on both ends of the floor. I'll go back to last night: he scored just nine points in 40-plus minutes for only the second time in his career. But he made several plays throughout the game that helped the Knicks walk off the floor with a win
Hey Ian-Watching this knicks season so far, i cant believe how great it is that we didnt sign Lin. Between the way felton is playing and how average Lin looks in houston, makes me realize even more how terrible Lins contract was. he airballed a game tying 3 the other night! I havent done that since 7th grade. Is there any talk around the league about Lin? Seems linsanity is 100% gone. Thanks!
Ian Begley (12:12 PM)
Hey Mike, I haven't really poked around league-wide on Lin but I wouldn't judge him too quickly ... I think he and Harden will be a strong, consistent backcourt eventually. It just takes some time to get it together. But I do believe that the Knicks made the right move. Their point guard play is one of the biggest reasons they're 6-0
Ian - do you think Amare will be ok coming off the bench? Inserting him into the starting line-up when/if this team still has it going seems INSANE.
Ian Begley (12:13 PM)
Jason, Woody is a loyal guy, don't be surprised if he keeps Stoudemire in the starting lineup initially
Jeff (Wellington )
My predictions : Knicks 105 Grizzlies 99. Your thoughts?
Ian Begley (12:15 PM)
I don't do score predictions Jeff. I'll leave that to you guys. But, FWIW, the Vegas line has Memphis favored by six
Life long Bulls fan conditioned to hate the knicks, but after last nights win I definately think they're a contender u as high on this team as other fans?
Ian Begley (12:16 PM)
That's big of you to admit, Justin. But MJ would be disappointed! Haha. I think as long as they stay healthy, continue to move the ball and play defense the way they have, they can win plenty of games and finish near the top of the East ... But the health factor is big because they have five guys at 35 or older
John (Staten Island, NY)
How big of an impact do you think Iman Shumpert will have when he returns?
Ian Begley (12:18 PM)
If Shumpert can come back with the athleticism he showed last season, he should make a big impact on the Knicks. He's a tremendous perimeter defender and solid rebounder. The question is, what happens to J.R. Smith and Ronnie Brewer's minutes when Shumpert returns? That'll be interesting to watch.
Abe (Newark, NJ)
Should the Knicks trade Stat? Would anyone take him? Could they insure his contract for another team without taking a salary cap hit? What could we get back for him in that case?
Ian Begley (12:20 PM)
Hey Abe, They can't insure the contract but if Joe Johnson's deal can be moved, I'm convinced any contract can be moved. People have mentioned Amare to LA for Gasol. Other pieces would need to be involved, but it may make sense. It depends on how the Lakers play early on with Gasol.
What lineup do you see Woodson going with against Memphis tonight? The Grizzlies have been a match-up problem in recent seasons.
Ian Begley (12:22 PM)
Hey Alex, I'm interested to see if Woodson goes with a bigger lineup against the Grizzlies front line, which features Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol. Can Carmelo take another pounding playing against a big 4 like Randolph? He's had to bang with DeJuan Blair and Glen "Big Baby" Davis in the Knicks' last two games and that has to have taken its toll. So Woodson could go with a bigger lineup with Carmelo at the 3, Wallace/Camby at the 4 and Kidd coming in off the bench. We'll see.
Are the Knicks more of a complete team without STAT? And do you think their are any real buyers out there for Amare?
Ian Begley (12:24 PM)
Hey Justin, A lot of people talk about the Knicks being better without Stoudemire, but I don't buy that. Last year, in what was one of the worst year's of his career, Stoudemire still averaged 17 and 9. And people are saying there's no way he can help this team? I don't buy it. If the Knicks use him properly (i.e. bring him off the bench), Stoudemire can be a valuable piece for the Knicks
Glen Grunwald for Executive of the Year?? Felton, Kidd, Brewer, Prigioni, and Rasheed are all playing great
Ian Begley (12:25 PM)
It's wayyyyyy early .... If they handed it out after six games, though, Glen would be a lock
lou moses (heart throb of the hood)
does knicks management feel confident they would be able to move stat mitzvahs contact should he not be able to contribute at a level they need from him?
Ian Begley (12:29 PM)
Hey Lou, I don't think they can be 'confident' that they can move him with that type of contract. Tough contract to move, like breaking a ketubah... But, hey, if the Hawks can move Joe Johnson's deal, then anything's possible, no?
Ian Begley (12:30 PM)
